Peltasta/Roldero into powerful DPS

Swordsman>Peltasta>Barbarian>Barbarian>Roldero>Doppel>Doppel/Fencer

Circle 1 in Peltasta gives plenty of utility thanks to block and Umbo Blow. Circle 2 Swordsman has little benefits imo and the buffs do not scale. Highlander is viable but Peltasta is simply better because of the synergy with Roldero at higher levels. We go Barbarian because we’ll be using swords not spears. The core here is Roldero because it provides you gap closers that both Doppelsoeldner and Fencer lacks.

As a result, you have a relatively tanky character that can dish out high dps to single targets (good pvp/bossing) but still possess some aoe for grinding (cleave/cyclone/etc).

Which skill gives rodeleiro a gapcloser?

Shield charge i guess it’s the only one i see, but i don’t know what it really do in game and i prefer 2 circle of peltasta than one of Rodeleiro and one of peltasta.

To me it isnt a gapcloser. Its you holding a shield charging foward no matter what.
gapcloser is something how close a gap, like instantly.

Well if you wanna nitpick over that, I can’t really say anything.

I was using the term more as allowing the Swordsman to approach without dying or to ‘close the gap’. Any non Cata swordies in PvP all end up dying as they attempt to dash to their target. I’ve seen Peltasta’s do okay but what happens is they get ignored and then die after their team is wiped.

@final_sonja I don’t get Peltasta c2 because I’m not adding Guardian in the first place and Shield Lob would be giving up the shield I need to use with Rodelero. Whereas if I get Barbarian c2, I can get the aspd buff which stacks with doppel’s aspd buff for high dps.

non Cata swordies in PvP all end up dying as they attempt to dash to their target.

@jochris can prove to you non Cata can out match other classes in pvp

Barbarian’s frenzy is a damage buff, not aspd. Nonetheless, it is very good.

o.o indeed it is, I read wrongly.

Are you talking about barbarian pre-nerf?

Regardless, it’s sorta a general consensus non cata swordies are weak in pvp. Too many matchups work against them. Unless you’re going against 5 archers with no traps or all glass cannon wizs. Or can you enlighten me how would you win a match against the cc’s and ranged nukes possessed by other classes.

no not me

@jochris said in my threads on ‘fencer should get gap closer’ say non cata can do well in pvp. those dead non cata are just low level swordies

I totally get the draw to Cata for PVP. Frankly, both are good, but it depends on what your goals are. Remember to take every build idea with a grain of salt, because more classes/balances are coming!

there nothing really to complain about cata its the best class there is and viable for both pvp and pve.

very fast movespeed

large bursty AoE

isolate impaled people in pvp.

Going to hijack your post here for a bit since people are talking about cata…

Anyone has tried or has any thoughts on peltasta>hoplite>cata3?

Yep. I think some people here are just over-reacting after seeing some footage from YouTube. Have you guys even tried the PvP yourselves and found out that Swordmen are really that strideless? Because I have tried PvP myself and found that Swordmen (who are within the same level bracket with the enemies) are doing okay if they know what they are doing.

Here, go to 3:20. Even though he is 25 level higher, he can find a way to “close the gap”. You can find other examples by your self. Please do not let your judgment to be overshadowed by Cataphract gameplay because (1) they were a popular class so you might see a lot of them in the vids, (2) their gameplay is what they are intended to do: to move fast and to destroy enemies’ positioning, (3) if you compare their damage with pure DPS classes, they’ll lose; if you compare their defense with Rodelero or Peltasta, they’ll lose. Thus, every class has its own uniqueness, if you share Cataphract’s mobility to other classes, Cataphracts will lose their meaning.

As to the build which is proposed in this thread, I have no comment to make, I came here because I was mentioned. Cheers.

?

Everyone understands pure DPS classes are jokes in PvP. Not just in this game but in almost any MMO with a balanced PvP environment. Why do you think some people endure the grind to Wiz C3 despite it having a much lower damage output than other builds? You already pointed out why Cata’s did well in PvP; high movement, CC and the tankiness equivalent to most swordy builds that don’t go Peltasta/Rodelero.

Most of DPS swordies are great for PvE, back in icbt1 when I played, they were the ones that power levelled the fastest. I’m not saying they’re horrible builds. But it’s a fact they stink at PvP. There’s no reason to ever pick a DPS swordy that struggles to get up close when you can get a DPS Archer. And even then those only work with a proper team lineup.

PvP isn’t solely about damage. It’s a mix between mobility, cc AND damage.

And ironically, you’re contradicting yourself. You just said to not let your judgement be affected by the vids. And you’re using them as a basis of how non-cata’s can do well in PvP? I’m talking purely from paper theory, the best swordies at the moment for PvP are Rodelero and Cata. The other viable ones are support swordies (corsair/squire). Not every class has to be good at PvP and PvE (which is how it should be) and that’s clearly the case in ToS.

That is not a general consensus.

Your build goes through 7 ranks, when 6 are available.

It also seems like your unaware of the class advancement change.

Indeed. I don’t understand what you are trying to imply @Sango. You are just contradicting what I am contradicting without adding anything to support your argument. My notion is still the same, non-cata swordmen can be good at pvp. I didn’t say being pure DPS can win you a PvP, I only said taking a pure DPS class gave more damage (do not forget that TOS is based on the combination of classes).

The example which I gave was a swordman who used CC, but still, who is non-cata. I showed a vid on youtube because it is your only source, you make your own general consensus from vids, whilst I had an experience playing a local CBT which had PvP system. It’s like, “here you go, in your observation, you missed something”. You cannot base your judgment on paper theory because you cannot measure movement speed, animation speed, etc.

Plus, your references are from the ones which are pre-standardized and before a lot of rebalancing being done by IMC.

Thus, don’t worry, non-cata PvP-er swordies, you can still do well if you know how to build your classes.
