must I delete a character to get this new companion??

Keep the egg until you get a new char slot.

I already have all 30 slots, so I guess I will have to wait till they allow us to buy more slots.

I wish companions/pets don’t eat up a char slot…sucks for me as a f2p player…

^ I agree with you, think about incoming companions in the future.
Pet’s are counted as lodge residents and they increase your team level, removing them would also require to make them not take part of the lodge exp calculation.
I suppose that giving a way for F2P players to acquire new character slots would give a proper fix to this, no? 
Either by getting through events or acquiring them from cash players.
Pets should never contribute to team level in first place.

Yea, i would rather have them not take up slot and not contribute to team exp. If they don’t take up slot AND contribute to team exp would be wonderful of course, but good things like these dont occur in real life…
By the way, if I delete my leaf penguin does that mean i will never be able to get one ever again?
Also if i delete a TP shop pet (battlebird), does that also mean it’s gone forever?
