Please remove the flag option

Moderation should be done by mods, not the community.
This type of content control only works if people know what they’re doing.
An example of this are the last 2 days:

A majority of people who are flagging every post from people who are pro-founder early access when rage topics are still up.

Please get rid of the flag option and hire some mods.

This forum completely lacks mods. So with flagging people were originally able to get rid of the inappropriate posts.

However, it has been abused recently. I agree that they should hire mods because General Discussion is just a mess right now. But I disagree with removing flags.

Flagged?)
I love communism and moderation on comunity isn’t a bad thing.

While I do feel that flags can be of some use, they require mods that see flagged thread posts / threads more easily and able to react to them / remove flag if it’s not needed there. It doesn’t feel like it is working without mods tho as most of the people just flag people who the disagree with or for fun instead of flagging for breaking forum rules.

Flagging was working fine 95% of the time before the huge spike in active users that happened recently.

There was 1 incident that happened a while back where someone was posting gay porn on the forums. Had we not had flags available and someone decided to log onto the ToS forums at work or any other public area… that could have been very bad for them. Luckily we did have flags though so those posts were quickly hidden until a staff member could log in to ban the user.

Removing flags is only a good option if we have 24/7 moderators, until that time flags should stay. They help keep the forums family-friendly-ish and SFW-ish.

and this is why I always say trusting the player base to moderate themselves in regard to ANYTHING, is a terrible idea. Anonymity makes even adults act like children.

IMC are handling this situation very poorly, aren’t they? How many members of staff they have? Yet complete silence and forum children are free to falseflag everything to extent that their announcements get locked. This is so silly, so unprofessional.

Honestly, I would have expected them to remove all the negative posts.

But what I think they’re doing is honoring freedom of speech, since they themselves aren’t English and are trying to land this game in regions they haven’t had experience with.

But yeah, poorly.

Pretty much the flag motives recently.

I think what this forum really needs is a counter flag system…

and for the closing to only count the main post flags…

if X# of likes > Y# of flag = thread stay open and TC post visible…

if X# of likes < Y# of flag = hide opening post and close thread

you already have a limit of likes and flags + you can only do it once per post on a thread…

Apparently the voting announcement got flagged and no one can vote on it anymore. Abuse has gotten out of hand. You gotta remove this system even if only temporarily or up the flag amount.

This whole forum system makes it hard to moderate. Need to switch to IPB or phpBB if we want better moderation.

Why would they need to change licenses or switch to a free php based forum? This has real time updating and whatnot.

Just disable the flagging or only enable it for certain people, or remove it and get active mods.

Please clarify the whatnot because real-time updating is about all Discourse (this forum software) has going for it since both IPB and phpBB have been ported to mobile phones already. If Discourse makes things hard for moderators to keep track of things (which the staff have been admitting it does), then that makes it hard to relay suggestions to the developers as well. It would not surprise me if this forum software’s chaotic system is the reason why player suggestions and proposals often get overlooked, never mind making it to the developers.

I don’t see how real-time updating is all that great anyhow since there’s not many people on the forums that are uptight about keeping track of every forum thread by the second. At least IPB and phpBB has pagination so people can actually track down certain posts easier; here we’re stuck scrolling forever to read through stuff and it certainly sucks for trying to read through threads that are 200+ posts long. All Discourse seems to do is make it easier for the moderators to ignore most things on the forums since it’s already a pain to look through threads as it is.
