So I’m starting fresh on the founders server with no prior experience with the game.
Looking at a Pvp S3>cata3>dragoon build. I have the skills figured out.
What kind of stat distribution am I aiming for with this? 4str-2con-2dex?
Also how much am I going to be handicapping myself when it comes to PvE with this build? Am I going to be useless? Will I need to make a PvE character to farm for gear for my PvP toon?
How will leveling be?
Skills reset scroll on for skills or for class ranks too?
Also You can use a controller for the game too? what do you suggest keyboard or controller?
Thanks for your info!!
From my experience in CB2, swordman aren’t really great DPS classes by default. Even as a pure DPS swordy, a pure DPS mage will out damage you for AoE skills and a pure DPS archer will out damage you for single-target skills.
1h and 2h weapons make a huge difference in your final damage (around double the damage you do), so if you intend on killing faster than the other DPS classes, don’t even attempt to 1h unless you’re using dual wield.
That being said, however, swordmen have about 3 times more HP than any other class (without considering the CON differences). That HP difference, however, sort of makes up for the fact you have to be on melee range with mobs most of the time, while the other classes can stay somewhat further away in a safer zone. In boss fights, however, the HP difference plays a big role and swordmen are usually the last ones to fall to the ground. Note that some cleric classes need to melee as well but they can heal themselves so it sort of equals out with your extra HP.
In CB2, the cataphract skills were pretty weak with long cooldowns (about double or tripple the cooldown now). They also only hit a certain number of mobs at the same time (earth wave only hits 4 mobs which is really lame considering it’s huge AoE). Many of times I’d see myself normal attacking mobs rather than using skills even if they weren’t on cooldown. That’s because the normal attack would hit (around 3 mobs at same time i think?) as much damage as it took to actually cast and use the cataphract skills.
The cataphract trot skill was very, very good. But it’s seriously lame that it has more cooldown than duration at early levels. Without trot, you move faster dashing outside of your mount than on it (on the mount you can’t dash).
Skill resets scroll would only reset your skill points, and not your whole class selections. The interesting thing about them, however, was the fact you could use your C1 class points into the same C2 class skills. For example, you could get 5 Pain barrier, 5 Gung Ho and 5 Concentration as swordy, and then go swordy C2, reset, and take out 5 points from pain barrier to add it into restrain, having 5 restrain, 5 gung ho and 5 concentration (before leveling C2 swordy). You can also do that even if you don’t reset skills, but you need to save your skill points for when you change to C2.
If I remember right, the game supported a controller, yes. But the controls themselves were a bit weird in the beggining, especially for ranged classes (swordmen the controls are pretty ok since you don’t need to target things far away much). I’d recommend using a mouse and playing it sort of like how you’d play ragnarok (but the controls are still quite different).
Lastly, the stats you suggested are ok for pvp, but for pvm it would be somewhat bad. Mobs don’t usually have much evasion rate (most of times your equipment can make up for the lack of DEX and hit rate you have) so getting dex not really that high but not really that low is quite of a waste. If you gotten DEX really high, you could do crits, but since it won’t be that high, it won’t be helping much with crits nor accuracy. In PVP, however, a decent DEX is necessary if you intend to win a fight with anyone with high evasion.
Wow thanks for the response. So what would you suggest for stat placement? and is there a reset scroll for the stats also?
If you want to go PvP, those stats are fine, if you want to go PvE, I’d recommend less DEX and how much CON depends on how much you want to sacrifice for survivability.
The stat reset scroll is 1 time use only and you only get one if you pay the #1 Founder’s Pack (50 dollars one). Apparently there’s no way to buy another in game (not even in cash shop). The skill reset scroll seems to sell in cash shop, however.
