Quest vs. Grind

I read they want make the quests more special and less “here, go there after that, go to that guy” … I would rather like to play with 2-3 people and party all day than “do that quest and than that” … I have to admit, thats one thing, I would like to have like in ro , but yeah I think thats really more a “like to play and explore the world with friends” thing than a ro thing,

Like I said in my beta-test post let if you guys want try having one char leveling by quests only and anothe grinding

RO had really good story telling. I hope the quests in the ToS are just a compelling. Also, I do hope they stick with a more “like to play and explore the world with friends” routine which you were talking about, that would be awesome.

I hope so too. :turtle:

I don’t mind both. The biggest thing for me is being able to do it with friends/guild/party.

Grinding by yourself sucks!

Killing monsters and uber monsters and boss monster and god-like monsters and gods - with group of friends / random heroes - best way ever for leveling up!

I hope they do a good mix of both, just not too many of these boring quests.
What i also like to see is, that the exp gain will be lowered.
lol max level in beta? wtf is this. would be impossible on ragnarok (i know its not ro, but that’s way too fast, maybe because it’s beta(hope so)) which you need to grind WEEKS at endlevels for some exp’s and i really liked that, you really felt unique.

in my honest opinion, leave the quest to soloist/explorer/adventurist peoples XD

then grinding for those who want to interact with other players/friends ingame… some people (older aged player) cant play like 2-5 hours due to work or school. so i think quest reward should be fair in line to grinding oriented players who can level fast…

also… leveling spots @_@"
this i hate much…why would people want to stay on the same place endlessly grinding/killing monster on one spot?.. why cant they just travel in a group and start hunting mobs on different places? honestly i feel bored staying in one certain place on a map for grinding… or one spot to the next one… its just plain old boring type of grinding… sure maybe the exp reward might be high… but still boring and no adventure whatsoever in it…

dungeon raid gridning/leveling is ok for me too(if the game has one)… @_@

Haha, I get where your coming from but some people like to turn off their brain and just hunt for endless hours whilst listening to music. Strange, but true (I’m one of these zombie players).

Also Questing and Grinding can swap in that case too, some long difficult quests can be very much a group activity, like opening a door to defeat a boss. Whilst grinding can be a very isolating, independent form of levelling. Got a minute? Log on, kill 50 bears, log out.

I think if it’s done right, Solo warriors/adventists and the social justice warriors/guild/party friends can do both questing and grinding. It’s hard to do, and not many games pull it off, but maybe ToS can~

Unfortunately, I’m not what I was like 10 years ago. I no longer have the patience or mindset to do mindless grinding, so I’m going to have to choose quests. At least it makes me feel like I’m getting something done.

Zombie Bro Fist Woop, I listen to those 10 hour gaming music songs, it normally finishes before I’m done xDD

it depend on my mood actually… in my last mmo i need a bunch of item to lvl my crafting so i become zombie mindlessly killing mob in a spot… i dunno how exactly crafting in this game if they got its own lvl i dont mind putting my brain aside to become a zombiieeee :new_moon_with_face:

when i feel taking my time slowly well im doing the quest wether with my friend or soloing it.

i prefer grind, cz quest looks boring to me

hmm so some people wants midless grinding… some people just want quest progression…
for me quest is not boring specially if it gives tons of reward quest(exp or some sort of event that gives cosmetic gears XD) and those quest are one time only(exept ur making an alt)… i dont mind grinding too but in some cases people tend to pick what class they want on a party(hate them, they cant see potentials on weak character and make it work)… so for those choosy players out there expect the unexpected XD

I’m ok with both options. Quests to do lore-hunting and see progressing, and mindless casual grinding with friends and chit chatting.

As long as they’re balanced I’m fine with it

My problem with quests is when they give too much rewards for too little effort. For example : a “kill 20 monster A” quest rewards you 10x amount of the exp you get from killing them normally. It’s basically indirectly force you to do the quests because it’s the only effective way to level.

there are other types of questing and players deserve the rewards… why? cause its one time only… u cant get it anymore (unless theres a daily quest) too much reward is acceptable;quest not repeatable…

its not that simple doing quest actually(like i said. there are different types of quest), u need to do this and that to finish it @_@"

and mindless leveling (mindless grinding is another story)… players do this often… they dont care of the game contents cause they just want to level up fast =_=" and i think this is rude to the creator of the game… but then again, not my business XD

I’m aware that there are many types of quests, that’s why I specify “for too little effort”. I give that simple quest as example because that kind of quest really common in MMORPG nowadays. And it’s provided everywhere, from level 1 to level cap, or almost level cap. And it makes the game so linear because there is only one way to progress effectively. I have no problem with quests that give good rewards for enough effort.

You can’t really call it “mindless” grinding if you have to explore the world to find the best spot/map for your level/build/party-setup to grind. And I don’t think it’s rude to the developer for exploring the ground outside the railroad. Especially after they said that the direction of this game changed from quest-focused to exploration-focused in the last Focused Group Interview.

hmm true but as i said… “its only one time”… getting quest or simply completing simple quest for good amount of exp to the lower levels is much better… later, the hard quest for higher lvl can have a reasonable amount of exp can be executed… now level grinding/dungeon raids will be much prioritize…

grinding form lvl 1-99 is mindless leveling not mindless grinding… and i call it “mindless leveling” because of zombie people who just gind grind grind(well this is’nt actualy bad) without actualy finding good contents of the game… it dosnt point out to the exploration of a certain player for finding good leveling spots, it points out to those who just grind for “level up-ing” there chara without even enjoying the contents made by the game author…

it is rude because the maker of the game put a hard time making the game playable and some people just ignore the content… it is rude! but then again… players preferences =<
