Please allow wizards to melee with sword and hammers

Pleaseeeee, make it so Wizards can so physical melee attacks with swords and hammers - it will make it a much more diverse class and open a lot more builds!

Not to throw salt or be harsh but it is the most silly request i ever saw, i mean, its a magic caster not a melee char, if you want melee go cleric or swordsman, that’s why they are there, and wizard can do melee attack with a staff, there’s a secondary attack button, not sure on keyboard but on xbox controller is Y.

Why are they even allowed to use swords then, and why does wizard blade actually exist (it even mention wizards in the flavor text as if they wanted it to be a thing). Archer are limited to bows and crossbow so why aren’t wiz limited to staff and rods?
It could even result in a strange support build featuring chrono/thauma/linker but because you’re limited to daggers it’s kinda ruined imo.

It almost feels like the idea was there but got scrapped.

I agree with OP. For now, our best option for battle mage or anything like it is to use a staff and press secondary attack to swing it. I’m working on a battle mage right now and things are slow.

My guess is that they may introduce swords with magic stats later on, i can be wrong tho, try and see if the melee damage with the staff increase if you add STR/DEX instead of INT.

pyro-linker-thauma-thauma/chrono-chrono is a working physical attack build. It just has the small problem that pyro and thaum scale really well together, and will always be better than using your autoattack. Chronomancer is really good with dex builds though, dat+25% crit rate and +100 evasion~

Daggers aren’t even that much worse than swords, white daggers are ~20% worse than swords, and are faster. If there were more variety there might not be a problem at all. You’d just do the reverse of the meta; get a really strong base damage dagger, and some gimmicky mainhand weapon to buff it. Like Toy hammer.

Then why this class is even allowed to equip swords maces and hammers and has 2 friggin class evolutions that focus on buffs to physical damage over magic?

I bet that if Wizards could melee attack with Maces they’d be op.

Did you know frozen enemies take bonus damage from strike attacks?
Did you know Lethargy has an attribute that doubles strike damage on affected targets?

There would some serious shenanigans, I tell you what.

Read my previous post for your answer, tho its just my guess on that one.
