Was a solution ever presented for this? My friend is experiencing it chronically right now and I’m trying to help them.
Error 8 means unstable internet connection. The game is really picky about having a stable connection, any packet loss will generate that error. Had that problem recently due to some DNS issues, couldn’t play at all and had to wait for DNS problem to solve itself.
They would have to rework their network code, which won’t happen at this stage. Currently everything must be sequentially processed, meaning that any packet loss will make the game unresponsive, there is no failsafe/retry mechanism. Any other game that I play, even online roguelikes that have been coded by amateurs in a few weeks, have that mechanism which allows you to continue playing if your internet has a small “hiccup”.
