Putting aside my Swordsman fears

I’ve been studying up on these boards for a couple of days, contemplating whether or not i want to proceed or not. I always go Swordsman because i like a in-your-face kind of playstyle. And apparently Swordsmen are not tanky , nor are they menacing. But that wont stop me. im going to carry on PROBABLY with a Swordsman c2 > Barb c2 > Cor c2 > Shinobi build or…well i dont know for Dragoon yet.

I’m not quite sure what i want because i kinda wanna be able to also kick butt in pvp , and pve. i understand as a DPS swordsman i’ll be spending most of my time alone as higher level groups wont want me. that’s fine. i think i’ll try and work around it , and see what this game has to offer.

if i stick around maybe i can post helpful guides to other swordsmen out there on the fence of playing it or not.

im already at cor c2. and soloing has already started to get hard. You also get bullied, a lot. Duels wont be your thing. archers and wiz 20-30 levels lower than you will laugh at your face when you lose.

well hopefully that changes one day. i know games tend to reward you if you go archer or mage right off the bat, but ehh.

Actually there is one more thing im considering. if Shinobi or Dragoon arent all that the other option is to stick it out as a Dopple. build im considering would be Swords > Highlander C1 (for the 2-hand mastery and crit?) > Barb c3 > Dopplle C2

As far as the last build is good, you wont get into parties late game cause of lack of peltasta. Im building a pelta - barb 3- doppel - shinobi and so far Ive been kicking ass left and right. Mostly of people 50+levels higher. Ill be shinobi most likely this saturday and Im taking it mostly for the pvp factor.

does Peita actually give any benefits behinds taunt? i wouldnt mind going it over highlander if it did

Nope, you need a shield to use Swash Buckling. Right now you need a rank of Peltasta if you don’t wnat to be dead weight later on.

i dont know how it works though. i wanted to go 2h sword for damage output. kinda seems silly if im forced to play a certain way anyway, despite the number of classes. oh well least there’s soloing, or maybe theres other swordsmen out there.

You can swap* weapons mid-fight, so you’re going to have a 2H sword for DPS and a 1H sword + Shield for when you have to tank(dungeons/grind parties)

hmm…and you dont believe the damage bonus you’d get from highlander is worth the loss of shield?

Don’t take Highlander C1, the crit attack attribute* is bait for noobs(no offense), Highlander only shines at C2 or C3 with Skyliner, Crosscut and Skull Swing while C1 is pretty terrible, Catarstroke seems good at first but the charging time is absurd at high levels to the point you’d deal more damage by auto-attacking instead.

You -NEED- a shield late game otherwise the you’re going to be ignored by all late game parties because you won’t be able to deal as much damage as a Wizard/Archer and you won’t be able to tank because you don’t have Peltasta C1 so you’re pretty much worthless.

maybe i oughta just pick fencer or something then. not liking the sound of being “useless” without a shield. and its not like i can realistically solo later on if it gets to the point you need others.

maybe there’s a chance they’ll balance it so melee outdmg the ranged later on? or at the very least can output their kind of numbers.

I don’t think you’re understanding what i’m saying, you’re only going to be using a shield when you’re in the role of a tank, and to do so in this game you need Peltasta C1 to be effective.

If your party already has a tank then you don’t need to do it(unless they ask you to).

Let me be more clear, you’re only equiping a shield when you’re tanking, when you’re not tanking you can equip your main sword, unequip the shield and do your thing.

Well you should tank if you’re the only Swordsman in your team…

Please people… just give up on PvP lol. You guys are setting yourself up to fail as soon as you think your swordsman will do anything in PvP at all. There’s a reason why 90% of the top PvP classes in Korea are Wizards and Clerics. There’s only 1 swordsman class on the top pvp list.

that one swordsman seems to be ranked #2. maybe its a matter of quality over quantity

and just to make certain there’s no way to transfer over premium items w.o use of a token is there? well i hope Exp tomes arent valuable
