I am now a Sw3-Barb1. I have 4 class ranks left and idk what to build. I was thinking Sw3-Barb2-Dop1-Cor1-Shinobi. or Dop2 instead of Cor1. Or maybe Barb3. Any suggestions?
if you want to pvp w/ unmounted swordsman, its nice to get 1 circle in corsair. You already got yourself Barb1 so you have to stick w/ using 2hand swords. might as well go the dop route to 3 imo. Pretty unusual build though
I’m torn between Pouncing, Cyclone or Hook/Hexen. Since I maxed out Restrain I thought Pouncing and Cyclone might be good. Also I prefer a one handed with a dagger over a two handed. Yeah it’s pretty unusual. I don’t like to play common builds even though it’s stronger. But hey, as long as I enjoy playing my character it’s fine for me
hook+cyclone while dual wielding is possible
Hello. So you have Sw3-Barb1, don’t want to reroll and want to PvP, correct? Putting aside a question of where the hell you will find enemies for PvP on the dead servers, here’s what I would recommend:
1) Sw3-Barb2-Cor2-Murm1
This is a “Hook and Jump” build. It’s main ability in PvP is to mass-paralyze people while still being able to gapclose and do dmg to them.
You would use an offhand dagger. You will tie up 3 enemies from long distance for 14 sec (cd 25 sec) with Iron Hook, then jump close to them with Frenzied Slash (or just use it to jump and stun and THEN hook) without breaking hook’s effect. Once up close, your character will probably have the highest chance to stun enemies that’s possible to achieve with swordies: 60% from Restrain and FOUR stun-on-demand skills - Headbutt, again Frenzied Slash, Helm Chopper, Seism (this one also has neat range which is super-important in PvP in this game). Your damage is rather crappy though (only Hexen Dropper - it’s really good, but not enough and doesn’t get multiplied at all), but you and your friends will have 14 sec to play with helpless foes and THEN you will start to stun-lock, so that’s still very viable.
This build can be changed in several ways by taking Cor1 instead, variants include Barb3 (pouncing, very effective against Bloodletting) and Shinobi (invisibility to place hooks/stuns effectively and so on). Cor1 will only have 9 sec of Hook though, which seems like forever for some MOBA, but in ToS, that’s really not much unless you work together as a team. Good thing about those alternatives is that they will allow to use shield instead of an offhand, which will allow you to use Scutum Hit and Evade Thrust (cuz you lost Hexen Dropper), but I can’t comment on effectiveness of those skills in this setup.
2) Sw3-Barb3-Drag2
This is a very simple build. It has no jump or hook, but it can just throw an immobilizing spear from the other side of the screen, hit several people HARD with it, and then, granted that you did not die from damage reflection, you can just approach your target (if it’s still alive) and finish it off. This build has large and LONG (super-important in PvP) hitboxes on a lot of damage skills (Seism, all Dragoon skills) and a lot of CC (Restrain 60%, Helm Chopper, Seism, Pouncing). Finally, it doubles any Melee damage with Serpentine and Slash damage (Dragon Soar, Pouncing) as well as a crit rate with Cleave, so it will have much more dmg than the previous build (which will be really good. At the end of the day, all will depend on WHEN you throw your Dethrones (because reflect can one-shot you) and if you land them. This build can also use a shield freely, which is important in PvP.
This build can be changed to specialize more in spears and damage:
- Sw3-Barb1-Hop2-Drag2 = no pouncing, no seism, but very significant AoE Ratio bonus for PvE, Cleave+Finestra = 150 crit rate, Long Stride knocks down through Safety Wall and allows some gapclosing, have Spear Lunge to boost Pierce damage in addition to Cleave and Serpentine, so you will use short combos to deal dmg such as Cleave-Serpentine-DragonSoar, SpearLunge-Serpentine-Dragontooth/Stabbing and so on. this build will probably inflict very significant damage to bosses
PS. Hope that helps you stay alive in a dead game. Cheers.
PS2. Yeah, and i’d say Pouncing is better PvP-wise than Cyclone, but having both never hurts, I guess.
Wow thanks for the detailed reply. So you’re suggestions completely throw out Doppel out of the equation here. Does this mean Pouncing > Cyclone? I’m thinking maybe Sw3-Barb2-Cor1-Dop1-Shin.
Also is there any way I can reset my rank. I’m starting to think that Sw3 wasn’t such a good idea.
About Sw3-Barb2-Cor1-Dop1-Shin1…
This build is decent. You will not have a jump (which is super important for hook chars), which means you will HAVE to hook from point-blank (from invis) all the time, because if not - you will do no damage at all, as, sadly, most of your damage is just Cleave->Cyclone (I imagine it will often be enough, but also has huge cd) + Shinobi shenanigans (which take a lot of time to use, while you only have 9 seconds of hook).
While you are only rank4-5, it’s still not too late to reroll, later ranks will take much more time, really. Here are much better suggestions then before:
Sw2-Barb3-Cor2-Murm1
Sw2-Barb3-Dop1-Drag2
Sw2-Hop2-Cor2-Drag2
Sw3-Pelt1-Cor1-Fencer3
Sw3-Cata3-Drag2
Sw2-Hop2-Cata3-Lancer1
Sw3-Cata3-Cor1-Lancer1
-
for those builds that can use shield (always use it if you can use skills with it), Pelt1 can also be added for Swashbuckling’s 25% bonus HP, but do note you’ll have to immediately receive those 25% as healing from someone / potion… and, generally, you can modify any of those builds in countless ways, just pick what you think will work in the mix
-
Sw2-Pelt1-Rod3-Shin1-Murm1 as an experimental variant, don’t know much about Rodels, but I think some of their CC ignores bloodletting, which is important in PvP, correct me if I’m wrong. additionally, you get Slithering (magic immunity and etc) and strike damage multiplier from Cassis Crista + High Kick + Shooting Star and other combos.
To create/choose a decent PvP swordie build, you need to be aware of the challenges PvP swordies face.
As a swordie, you will ALMOST NEVER land any hits in melee on an enemy that is not CCd, because:
- it’s just too easy to move away from you as any class, your hitboxes are small and your range is melee
- it’s hard for you to move close and not get CCd/killed yourself
- you can always run into a positioning bug or freeze and those have the most dramatic effect on swordies
As a logical outcome, your build will be the more viable in PvP the more things from the list below it contains:
- ranged skills (Hook, Dethrone, Pistol Shot)
- CC that ignores Bloodletting is the best CC (Hook, Pouncing, Rush, probably some Rodelero skills - don’t know much about those, also not sure if Dethrone ignores it), or at least any CC (Restrain is one of the best as works with any other skill and even procs on misses)
- skills to damage/CC enemies while chasing (Pouncing, Cyclone, Rush)
- if your build has Iron Hook, you should really consider adding skills that allow moving without breaking hook (Frenzied Slash, Balestra Fente, Long Stride, Steed Charge, Cartar Stroke - listed from best to worst in that regard)
- skills with big or long hitboxes to actually land hits/CC at enemies (Pistol Shot, Seism, Cartar Stroke, all Dragoon skills, again Pouncing and Cyclone)
- invisibility (Shinobi is good because it can just hook/stun you in the face out of nowhere)
- if you have Iron Hook or other strong/long CC to keep your enemy in place, you should probably have combo-skills to use before your main damage-dealers to amplify damage (Spear Lunge, Cleave, Serpentine, High Kick, Preparation, etc).
- movement speed and fast-animation gapclosers (Trot, Frenzied Slash, Balestra Fente)
- skills to take char out of Safety Wall (Long Stride, don’t know about others but they definitely exist)
So, there are a lot of variants, really. So choose.
Buildmaking in this game is better than the actual game. Sigh. What a shame.
True. Too bad it takes so much time to actually build one. I only have one other character which is also kind of an unusual build. Ar1-Ran3-Sc1-Rog3
I think I’m gonna be a Sw3-Bar2-Dop2-Shin or Sw3-Bar3-Dop1-Shin. Still don’t know which one though. Should’ve never taken Sw3 so that I can be Sw2-Bar3-Dop2-Shin
Sw3-Bar3-Dop1-Shin looks better, you definitely don’t need Dop2, first rank is already suicidal enough and wearing a shield would save you, while Dop2 requires 2H swrd. Pouncing is too good to pass up, seeing you have no other high-level CC - you will need it for strong opening.
Still, consider your options in PvP dmg-wise: you don’t have any burst, your best and only real dmg is Cleave->Pouncing/Cyclone, with both skills having a cooldown of forever and being channeled skills with damage over time. Chances are, your Cyclone will get interrupted and you will get CCd before you do much. Pouncing is a bit better because you can combo your enemy to death without allowing them to stand up, but that’s unreliable as well.
PS. I’d still bring Cor1 back, because well… Hook is better than pouncing, especially wih a shinobi. Just hook point-blank from invis and rape, no complications. So your previous build was better. Rotation would be invis->hook->cleave->cyclone. If ppl don’t break your hook, you will just paralyze 1-3 persons and kill at least one with a Cyclone before hook’s 9 sec expire.
Sw3-Bar2-Dop2-Shin is only for Cyclone to be stronger. I’m not gonna take the other skills. But I guess thats a waste. This means I have a choice of going Bar3 of Cor1. Still, to be honest with you idk how Shinobi’s invis work. If it’s like Cloaking of Scout then I’ll definitely take Cor1.
How does cloaking of scout work?
Just press the skill and youre invis
Shinobi’s invisibility is quite different than scout’s cloaking. It doesn’t last as long, but you’ll stay invisible even if you hit an enemy. However it still disappears early if you jump. There’s also some bugs associated with it, mainly with gungho. Apparently it only happens sometimes, but enemies are able to see you if you have gungho active while being invisible.
Alright how about this. Sw3-Bar3-Dop2 or Sw3-Bar2-Dop3?
Sw3>Barb1>Cor1>Dop3 or Sw2>Barb3>Dop3 would be better. You really want the hard-hitting Dop skills for PVP and 1 of them has surprisingly really good range. Pouncing is good but very situational, whereas Iron Hook is almost always useful.
Ah â– â– â– â– . Im already Bar2 now. I guess im gonna get Dop3 then
