New to TOS . Looking for advice and build help

Hey everyone very new to TOS but really excited for early access.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some things.

I’m a big fan of tanking and wondered how viable it is in this game as a role and solo play. Also can one make a tank and still have the end goal of being a squire as well.

If not so viable what’s the best build options for a 2 hand swordsman. Preferably with some survivability

Please include stat allocation as well. Over time I will try my best to understand the systems ! Thank you in advance !

You can get very resilient if you go pure tank (thinking peltasta/rodelero), and you cna fit squire somewhere in there if you want. But the problem with going full tank is your dmg outside of group content. I havent seen the dmg the classes i mentioned above can do but it wont be as much as a dps class ofc.

For tanking, the only class with actual tanking abilities is Peltasta. They can buff their defense with Guardian (not recommended unless you don’t mind the massive damage boost for a marginal defense boost) and High Guard (very much recommended, blocking nullifies damage reliably). They also can use Swash Buckling to hold aggro, which I think is basically exclusive to them. If you want to be able to tank, get this class to at least 2nd circle, if not 3rd if you want some damage. Peltastas can do decent damage with Umbo Blow if you use it after a successful block: it’ll hit twice for double damage. With the High Guard attribute, you can do even more damage while the buff is active at the cost of your other skills taking a hit to damage. Otherwise, you can branch off into Hoplite and be an off-tank of sorts since they still use shields. Hypothetically, having 2nd rank Peltasta and then going into Hoplite can get you a lot of block bonus with the combination of High Guard and Finestra (the damage drop from High Guard will still hurt your damage overall, however). Rodelero is actually a DPS class, with Targe Smash giving a lot of DPS potential. Still, they have a lot of utility for CC with their abilities and can stun reliably with Montano. Squire is available as soon as Rank 5, but can held off if you want to develop any of the earlier classes. I actually have made a skeleton build for Peltastas on ToS Base’s skill simulator, which you can view here:

As far as stats are concerned, they don’t factor into damage too much. If you plan on using High Guard, don’t invest into DEX as you won’t be hitting criticals often anyway. Invest mainly into Strength, as you still want to be able to do some damage. CON is going to be your secondary stat to gain HP, but Swordsmen have a naturally high HP growth so it may not be necessary to have too much CON. Finally, if you feel that your low on SP a lot, then don’t be afraid to invest into SPR to help supplement your SP cap and regen. Sorry for the wall of text post, but I hope this helps. I played back in CBT2 and some of my info may be outdated, but it should still be mostly relevant.

More on stats:
CON also improves your Block rate, so depending on how much you want to focus on tanking you can have this skill over STR if you feel damage isn’t important.
Ratios that may be viable are:
STR2:CON1 This may be the most overall useful spread, as you maintain good damage while having decent HP and block.
STR1:CON1 A balanced approach, if you don’t mind sacrificing damage for more HP and blocking.
STR1:CON2 If you don’t care about damage that much, then this will help with your tanking abilities. 1:3 may also be an option, but at that point your damage will really suffer.
STR1:CON1:SPR1 If you feel that you need more SP you can try using this spread. Alternatively, you can do the STR1:CON1 spread and invest in SPR as you feel is necessary.
Just keep in mind that stats as a whole don’t influence your abilities too much, as your skills and equipment will dictate your abilities more than anything else in this game.

Appreciate all the feedback very helpful. I do want to be able to do damage cause I don’t believe I will be grouping all that much closer so just in case I do want to fend for myself.

So I’m guessing can I tank really well, do some decent damage I don’t mind drawn out fights as long as I survive and their not an hour lol. This isn’t monster hunter lol. I also want endgame to be Squire.

Any incite on that ?

If you want to do damage, then the 2:1 STR/CON build is probably gonna be your best bet. Peltasta have short CD, so even if your damage is subpar you can still spam skills more often compared to other Swordsmen, but of course your SP will suffer. That’s why you should probably invest into either SPR or stack SP onto your gear to alleviate that problem.
As far as endgame Squire, I never got that high in CBT but you definitely want weapon repair maxed to give everybody extra damage. Armor repair on the other hand isn’t so great as defense bonuses are much less noticeable compared to attack, but it may be nice to have depending on your needs. I don’t know how food tables work (only found one while I played) but I assume they’ll help with that extra bonus to stats.

So what path would you recommend

Tank - Sword - PeltaC2 - RodeC2 - FencerC2.

2H - Sword - Pelta - High3 - DoppelC2. OR Sword - High - BarbC3 - DoppelC2.

No brainer, really.
