On uselessness of Evasion

In the past days i completed all Tevhrin stalactite caves maps, and more than once i was spotted by groups of 3-4 archers, they destroyed me. I said to myself: “ofc i didn’t use swift step lv10”. Same result.

So i tested how much actually evasion is useful in a build like mine with 160 DEX and full leather armor.
The results left me a little discouraged:

With 300 Evasion
Kepa (lv1) hit me 30/60
Blue Spion Archer (lv225) ,mindful of their damage back in the days, hit me 39/60
Aklhass Beorn (lv281) hit me 49/60

i know Evasion was reworked with other stats but i feel it’s not right to get hit half of the time by the lowest mob in the game, at least not for a 330 character. If melee mobs can be evaded just by moving away from them, archers can’t.

Ktos buffed the defense of plate and cloth armors incredibly, leaving to Leather armor the only role to buff critical rate as they provide no evasion bonus and few defense.

these are my 2 cents about it, thank you for the patience

Evasion should be used more, for both players and mobs. A general buff to Evasion could be good, through Leather having an effect, more items utilising it like potions, and equipment substats using it more effectively, along with other buffs through skills.

Evasion, (and Block) could be better made to be something to actually build for, and build against, in PVE and PVP. They already partially can be, but they are fairly limited in the options for playing and counter playing them which makes for linear mechanics.

You brought up another issue with Leather, and giving Leather Mastery an Evasion bonus could be good, perhaps if it were %. Leather also has another problem with it almost always being useless for Magic users, which harms the options of Magic users when it could be another interesting viable option.

If you’re curious, here’s the Evasion formula:

(Evasion - Accuracy)^0.65

thank you,
one little clarification: i found the formula before making this post, i used it to calculate theoretically what are the chances to evade an attack.
Unfortunately the values confused me a little, that’s why i tested in game how evasion worked.

Ah okay, I thought you might have, but I couldn’t be sure.

I suggest using the formula either in a Spreadsheet or calculator like Wolfram:

Evasion indeed is in a very weird spot right now. The only way it can somehow work is if you invest a lot in DEX as long as your build allows you to. Evasion (albeit flat) and DEX bonuses from gear also still helps, but overall things are not as good as before especially for most archer builds.

SR3s are probably the only build right now that benefits from a high-DEX/evasion build because they have 25% gun accuracy bonus already to a point that just 2 lv.7 yellow gems on gloves and a little STR investment is enough for the current content; plus with a decent crit rate stack they can hit very high crit attack while having decent block pen rate.

@Queue thanks again for the spreadsheet, values are right and almost the same of my test.

All considered a character that can stack 500 evasion has 43% dodging chance vs a lv300 Green Flamme Archer

@ZeroFoxGiven

being full Dex is pricy and can olny shine on late game. Unfortunately it means being a glass cannon or a lv15 Condensed Potions Addicted.
Evasion seems a forgotten stats. Green gems level 6 only provides 24 evasion and takes away a precious boot socket (monster gems or blue gems are definitely better in that socket).

One last thing is the big gap between plate and leather as:
-Kaulas leather pants +4 (315) provides 203 physical defense
-Grynas Leggins +1 (220) provides 201 physical defense (and this value is going to be doubled by next plate/cloth patch)

Leather is definitely in a bad spot in my opinion

I agree on this point of evasion being next to useless stat right now. Even my full dex archer c3 with lv16 swift step didn’t manage to evade even 10% of HG320 mobs (I don’t really remember the values now, it was done during reset event).

On the other hand, even one knows what block can do.

My shield build archer which is str/con can block like 60% of physical hits on HG320.

Post-balance in a nutshell:

Monsters have high accuracy but low block penetration => Block more useful than evasion. However, block can’t be used without shield = useless for dual wielder or 2hand weapon.

with 400 evasion, a 0 accuracy mob like kepa is able to hit 49% of the time.
Evasion definitely needs a re-re-balance

Not really; if they introduce more items to rise evasion as a secondary effect, it can be easy to accumulate enough evasion to rarely get hit.

You can e.g. get 2-3 Velorchard cards (40-60 evasion), some additional DEX from armor (as we know the new 350 equipments have up to 4 different stat boni, so additional evasion and DEX is an option now) and use the new overpowered items to come with the challenge mode dungeon recipes.

As we’ve already learned from the previous sneak peek, we can imagine more items like these Vikrus boots that feature +150 evasion & +23 DEX (which adds for a total of 173 evasion and has 3 slots for up to 3 green gems; 7* green gems in shoes add 32 evasion, so the shoes alone can net you 269 evasion, if you over-achieve with 8* gems even 299), so it might not be that hard to achieve more evasion in the near future.

Let’s hope then, even if i’m skeptical.
