All of us are already angry trying to push a npc with the mouse in the middle of so many people selling buff and repair, just as this new event is full of people on top of the npc making it impossible to click on it.
My suggestion is to make it impossible for at least 3 steps (3AoE) of each npc use skill, thus making it easier to find npc.
This was suggested lots of times and they still pushing with their bellies.
I suggested that to make an area in each city to let be used as a free market, you can only setup shops in that area, away from npcs and statues.
As for the field what you said could be implemented.
