Please add a dedicated dash button

The CBT3 video states that a dash function is being added, and that it’s activated by double-tapping a direction. I know I’m not the only one who absolutely loathes this control method. It’s imprecise and tedious to use often.

Phantasy Star Online 2 gives you several options regarding this: It has a dedicated dash button, and also lets you choose how long the double-tap delay should be, or allow you to disable the double-tap dash entirely, so that it can only be done with the dedicated button.

Ideally, this is what I want for ToS. Options are never a bad thing.

Double tap is intuitive and a pretty common control mechanic.

If you really don’t like it you can probably macro it.

You’re missing the point. I want an option to disable double-tap dashing entirely. It’s the sort of thing that is regularly activated unintentionally, especially in action games where you need to quickly and precisely move around.

Why even argue against the addition of more options in the first place? There is zero reason not to provide players the choice of the control scheme they prefer, as they have done by adding mouse controls already.

How do you know there isn’t already one?

It’s best to wait and see it in action, and seeing if there is in fact a hot key for it in the settings before suggesting it.

Personally, I’m used to double tapping, but I’m sure many players will prefer a hotkey.

I don’t, but the video specifically mentioned double-tapping. I just wanted to get it out there that there are people who would prefer an alternative. If there’s already an alternative: Great! No harm done, everyone is happy. If there isn’t one yet: Now they know it’s something to consider.

It’s still CBT, I’m sure TOS devs might consider this.

Dash looks pretty cool. Definitly a nice addition to swordie gameplay!

Pretty sure there will be. Most controls for these kind of action MMOs are completely customizable.

IF theres none right now, they might add in the future, yes i know what you mean, on GW2 double tap on is fatal in some jump puzzles that i had to disable it, i got used to the V key for dodge, now i can do any jump puzzle without fear of dying from dodge lol.

Wasnt there also a class ability or some skill that let you hold up your shield to block things? With a togglable block stance and dash ability, swordie is looking like a really fun class to play!

(Is that shield thing i mentioned, a thing? I forget where i saw it…)

Untill i personaly play the game i cant get myself in a hype, well my only “hype” is the wish to play the game when its ready.

Most of our questions will be answered when WE start playing.

i think its not such a bad idea using double tap to dash… just like the old fighting games (like tekken, street fighters, MvsC, guilty gear, etc etc). and it adds competitiveness in the fighting aspect of the game… making dash 1 push just make the game look dull or somthing (though im not saying dedicated button for dash is a bad). well in any case… well just have to wait for the games improvement

Yeah, but this isnt a fighting game that have limited keys to play, its a MMO, i think the dash is good, we need to dodge/run from attacks, but whats the point if we are moving across a trap field (poison or fire if theres any or there will be any in the future) and double tap by mistake and fall on the wrong place? This happens alot on GW2 and im glad they added an option to turn off and use a key to dodge instead, in fact i find better control using a key instead of double tap.

oh yeah @_@" that’ll be a problem… hmm maybe ctrl+r would change form run to walk… then can disable double tapping to dash… that way u can carefully walk from traps. hmm traps like those lost its value if u can easily dodge them. strong vote for double taps! XD. also, control adaptation of the game can prevent those mistakes (u can easily determine a beginer to a pro).

the idea is not only limited in fighting games(fighting games( can be fast phase) dosnt have limited keys, it has only basic controls, composing different combinations for skills/attacks/block and dodge) it can be applied to MMOs like ToS (action like 3D MMO that looks like a 2.5D MMO).

then again, this is complicated matter =3="
i guess 1 button pressing is better for you, i prefer it to be double tap

Yeah but MMOs have the lag element added on top of this. So IMO it’s better to give as many options to the player so that he can adapt his play style to the response he gets from the server.

agreed =3

options that players can pick to match their playing style and preference
people who wants dash to be dedicated to one button and people who wants double tapping. they can just go to game settings>controls and change what they want

Here’s a simple solution. If you don’t want double-tap dash, don’t play swordie  Cause apparently they’re the only class getting dash.

Yeah, to give what greeks and troyans want just add an option for a key and eveyone is happy lol, i know what you mean, and yeah, at least on GW2 i preffer use a key for dodge, too much jumping on the game and mostly of them can lead you do dead.

I like the idea. I played the ICBT and double-tap really bother me. The button can be R3 on joystick like others games and on keyboard can be “shift”. They are “intuitive too”
