If I choose the barbarian class into the cata, will I be able to use the barb skills with a spear?
Very unlikely because those classes don’t have synergy.
its better if you went pelt hop 2 into cata

isn’t the whole point of cata is to be able to use skills while mounted to get the bonus effects of your companion? well i guess it depends if he’s going doppel or dragoon
I am actually going to go swordsmen2>barb3>cata1>temp
I already have a high level character and I am planning on making a guild, my alt barb is 121 at the moment and my main is 180, I thought it would just be fun to have extra aoe on the barb skills, this character wont be used after I get to temp and have some points spent in guild stuff.
templar usually have peltesta and squire because they dont offer anything at rank 7 to make them worth anything other than a meat bag

The point of being a cata is to be able to use trot and powerful aoe skills.
The companion bonus is slightly noticeable (10% hp/def) unless you shove some silvers on it.
If you companion get fainted you’ll need to wait till it get of the stun penalization to be able to mount again. You can’t use cata skills unmounted, so it’s annoying some times 
Cata 1 has only 1 good damage skills (earth wave) and 1 utility skill (trot). You can use impale for pvp sakes or even pve if you need to get something from a place to another.
Oh I totally forgot about squire! I think I mite do that instead, so I can at least use the character for something haha!
