PSA: Monsters Adjust Attack Patterns

I just found out tonight that monsters in this game actually adjust their attack patterns for different situations.

I was farming in Sunset Flag Forest today.

For those familiar with the zone, it has many transitions points and it looks like your pet can get stuck there.

I didn’t realize it at first and was fighting little lizard guys who CONSTANTLY would cast sleep on you when you attacked. Extremely annoying as melee.

After a little while I realized my pet was missing so I summoned him.

Instantly, instead of casting sleep they would cast a Magnetic Field spell that did nothing (just sucked us in together). It made my kill speed million times faster.

This made me wonder about some other monsters I was grinding and maybe it would be better to put the pet away? Ones with nasty AoE spells.

This game actually has some pretty clever AI tricks, but they’re often poorly adjusted (i.e monster A casts heal, monster B is flying, goes to heal tile when low in HP but can’t heal from magic circles since it’s flying type).
