Nexon invests in South Korean PC and mobile developer IMC Games

Nexon has made an investment in Tree of Savior online PC game developer IMC Games.

Tokyo-based Nexon announced today that its Nexon Korea subsidiary made a strategic investment in IMC Games, which was founded in 2003 and is led by CEO Hakkyu Kim.

IMC Games is a game development studio known for its massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) with rich and creative graphics including Tree of Savior and Granado Espada.

With this investment, Nexon and IMC Games will work closely together to reinforce service of Tree of Savior and launch Tree of Savior: Mobile Remake on a global basis.

“We’re thrilled to strengthen our collaboration with our talented partner, IMC Games,” said Jiwon Park, CEO of Nexon Korea, in a statement. “We are confident that together we will continue to deliver high-quality games that leverage strength of each company in game development and publishing.”

Tree of Savior has been out since December 2015 in South Korea, and September 2016 in Japan. It has fairytale style graphics and a deep customization system.

“We hope this partnership with Nexon will be an opportunity for us to promote the development of the new mobile title,” said Hakkyu Kim, in a statement. “We look forward to delivering high-quality content through both new and existing titles.”

Could be good could be bad. Nexon NA sucks at least.

Best case scenario: Development speed reduces, we get necessary changes faster. Improvement in our versions service.

Do I believe this would happen? Sadly no.
I really do hope that nexon would acknowledge the potential international player base as well but not in the Nexon NA kinda way.

On a side note. The article doesn’t mention steam servers at all. What are we commercially considered as?

Welp, not even a reassuring statement about making TOS (desktop) better. It seems like they’re very fixed on making a success with the mobile version.

Was all this “we want to make the game good” acts lately only a cover to convince Nexon that IMC is serious?

What if Nexon decides to think with their pockets, sees the decreasing population iTOS have and concludes that we’re not worth the needed dev support?

Still waiting for this company to admit this and apologize to beta and founder players.

One thing is certain: Mr Kim’s wallet is great again.

Now that Nexon is a shareholder of IMC Games, will Nexon bring p2w stuff to iToS, and directly take over iToS management? Or perhaps, things improve for JTOS and the rest eats dust?

This sounds to me like they’ll completely forget about iToS and we should just play the Mobile Version when it comes out
iToS can’t be saved anymore apparently. Mobile at least will have completely fresh servers.

I am sure “Mr. No” is not going anywhere and this server will never run parallel with kTOS because making the cash shop integrated into the website r hard. That is the only reason for them to have any problems running a mirrored server build because the translations have been client side since iCBT1.

Only real change they have to do is modify out Nexon’s cash shop system and unless I am right about them outsourcing staff to another Asian country there is no need for them to be translating anything. That is how poorly and low budget they have been running iTOS. Even a mid sized private server can be run better taking an open source code that amateurs do themselves.

Instead of believing in the fans here they lie and betray everyone by sleeping in bed with Nexon. Pure greed selling their souls to the devil and just continue to shaft players here. Just look at this website’s front page it is like a cancerous popup advert.

The western market is going to reject ToS mobile so hard. The core audience won’t touch it after IMC derped the PC version so hard and the casual audience (AKA 99% of mobile market) in the west isn’t interested in these kinds of core game experiences on mobile, they just want something they can play for 5 minutes at a time while in line at Starbucks or on the toilet or something.

It’s been a huge failing of IMC to do some research on what the western market wants and deliver it, this is just another blunder in that direction.

I think this investment may enable IMC to improve their games at a faster pace. Since iTOS is 96.69% copy-paste from kTOS, let’s hope they do a good and fast job on kTOS then iTOS can receive updates a bit faster :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I do not think that is how it works here. The people mostly on mobile right now are real cash cows. They have never played an MMO in their life to know bad or good and have never PC gamed the master race. They will never go on to the forums which Staff has cleverly done a good job hiding most threads deemed “negative” so nobody can see problems until it’s too late with time/money invested.

This server’s market was a niche stepping stone taking advantage of people like myself who actually believed they were going to work with people instead getting the complete opposite. It was a quick buck for them basically then China handed them the means to make a clean gettaway with that mobile app which they just stole for themselves.

Same tactics except bigger fish.

Right, my point is this kind of gameplay would not be appealing to them. I assume the mobile version still resembles ToS, therefore a lot of grinding instead of just 5 minutes of tapping on some candies. Imagine what a horrible time your typical casual will have making a class in ToS with its awful balance, too. They’ll probably rainbow and stop when they realize they suck at everything.
