No dedicated thief class is disheartening

Many other games use a bow and melee synergy, be it kicks or a dagger. A quick google search will yield plenty of results.
WoW is WoW and not ToS and in my opinion WoW sucks. If you like things to be like WoW, go play WoW not ToS.

Oh I miss the classic assassin in RO too. A weapon specific to them a.k.a. katars/jurs. I play corsair2>dragoon right now and it’s nowhere near the classic assassin. No mobility and no poison. Rogue on ToS resembles Rogue in RO but like I said, classic assassin is completely different. I completely get you and I really want them to make another base melee class like thief. Less base HP and all that but with really crazy damage.

tbh they shouldn’t name it Shinobi and put those ninja themed skills on the class. It should be made a Strider class or something… with the same skill concept, but different, more suiting theme.

I have to admit, I’m having a hard time seeing this objectively. I can’t imagine swordsmen dodging and dishing out crits. My problem is with that stupid circle 1 obligatory swordsman pick. But I’m coming to terms with it I guess.

I’m sorry, don’t tell me to go play another game just because I used a single example from it. Thanks and bye.

That makes more sense :), semantics. I understand that hidden classes are unique, but you know, they give clerics a chaplain as a hidden class and not a satanist(completely opposite but still ā€œreligiousā€), just like a shinobi and swordsman(both are warriors, but have no real connection thematically)

I’m kinda disappointed at how bland the selection of classes are. There’s 4 branches, and most classes you will play stray from that archetype very weakly. Adding some more branches such as Thief would be pretty cool. Too bad that’s about as likely as pigs flying, what with the current setup IMC has for the game and how likely they are to stray from that model.

Rogue will never change to your liking, which is good. Apology accepted.

You said the key word which I failed to use, ā€œArchtypeā€. I think identity crisis is what’s happening to me. I understand now that I can have similar playstyles to thiefs or assassins, but being a swordsman with ā€œsimilar capabilitesā€ is really offputing.

I’m not sure, but I think you were referring to the base classes or ā€œclass treesā€ right? Like having a 5th that was dedicated to the ā€œthief/rogueā€ role? I’m not sure there is enough there for that, but it fits in nicely with the swordsman/archer branches as others have mentioned

I agree that rogue has just so little support from others classes, it would be cool if we had some skills in early classes(a melee attack for example) that support the rogue playstyle, as rogue you can only rely on backstab to damage melee which is really bad for the risk the rogue must pass to get close combat.

Corsair is indeed very cool assassin like class, and shinobi is alright in the swordsman tree(although i think it would fit as well in the archer tree as a hidden class).

ToS’s world is based closer to Norse mythology (if Ragnarok Online’s influence on this game is anything to go by). So no Satan. I’m also assuming the Tree of Savior is another name for Yggdrasil.

Edit: I’ve been had

I’m not sure if this helps, but in FFXI people would often sub the ninja classes with warriors as their main class. And that combination was actually very effective in both tanking and solo play since ninjas used a lot of misdirection and Utsusemi arts. Again, I’m not sure if this helps considering my knowledge of the Shinobi, Rogue and misc. classes are nill, but I thought I’d offer my two cents.

Edit: I kind of wish they would just allow you to pursue any class you wanted when advancing. Like I love supporting but at the same time I want to tank like a beast and deal damage. O.o Having that freedom would offer a lot more interesting combinations.

If they can make corsair fit in the swordsman tree, which I don’t think it does hoenstly, they should have a c2 or c3 swordsman class that deviates from the ā€œsword and/or shieldā€ archtype and focuses on stealth and dual wielding which can then become a corsair/shinobi. which is a ā€œlogicalā€ progression, meaning the skills make sense to use together. I feel corsair kind of awkward and as pointed above, makes players suffer from ā€œidentity crisisā€, where we don’t really know what exactly we are, we’re just going along.

Agi swordsman were a thing in RO as well, especially early on.

A whole new character archetype just because a few people want to be a ninja without first being a swordsman seems like a lot of unnecessary work.

I don’t remember the source properly, but the creator of ToS said previously they wouldn’t make a thief class.

yeah a whole 10+ classes all with an assassin theme?
i can only think of like 4 that would fit.
plus they have shinobi, if u wanna be a ninja, go shinobi.

:x:

It’s actually :

  • Laima
  • Vakarine
  • Saule
  • Gabija
  • Giltine

Etc.

To add to @Gwenyth 's words, Tree of Savior is the game’s name, taking from the two central devices of the game, the Divine Tree and the need of a Savior. Also that tree is known as Austras Koks, although that could be Latvian (which is also Baltic so what does it matter?)
