Party Instance Random Matchmaking (Organization)

Hello, Saviors!

I wanted to talk about an idea I have for the random party matchmaking system that we have going on now. Whether IMC intended for challenge by randomizing or not, it is certainly not balanced in a correct way. There are parties made that contain people with builds that are only suitable for roles they had expected to put to use in party play, but rather they are thrown into the party with a wild guess of what classes they should expect. From my experience, chances are you won’t get the support you want always and will be pulling your own weight if your party members aren’t exactly damage-built or the whole team is strictly damage and no hp or def. This establishes longer runs than expected and for those seeking to put their tomes to use will have them ate up in just that one run if matched with the wrong classes.

The point of my thread is the proposal I have for this case. Now, I remembered my days playing FFXIV and remembered how the instance matchmaking system is set-up. There are specific roles in a party that everyone knows by now: Tank, Healer, DPS and Support is viable. Now, we could use a similar layout that has specific classes that can fall under these categories and fill up the spaces in the party as long as they have that specific class in their build, for example:

Tank/Puller (reserved for swordsman) 1:
Peltasta
Hoplite
Rodelero
Cataphract

Healer (reserved for clerics) 1:
Priest (could go support)
Krivis (could go support/dps)
Paladin
Plague Doctor

DPS & CC (every class) 2 or 3:

-Swordsman
Highlander
Barbarian
Fencer
Doppelsoeldner
Dragoon
Shinobi

-Cleric
Bokor
Sadhu
Monk
Druid

-Archer
Ranger
Quarrel Shooter
Sapper
Rogue
Falconer
Schwarzer Reiter
Cannoneer
Musketeer

-Wizard
Pyromancer
Cryomancer
Psychokino
Elementalist
Warlock
Featherfoot

Support (Green symboled classes or Yellow symboled classes) 1 or 2:
Thaumaturge
Linker
Chronomancer
Corsair
Hunter
Wugushi
Scout
Fletcher
Pardoner
Kabbalist
Alchemist
Necromancer
Sorcerer
Squire
Oracle
Dievdirbys

Depending on the category of the class in your build, it opens up a choice for you to pick what role you would like to pursue. If you had Peltasta at c2 but picked up a DPS class like Fencer later on, you could have the choice to take on the role of Tank/Puller or DPS. There should be a menu for the random matchmaking system where you could choose the role you want, but other roles will be grayed out because you aren’t compatible for it. It’s a pretty neat idea I’d say, but I wanted to set motion for the future of our instanced dungeons/ missions. It is a gamble unless you have friends that will press the random slot at the same time with you. So, if you may, consider this @Staff_Julie @STAFF_John @STAFF_Ethan and thank you for reading. If anyone has any added information they would like to add or any criticism on the class roles or places, please share.

While I do like the idea of having FFXIV duty finder. I feel as though the class system here is just simply too robust to even attempt to shoehorn classes into archetypal roles such as tank dps ECT.

For instance my Krivis C2 is literally the worst healer poasible, limited utility and mostly damaged functioned but because of the way the game works it’s easy to heal most situations with skills like safety zone and the such. I think it should just make sure to put 1 cleric in a group (at minimum )and at least 1 plate armor user.

Why did you put Cryo in dps?

[EDIT] ; you actually said Cyro.

As a C3 Cryo I can definitely say I’m crowd control and not dps. While i do ok damage I’m easily outclassed by people who built true dps classes. On topic though i would definitely like a more robust random dungeon queue that let us select roles.

I would so select healer every single time, just to get easy parties.

Yes, that’s a big problem with this structure because not every cleric class is strictly just a healer, but can be dps-wise. If possible, just one cleric is needed in a party for healing and I’m not sure about the plate, cuz many classes that aren’t swordsman tend to run with different armor by their build-type.

I always end up misspelling it. Excuse me. xD
I could have made it CC and DPS, but decided that would see the response of the repliers that could shape up this idea better.

@Scyphoza I’ve changed that up. I had just simply labeled CC with DPS.
