Paladin Build Compendium and FAQ [Updated 29/04/2016]

I don’t believe defense can go below 0, but enemies late game have 200-300+ defense.

That plus the smite damage increase I read in another patch note might actually provide my (somewhat failed?) paladin a little bit of much needed DPS. Hm.

He’s currently Cleric > Priest > Priest > Paladin > Paladin and I had more or less written it off as a total support char going Cleric 2, Priest 2, Paladin 3 but now adding in some Monk circles just became interesting again.

This, I assume, while adding DPS would get him absolutely no role in a party though. What are the options from here? I’d highly appreciate some input as I can only theorycraft.

Paladin 2, Monk 2 could make solo play bearable at the cost of being pretty much useless in a party?

Paladin 3, Monk 1 would offer barrier and a little extra dps… but with only 5 heal tiles I wonder whether anyone would prefer that in his team over an actual healer?

Priest c3 > Paladin c3 is more or less a support character. Since you don’t have enough circles in dps classes making conviction mostly useless as it doesn’t work very well as a party debuff (unless people start equipping all the best elemental gear).

However as I’ve proposed in the FAQ, Chaplain should synergies really well at rank 8 because you’ll have 5 hits per auto attack, every hit adding an additional bonus from conviction debuff.

Let’s say you also have an ignition as well, to inflict burn effect (5% chance). You’ll inflict burn on average, every 20 hits. (4 auto attacks)

Burn will also apply additional damage if you have inflicted the conviction debuff!

I think the great thing about Paladin is that it doesn’t matter how you choose to stat your character. You can go for an INT, STR, SPR, some DEX, and Full-CON if you want to.

What appeals to people (and I am sure you play it for this reason too), is the idea and playstyles that you can achieve with this class.

Without a clear idea how you statted your character, I can’t help much so a little more information including your build would help.

I honestly think the monk route is only significant if you picked dievdirby instead of Priest. And the reason why is that every point you invest in DEX (for monstrance) is better invested in flat damage increase (STR) because when you have around 300 STR, every additional point you invest is 2 or 3 STR.

As a Cleric you are also looking to have a decent amount of CON due to your low hp (for a melee character). DEX should be for Accuracy in PvP only. Not PvE since you can equip a decent gloves (plate/leather).

Also as a Dievdirby you have a skill that deals Pierce damage and also has a %+damage attribute giving you a very good single-target burst skill. Carve is also a very good skill to use after Conviction because each hit will apply the elemental damage bonus.

The truth is that I was “young and impressionable”… when seeing this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuWQKm6-Xpg

So I ended up with 60 STR 60 CON 127 DEX currently. That is not too important though, as I still have an unclaimed stat reset potion. The char is level 140 right now, still wears Cafrisun and tries to make the best out of +Elemental Attack.

What if I reset stats, go full STR with a little CON and do Priest 3, Pala 2, Chaplain? I didn’t research that circle yet so I’d highly appreciate if you could provide some insights regarding the 5 hits per auto attack. This would work with the current setup pretty well, I assume. It’s really too bad that the additional hits can’t crit - something I found out the hard way =/

You’d be better off just going priest 3 paladin 3 tbh. That is by no means a bad build. The fact that it’s more of a full support build is actually very much in your favor, because your stat allocations is much less important than a full DPS. And honestly, high DEX isn’t the worst at all. I wouldn’t use a stat reset potion on that.

You can do 2 or 3 things moving forward with your stats. You can pump points into SPR for mass heal + stone skin. You can continue pumping DEX and have a more PvP oriented build. You can switch to pumping STR . I would either do the SPR thing if you want to be more supportive, or do the STR thing if you just want some more damage. And you don’t have to worry about any of your stats going to waste, because you’re gonna continue to do physical damage.

Thank you very much for your insights, they are highly appreciated.

I’m trying to understand why cleric 1 > priest 3 would be superior to cleric 2 > priest 2 but lack the details.

The “Stone Skin” skill I do not understand for a lack of description/video. Do you need to have a shield equipped for it to work? How much SPR would be required for it to be effective in the lvl 200+ range?

Thank you.

1 hit from your normal attack
1 hit from cafrisun or other equip
1 hit from sacrament
1 hit from aspergillum
1 hit from last rites

For a total of 5 hits.

You don’t need a shield for the effect to work, but having an Aias should technically multiply the bonus by 2, because it has a block rate multiplier of 2. I haven’t used an Aias before so I can’t confirm, would have to ask someone.

80 SPR is plenty, 60 SPR minimum though. The reason you go Priest really is for circle 3, as circles 1 and 2 only offer very minimal support and won’t hold up against other support builds (ones that include max Stone Skin, Revive and Mass Heal).

Stone Skin is your party-wide buff that gives you almost 100% physical invulnerability.

However if you go for SPR Natural resistance, statting high SPR, you can put a few less points in Stone Skin for other skills. But you should have a valid reason for having high resist, such as for PvP and to scale with Mass Heal and/or Aspergillum at Rank 8, if you intend to go Chaplain later for example and have no cc immunity skills like Bloodletting. A skill that recently got nerfed in Battle League on the korean TOS. Likely will follow here too.

Can you add druid info? I’m interesting build paladin + druid for Shepherd.

That was incredibly helpful - thank you!

What’s the nerf that bloodletting got?

Plague Doctor

  • Healing Factor
    • Duration now lasts a fixed duration of 27 seconds.
    • Skill Cooldown will increase by 20 Seconds.
  • Blood Letting
    • Duration becomes 15s + 2 per level.
    • Skill Cooldown will increase by 20 Seconds.

obviously it’s still good, just not op.

edit: these changes are for Battle League only. Not PvE.

@web_nervepress could you include an explanation for your monk-pally build?
The 30% damage buff sounds really strong, but is it actually worth skipping plage doctor/kabbalist for?

  • How long does the double punch debuff last? Edit: It lasts 4 seconds
  • Are the extra hits from conviction + smite effected by the debuff?
  • How much physical defense on average do higher level mobs have / how much of a DPS gain is hand knife’s armor break?
  • In comparison, how much dps does incineration bring to a phys pally?

I can’t really talk about Hand Knife too much without feeling inexperienced. But I would say 100~200 damage based on the defense of high level mobs, but I’d say it’s more for PvP than PvE. After applying the CC, the skill animation, the low base damage. The time it takes to string on a combo after that is kind of silly.

You may as well just buff yourself, or debuff the enemy with conviction for that added bonus. A 70% chance still puts it in the unreliable category followed by a long cool down.

I recently answered some questions about the Monk build which I’ve now included in the FAQ where the STR builds are located. I also answered your question about Plague Doctor in that same section.

Is that helpful? :stuck_out_tongue:

Also I wouldn’t say you will be missing out on Kabbalist or Plague Doctor. They are Rank 7, as well as having the 2 best healing skills in the game however Kabalist has zero synergy with Paladin at all. That’s why I’ve only included the alternate Plague Doctor builds as viable.

The choice is yours to make, but I would say that with 10/11 heal tiles + Restoration, you won’t really be needing those healing skills as they only benefit one person. Heal tiles and Restoration will be shared amongst the party.

You’ll lose out on CC-Resist from Bloodletting, but in PvE resistence to CC is almost entirely situational and isn’t required 100% of the time. In the end you have to decide what kind of playstyle you are going for as all of the builds in this guide are viable Support/DPS except the Full-SPR build which is entirely Full-Support. Magic defense buffs and Zalciai comboing with high SPR. Not something I would personally ever play again but it’s an option.

I tested a full SPR Krivis c2 > Paladin c2. It’s kind of meh for me. I dislike having to cast Zalciai and Deprotect, cast time, setup, etc. But if you are playing Full-Support it doesn’t matter so much.

I want to ask something , if you know pls :3

How good are priest c3 + paladin c3 buffs at endgame?
still usefull or just a gargabe flat buffs :c?

Circle 3 Priest offers: (The best support in the game)

  • Level 5 Ressurection
  • Level 10 Revive
  • Level 10 Mass Heal
  • Level 5 Stone Skin

Blessing applies to each hit, Sacrament adds additional holy property to each hit. You can apply it to many setups. You have to be very committed to the goals you set yourself.

Saying something is garbage without having played it yourself is not a good place to start. Good luck!

Edit: On the other hand, Priest c2 offers barely passable results compared to c3. Cleric c2 provides much better heals, safety zone attribute, divine might and fade.

This is your best option if you aren’t fully invested in the Priest class. You also have a Rank 3 and Rank 7 you can fill with anything you want.

PvP + PvE viable

It’s very similar to the Plague Doctor Build but at Rank 8 you’ll get more invulnerability with Sterea Trofh. But you might want to invest in another Rank 8 option.

Pros:

  • Conviction will increase your damage further (PvE).
  • Can equip Animus to further increase your magic amplification.
  • At Rank 8 you can get Druid c2 for more invulnerability and damage.
  • Can use Telepath to confuse the enemy and move them into your traps.
  • Carnivory gives you more ground control.

Cons:

  • Lack of CC-resist, might be possible if you stat high SPR.
  • You’ll be vulnerable and squishy due to low CON.

In the end you will have something like:

Statting SPR:

  • Gives you natural CC-Resist
  • Improves your damage with zalciai + smite/conviction
  • equipping crit rate gems on your left and right hand can further boost your crit rate.

This is entirely a hybrid (Physical + Magic) build. But is it viable? I’d say yes.

Edit: I’ll add this to the OP if it gets 4 or more likes!

You say physical mix cause paladin damage skills are physical, right?

I was wondering if with a good weapon you may have decent (not overwhelming) DPS to help while supporting with paladin, not investing in STR neither DEX, but rather CON (life plz), SPR (buffs, debuffs, magic def, regen, mana pool for long runs), and INT (boost matk if you go Krivis, Druid or PD - which benefits less from weapons usually, heals). Smite and Conviction do have base high atk if maximized.

Hey OP, I’m planning to start playing once F2P is live. I’m very interested in making a paladin as my first toon and would most probably follow your Full STR build (cleric c2 > diev > pal c3 > PD). One question though, some people said you wouldn’t be able to land Smite on PvP if your opponent has high dex. How true is this? Would this also be true in PvE?

So I’m thinking since I’m already c2… should I reroll or attempt to see what kind of hell I’ll go through leveling a c2-p3-pal2 and would that at all be effective in PvP, or is pal3 where it shines.

Also if say doing earth tower. Will people just hate me?
