Please fine-tune the language filter!

I understand you want to keep out some strong language here and there, but from what I’ve looked into, this issue goes back a long time. When players still can’t ask what class someone is without it censoring to “cl***”, there’s something wrong with how you created your filter.

First of all, this is a Teen-rated game. Not being able to say “ass” in general is a bit silly. Second of all, chat filtering should be optional. We’re all using the internet, the majority of us can handle some passing (sorry, p***ing) language in random day-to-day conversation.

After reading through some of the concerns from the past, it seems as though no one has listened, or even attempted to take a look at how ridiculous this censoring filter is.

Just let us say “class”! There are 80+ of 'em in the game and we can’t even call by them by their actual name. >_>

wait, it only censores that part of the word for you?

for me, if I write a long careful explanatory sentence with the word class in it, what I get is:

I was hoping there would be some changes in iTOS, but…

2 hours into the game, I had that issue where a friend is not sure where I got a quest from and waiting for me to tell him, meanwhile I’m trying to figure out what word is even triggering the filter!
(It was an NPC name, Settler IvANUS.)

Why on earth is this necessary?

I understand when there is technical issues and lag and all that stuff, but this is something that was unnecessarily put into the game, is 100% pointless and pretty much exclusively hinders social interactions.

How is it pointless?

Well, firstly, it doesn’t stop me from swearing as much as I like (because guess what, I can use the same workaround for writing ASS as I had to figure out in order to write CLASS. Using a dot or hyphen in the middle of the word, Clas-s).

And secondly, when I do run into “**” after I just wrote a long thought provoking sentence, what it does is MAKE ME SWEAR IN REAL LIFE.

Exactly! It’s a totally broken filter that will sometimes occasionally maybe block something.

However, the ONLY time I’ve ever seen the filter in effect, it’s only blocked words that are not bad words. It’s always been “class” or “pass” or “title”, etc. Or in your case, it’ll block an entire thing with simply **.

Clearly the people in this game aren’t trying to swear up a storm, they’re just trying to communicate basic things people bring up in MMOs.

I feel violated every time I get censored with that **. Having nightmares about it.

It’s aggravating to say the least. Censoring oning the offending word would be nicer. Even better would be the option to disable the filter, some of us are old enough to not really need it.

Yeah, like I said, it’s a teen-rated MMO, not Club Penguin. When we can’t even say “sucks”, there’s something wrong, considering that’s not even a bad word by any definition.

Srsly can’t believe they haven’t touched this since cbt. The chat filter is so ■■■■■■■ annoying.

Communicating in a game is important and when the chat filter thinks a single word of yours is dirty while you type out a long, thoughtful message about your class, watching your whole message turn into a ** is just… it’s unacceptable.

My usual gaming alias is Axxis and I couldn’t even use that in this game because “axx” is too close to ass. This profanity filter ■■■■ is out of control

No, I could type it out in-game and it wasn’t censored, while f**k for example still was.

Weird, I’ll have to check if it doesn’t work anymore o.o

That was on Fedimian btw.

On Klaipeda it’s still censored. I tried messaging my brother asking about his class and it kept deleting all my messages and replacing them with the **. :frowning:

This. Look over here IMC. Get one guy to fix this stupid chat filter for babies when obviously the whole internet curses and doesn’t give a damn about half the ■■■■ people say anyway. :unamused:

They don’t censor “What the hell” in-game, which is (oh my god) PG-rated! But they’ll censor other totally PG things because I forgot this game was made for toddlers.
