Pet Control Options

I have a few suggestions on how to make pets less frustrating to use.

Pet Stances:

  • Agresssive - Attacks any monsters in range. (How pets act currently)
  • Defensive - Attacks any monsters that attack you.
  • Passive - Does not attack monsters at all.

One of the major reasons why I think these changes are necessary is because of how pets interact with classes that can mount them. When I throw Gu-Pot on my Wugu2/SR2, I will dismount my pet and he will run away from me to attack nearby monsters, who will than be unmountable while attacking and unmountable while stunned. Essentially, I can’t mount back up for a good 10 seconds and this is time is lengthened if I am not spamming my mount keybind. This prevents me from having a reliable rotation and puts me at danger by forcing me to go into melee range, which can be deadly if it’s a huge pack of mobs.

When I switch channels, I sometimes dismount and my pet will run off to attack monsters, creating an unnecessary hassle.

Pets also grab aggro from mobs when you are in a lower level area where the mobs would normally not become aggressive towards you. It’s nothing dangerous, but the combat sounds creatures make when you are trying to search for something on the internet is annoying.

In dungeons, it makes things more difficult for everyone else when your pet is running around into the middle of packs of mobs. Sometimes you just want to have your pet out so they can get exp.

Sometimes I’ll go into lower level areas to help a friend out and my pet will start killing his mobs. I have to dismiss the pet to stop this and then forget to bring him back when I’m leveling again.

These simple stance options should relieve a lot of annoyances and fix a few detrimental problems for mount classes. At the very least, adding Passive and Aggressive would help tremendously.
