hmm so some people wants midless grinding… some people just want quest progression…
for me quest is not boring specially if it gives tons of reward quest(exp or some sort of event that gives cosmetic gears XD) and those quest are one time only(exept ur making an alt)… i dont mind grinding too but in some cases people tend to pick what class they want on a party(hate them, they cant see potentials on weak character and make it work)… so for those choosy players out there expect the unexpected XD
I’m ok with both options. Quests to do lore-hunting and see progressing, and mindless casual grinding with friends and chit chatting.
As long as they’re balanced I’m fine with it
My problem with quests is when they give too much rewards for too little effort. For example : a “kill 20 monster A” quest rewards you 10x amount of the exp you get from killing them normally. It’s basically indirectly force you to do the quests because it’s the only effective way to level.
there are other types of questing and players deserve the rewards… why? cause its one time only… u cant get it anymore (unless theres a daily quest) too much reward is acceptable;quest not repeatable…
its not that simple doing quest actually(like i said. there are different types of quest), u need to do this and that to finish it @_@"
and mindless leveling (mindless grinding is another story)… players do this often… they dont care of the game contents cause they just want to level up fast =_=" and i think this is rude to the creator of the game… but then again, not my business XD
I’m aware that there are many types of quests, that’s why I specify “for too little effort”. I give that simple quest as example because that kind of quest really common in MMORPG nowadays. And it’s provided everywhere, from level 1 to level cap, or almost level cap. And it makes the game so linear because there is only one way to progress effectively. I have no problem with quests that give good rewards for enough effort.
You can’t really call it “mindless” grinding if you have to explore the world to find the best spot/map for your level/build/party-setup to grind. And I don’t think it’s rude to the developer for exploring the ground outside the railroad. Especially after they said that the direction of this game changed from quest-focused to exploration-focused in the last Focused Group Interview.
hmm true but as i said… “its only one time”… getting quest or simply completing simple quest for good amount of exp to the lower levels is much better… later, the hard quest for higher lvl can have a reasonable amount of exp can be executed… now level grinding/dungeon raids will be much prioritize…
grinding form lvl 1-99 is mindless leveling not mindless grinding… and i call it “mindless leveling” because of zombie people who just gind grind grind(well this is’nt actualy bad) without actualy finding good contents of the game… it dosnt point out to the exploration of a certain player for finding good leveling spots, it points out to those who just grind for “level up-ing” there chara without even enjoying the contents made by the game author…
it is rude because the maker of the game put a hard time making the game playable and some people just ignore the content… it is rude! but then again… players preferences =<
i also like the idea of quest+grinding combo @_@" cause for some people doing quest (to level up) might be boring… and it will become explore-focused game… much better XD
I don’t understand the “rude” part.
As for myself, I’m planning to level up very fast until certain level in order to explore high level dungeons faster, access high level equips faster, with higher chance to access hidden classes, planning my grinding tricks and tips for my friends, etc. I want to be the first and the fastest one to access certain things in the game, guiding my friends and guildmates towards the best way, the most effective way to play. I can also access rare companions or rare high level items and sell them for a high price while other players are still struggling to reach my current level. Boring? No, in fact, this is the proof that I’m enjoying this game.
thats your playing style >_<" thats why i said “players preferences”
i personaly think quest based leveling is better (i know its not faster but fun for soloist) and grinding for further leveling =V…
for me fast leveling is boring due to the fact that u cant enjoy ur current level.
taking it slow is my playing style… i mean, why need the rush? sure u can get high level gears with high lvl chara and access high level dungeon… then what? end game? sit in the town chit chat with friends? wait for new contents? make another alt? im not saying fast levling is bad in anyways… “thats just not for me” @_@"
player defers from other player… i have my playing style and u have yours… XD
I like grinding better, especially with a small group.
(In general, not limited to ToS because I obviously didn’t play it yet haha)
I’m a grind type of guy.
But I’m an efficient grinder. If quests at certain intervals are better or have a required reward, then I’ll quest, but I’d prefer grinding.
I like reaching towards end game a.s.a.p because I feel like beginning and mid level gaming is just something to be replaced at towards the end. And I enjoy the journey there but I enjoy the end as well.
ToS has so many possibilities, so reaching end game isn’t the end for me. I feel like this is a game where if you want to be as optimal as possible, eventually you’ll need a few alts.
An example would be:
You can have different crafting alts afk in town farming you money from players that want your crafted goods.
Or you can make a highly geared and we know player into an offline helper which also helps you make money as you play on another character.
That way your always funded with little to no management in the long run.
I think I’ve gotten a little off topic
All in all, I grind for life, and when I’ve met my goals, I’ll take it back and see what else there is to see, perhaps on different characters, that’s when my questing begins.
Why do I need the rush has been explained by this
Basically I want to get everything that other players can’t still get and make profit out of it.
XD yeap… cant beat that… but im sure i can get them without rushing =P patience is my sword wahaha
And of course, rushing levels will also depend on my teammates as my character build won’t be that effective in grinding alone. Hopefully, I can get some hardcore partners to support each other and reach the top spot. So, anyone?
Btw I’ve been wondering about how many quests are actually available in the game. The game itself can reach more than hundreds of levels, so it’ll be a huge challenge to complete all quests.
Grinding for me is better, Not because i like grinding but people will tend to “Wanna Party?” if you grind on the same area and if its a popular Leveling area players will tend to make party recruitment in the place and start leveling,…Good Examples before was Ragnarok GH/Orc Dungeon/Payon Cave (no one set that up, the community mostly did that by itself which makes it more awesome)
As For Questing Leveling, People will just Quest solo since finding someone who’s on the same quest as you are is hard, and having someone doing the quest makes you slow (if he/she is slow or laggy) so people tend to play Solo if its Quest Oriented,…
Just look at Aion/WoW/Tera and some other games,… its all about Quest Quest Quest hit a certain level do Dungeon, back to Quest Quest Quest, hit Max Level, Do Dungeon Grind Gears
that’s why i think most people love the old school RO, it gives you NOTHING!!! it just teach you the Basic movement/shortcuts and thats it, while games this day, OOOO hello there level 1 player i have a quest for you to reach lvl 2, then next NPC lvl 3, next npc lvl 4, next npc lvl 5 and so on
@More : i played other games with friend and i can’t even party with them just cause its more efficient doing the Solo quest to level,…
Well I enjoy to quest with friends, and grind when I’m alone at 3am
Eh, sure. I might fall off pretty soon though xD. Depends on my schedule. In any case, I’m building towards accessing the content at a lower level than usual, so there’s that.

It’s good to have both choice and variety. However, I would definitely rather have grinding replacing quests like “Kill X, Collect Y” that are the MMO staple. If you’re going to give us quests, i’d rather have less of them of it means they can be made more meaningful.
Quest vs Grind = You have to do both in order level up effectively.
Solo vs Group = Depends on your class/stats/skills/level/spot/map. I found solo more efficient on archer class and also tried a cleric but i think he needs a mate/group to be more effecient because the lack of dmg.
Quests weren’t used the level up in icbt at all. You must do them though as after some story chapters you get 3 extra stats
