Pardoner spell shop scam

  • Reason for report : Selling spell for “10k” but “announcing” for “1k”;

  • Server : [SA] Silute

  • Team Name : Teller-Morrow

  • Location : Tenet Garden

  • Approximate date / time (EDT) : 10AM

  • Evidence

  • I wasn’t going to report it until I saw a post on a Facebook group. A guy was warning other players about it, and believe you or not, people were defending the pardoner, as if the person who falls for this trick is at fault for not paying enough attention. I don’t even know what to say about it, to think that people actually agree with this kind of behavior is just unacceptable for me.
    ** I don’t think you guys are going to do something about it unless you find it yourself and I really am not sure if it was on purpose, nonetheless it is a problematic behavior imho so here it is.

Pretty much this, i am not defending who is doing this, but whoever gonna buy have also to pay attention at the prices.

This is also true to real life.

@Nirimetus ninja’d

is not a defense it’s the truth…

it might be a scumbag move on part of the seller, but the one buying is as guilty if not more…

if this was illegal there wouldn’t be infomercials or small letters on contracts and such…

the world is full of crabby tactics to fool people that let themselves be fooled :unamused:

Obviously we should all pay attention 'cause the pardoner could also open the shopping with those prices by mistake, but I’ll never go as far as saying that the one who does it on purpose is right, 'cause it is not.
@DrRM I know those things also happen on real life but the fact that it happens doesn’t mean it is right.

the fact that is isn’t right doesn’t mean the buyer is out of fault

Okey.
I know I can’t win this kind of argument specially because I get really upset/sad/tired.

People always blame the victim for not being smarter or wiser instead of blaming the one who is causing the whole situation, I just can’t understand why but you know, that is just how people is.

They don’t say: “guys, you shouldn’t be tricking people”;
They say: “you were stupid for falling for it, you should have paid attention”.

And they lived happily ever after?

If life was that easy, we wouldn’t had wars, drug lords, hunger, theft and all kind of crap in the world.

I’m really surprised how much I’ve been seeing people just say the buyer needs to pay better attention, and that’s that. Yes, absolutely one should pay attention to the actual price (edit: to clarify, yes, they share fault. they are making a mistake, and the seller is intentionally doing wrong). Does this happen in real life, yes! However it will have asterisks or other things denoting fine print, clauses and such. Pardoner/Squire shops can’t have fine print and clauses. I think it is absolutely reasonable to label someone as scamming + give a warning to them, when advertising a 1k price and consistently having 10k across the board.

People can accidentally type an extra zero, but to make all prices that is very unlikely. Again, I am seeing this a lot more lately and it just surprises me the amount of people who chastise the victims more than the actual seller. I’m not necessarily calling anyone out here, but I do go on other forums frequently and see this.

“you shouldn’t be tricking people and you are stupid for falling for it, you should have paid attention” ~Dr:R.M 2016 :sunglasses:

Everyone agrees on that, I think :stuck_out_tongue: The OP is moreso pointing out that a lot of people don’t seem to find it a big deal (relatively a big deal; not comparing to drug wars and world hunger) that someone bothers to do this. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling out and reporting someone intentionally trying to trick people out of money. I agree with you! I don’t think the argument of the OP is talking about that so much, though. And they are right, I see people shoot down others for reporting pardoners/squires doing this, even if they weren’t scammed.

the problem is that most people that make that kind of thread put all the blame on the seller instead of sharing it :expressionless:

if you stay one sided you are sure ass hell karma will make sure to give you plenty of the other side and that’s why they get all the “it was your fault” posts…

:yin_yang:

Thank you. That is how it should be.
Without the ‘you are stupid’ would be even better, 'cause the one who falls for it is already thinking it of himself, probably.

To an extent, yes, but it unfortunately overshadows the fact that it seems to be getting way more common that people are doing this with their shops. People will always try to scam, but I think just because you get whiners and people who don’t pay enough attention (which you will always have as well) crying over it should take away from the fact that someone should be called out for intentionally trying to trick/take advantage of people. I’ve never done it myself, but people with good judgement that pay attention can make the mistake. Which someone like that will own up to it. But people should still take note of the ones attempting to trick people.

I’m sorry for making the posts so long! :stuck_out_tongue:

On opening this thread I wasn’t planning on defending a possible future buyer.

I was upset because someone tried to give people a heads up about this kind of situation and everyone was criticising the guy who posted it, he wasn’t even reporting the pardoner as I did.

From now on I’ll keep reporting it because:

  1. I believe it is a problematic behavior; and
  2. As the buyer is penalized for not paying attention, so should be the seller for being a scammer. *Just like in real life if justice worked. :wink:

In real life you can give back the item you have purchased if you are not agree with your purchase. In the real life if you scam you will pay a fine. In the real life you can’t shoot a fireball.

I’m not defending the scammer and I wish he is punished.

EDIT: ALSO in real life you can report a store that sells an item with a price and then charges another one.

Try that on a street seller to see if he will give you back.
Same situation a Pardoner is a street seller.

I am not defending the scammer, but if every single time someone don’t pay attention and start to cry out for his own mistakes we gonna have an ocean, and a really salty one.

It is definitely not right to scam people.
Say the market price is 1k.
But what if the pardoner, decides to go 10k instead? Or even 100k instead?
Yes, it’s overpriced, whether intentionally or accidentally. But maybe the pardoner just want to test his luck? He doesn’t have good intention to sell it near the market price but it’s his choice ultimately.
We can say he is trying to target careless players but what can IMC do? Ban him for selling items at overpriced rate?
I think it’s good to point this person out so the community can be more aware. But reporting the scammer won’t get any resolution done.

You see, the problem is that he announced it for 1k and is selling for 10k.
If he announced 10k or didn’t announce anything, it wouldn’t be a problem for me.
He can sell the buff for as much as he thinks it is worth.
