PVE 2H Highlander 3 -> Doppel 2

Greetings,

I am fairly new to this game and would like your opinions and tips regarding my character which is currently at level 100

2H Doppel

My main points with this build would be:

Rank 4 Highlander 3
Rank 5 Barbarian 1
Rank 6 and 7 Doppel

Rank 4 Highlander 3

Since I don’t find myself blocking often, will leaving Cross Guard to 3 be enough or rather, should I even put points in Cross Guard? Take note that this is primarily a 2H build so I’m squishy as ■■■■. Relying only on CON and DEX for survivability.

Since most bosses use magic damage, I figured increasing Crown to level 5-7 for the duration. I have experienced using this skill in instance dungeons and it helps the team mitigate some damage especially if we don’t have any healers. (Crown is currently level 5)

I’m thinking of increasing Moulinet’s level by taking away from Crown and Wagon Wheel but looking at Doppel skills, I’m planning on dismissing this skill later and replacing it with Redel.

I’m thinking Wagon Wheel may be useful for utility so I mistakenly placed a point there and I would like to avoid resetting if possible.


Just before I proceed with my dilemma of choosing a rank 5 class. Here are my stats at level 100

60 STR
15 CON
100 DEX

since I have now reached my target for 100 DEX i’m now investing stats between STR and CON.

How much stats should I put into CON?

I’m actually having doubts of picking Barbarian because the utility that Swordsman 2 and Corsair 1 provides are tempting.

For instance, Swordsman 2 offers Restrain. And if I understood the skill correctly, this means that, for the duration of the buff, all my attacks have a chance of stunning enemies. Does this include ALL multi hit skills or is this only limited to auto attacks?

I may not be able to use Dust Devil since this is a 2H sword focus but Corsair still offers Jolly Roger, Iron Hook, and Keel Hauling.

What should I take for my Rank 5?


Rank 6 and 7 Doppel

I’m thinking of just leaving Zornhau at level 1 since it will only be used to apply the SHOCK status effect (increasing its levels doesn’t seem to increase its duration) and use the points to invest in skills that deal multiple damage such as Ridel and Zucken. Is this a good idea?

How high should I level up Deeds of Valor and Double Pay Earn? Also, for the sake of asking, should I get Punish and Mordschlag?

Highlander:
Vertical Slash sucks, put those points in moulinet/crown/cross guard instead.
1/5 is fine for vertical slash

Wait and see if we get swordsman balance patches from ktos as mentioned in their Q&A, barb will give you a nice 50% more slash damage if we get it.

For PVE is it advisable to level Crown beyond 5?

Deeds is likely the strongest buff effect of the swordie tree, max it. Double pay earn is good at least 2 or 3 pts, pop it on just before a boss or glowing mob dies and let the party kill it for double reward and exp. punish requires a prone? target, and thus has lots of situations where you can’t even use it, like on a boss.

with ktos buffs, i like the barb pick. but without I and many ppl like peltasta. 1 aoe aggro of mobs is strong for aoe situations even if you plan on not taking any hits from them so parties almost require pelt 1, 2 if you ever need to tank you can with the aggro boost and defensive skills (and smart or no use of deeds buff). con of this: pelt circle damage is almost nonexistent so if you know 100% for sure you wont need swashbuckling or know 100% for sure barb ktos buffs come here, go barb.

my own personal opinion? I don’t like highlander, no reason but I just don’t. pelt/barb2-3 bb :stuck_out_tongue:

It can reduce the damage of some bosses, so you can put leftover points there. I personally prefer moulinet though, you’ll rarely use it on doppel c2, but it’s still a nice skill to have. (You’ll use it even less if we get 0cd skyliner)

for Deeds to work effectively, do I need to invest in CON? The way I understand it, the more hits I take, the more it hurts like hell. I’m not against suicidal skills like these but do I need to somehow invest more in survivability or just put it all in STR (kill them before they kill me?)

10/10 Deeds is good in parties, if you like to solo too much don’t do it unless you’re smacking weak monsters

yes and no. its not as bad as a debuff defensively as people see it at first. even I was fooled at first, it does not increase your damage taken by a %. rather, it decreases your defense stat, and how defense works in this game is that it reduces damage per hit taken by a fixed amount.

At lvl 194 I have almost 300something defense and hard hitting regular physical mobs hit me for 500ish, so once I get my doppel 1 at r7 without figuring in increase of stats by then (so this is hypothetical) I would be taking like 150ish more damage due to 1/2 defense for 650ish. this can put a hurt on you yes, but it only requires slightly more con investment, better gearing and group buffs account for more though. Just find an amount of HP that works for you, I’m thinking 25-30k hp for tanky/dps mix myself at lvl 280.

(please correct me if I’m wrong, I haven’t read the entire forums and my character isn’t doppel yet xD)

When you lose 500 physical defense you take 2k more damage per hit.

How did you come to that conclusion?
500 less pdef means 500 more damage.

if an attack has a large modifier, that multiplies the defense by the same modifier. but don’t monsters hit for a 100% modifier aka 1 def = 1 less damage taken? the only thing off the top of my head that would make 500 def = 2000 damage is meteor’s 400% baseline modifier, or 3000 damage 600% modifier when quickcasted.

Def only scales linearly, until a point.

Barbarian 1, hum…Helm Chopper and Cleave are decent C1 skill but at C2 you have Warcry, Frenzy and Seism
i would say C2 is what make Barbarian so amazing, going Barbarian without going C2 feel a little bit…

I’ve experienced first hand some monsters hitting me with strike type physical damage. I could tell since I was wearing a plate armor. I’ll provide screenshots if ever I’ll remember which monster it was.

ya, that would make it a 150% multiplier though, either before or after accounting for defense. if before, than losing 500 defense would mean taking 750 more.
