My first Swordy - need (weird) Dragoon build help

Thank you, that helps me a lot with just getting started! I wouldn’t have taken Gung-Ho if you hadn’t told me to now since I would have assumed I’m supposed to have Guardian up at all times.

I’m not a fan of Hunting Grounds because the RNG usually hates me with drops and I tend to level faster in Valandis 91 as well. So I indeed don’t intend to go there with any character of mine, really (I appear to be an oddity when it comes to this game, not doing the apparently popular stuff at all…).
With you saying that Sw2-Doppel is actually viable as well if I don’t do any of these things: Which build is less pot-hungry? I love to avoid using pots whenever possible, especially because I’m broke as heck right now (bought a legendary card, spent everything I ever owned).

NP, most of the time you will default Guardian but the other swordie skills are pretty bad, so you might as well have it for additional offense when you need it. Bash 5 is just for the knockdown attribute, you can get it at 3 but again the other swordie skills are bad.

That’s really interesting since usually I hated knockdown with my Wizards, so actually wanting to use it for once will be a fun change.
Any tips for the Hoplite skills? I checked several guides now and they all take Synchro Thrusting to 15, which I obviously don’t wanna take since I won’t wear a shield, so I will have quite a few points left over.

This is your friends build, this was one of the best builds before the guardian update, but I can’t reccomend this anymore, just if you really don’t wanna start over :tired:

Please go peltasta-san

Alright, Peltasta it is.
And that build is actually WAY different from the others I’ve seen (which usually were Dragontooth at 15 and Dethrone just at 3)! But I’ll just follow yours then! A bit sad that Spear Throw really seems to be bad since no guide ever skills it and I love the idea of throwing the thing around, but oh well. Thank you so, so much for the guide - having something to follow makes it much easier for me!

And I’m level 21 or so and can just rank down. All I did so far was killing 500 Hanamings. That’s not a big thing to start over from.

Good Luck then, ah yeah, Spear Throw is really slow and low damage T_T.

Thank you so much!
And aw, that’s really sad. Especially since it’s a circle3 skill and all I thought it would be great. Too bad. At least I know now before putting points into it!

couple comments on this build

Not getting pierce seems like a mistake, at least for bosses I would drop 4 points in Lunge and get 4 in pierce. Since it deals 4 hits on bosses it will be a base SFR of like 900% so it is worth getting at least for that.

no need to get 2 in serp, just get 8 in tooth.

Replying to myself here since i was wrong about rete. Trident Finish has a hard requirement of 1h spear, so it can’t be used at all with a 2h spear.

That being said, if you want 2h spear, rete would not be a good option at rank 10.

Thank you for answering that; while I’m not caring about Rank 10 until it’s actually here, this is good to know. Right now I’m only level 150 and stabbing monsters in DP2. It’s pretty slow-going as a Hoplite, but I supposed I’m just too used to wizards at this point.

I have one more question: Why am I not supposed to max Dragontooth? Most guides for 1h Dragoons have it at max and I figured that it’s actually the skill where a 2h spear will shine the most, given its effect with 2h spears.

Tooth is a bit wonky in that it has a charge time/cast time. This makes it the most difficult dragoon skill to use effectively.

It is still good for 2h spear, just not the best. Better off maxing Soar/Dethrone/Fall since they are easier to use and higher damage.

Aaah, that makes sense then. I hate cast/chargetime skills (especially without Surespell), so I will indeed go the easy route then and max the others. Thanks so much!

To be fair, it is a charge time so damage can’t interrupt it by default but yeah it is tough to use.

For leveling, I assume you are rocking pardoner buffs and hopefully finding parties in DP2. Usually people will join up with a blind invite to party.

That’s helpful at least, but still sounds difficult to use. Well, I guess I will just see for myself.

Yeah, I’m in DP2 with the buffs. Sadly it’s been overfilled with already-full parties the last three days. Partied up with a single archer once and it had been slow. Though to be fair, poor little Hoplite doesn’t have much luck - I’m switching between her and my smallest Wizard who’s in the same level range, is sorc2, just sits on Froster Lord’s head and nukes the screen with a summon skill every few seconds. Little Hoplite has to stab everything manually, which is simply not as AoE, so it’s likely just the immediate comparision.
The leveling is really smooth; given how it’s lowlevel and the buffs are still super-powerful, I two-shot everything. Also wearing Cafrisun and still having no health issues. It’s just slower than I’m used to (at least when I’m solo), not uncomfortable or anything. I guess I also maybe should have spread my skillpoints out more at first; right now I’m stuck with Stabbing and Bash as my only non-buff skills and AA is just faster at the moment, so it’s just simple grind without flashy skills, but also no pot use needed, which is nice.

AA will be faster than skills until you hit goon3, lol. It is what it is but when you hit 200+ and start doing challenge modes leveling will be a breeze.

As long as you use swashbuckling you will be desired in parties.

Ah, I don’t do CMs (too much lag; I play the game with half the RAM stated in the minimum requirements and it sadly shows…), so I just grind normally. It never was much of an issue before, though, and if AA is the fastest way, then that’s just fine with me. I raised an AA Chaplain and so far this feels not that much different. I’ll just try the usual DP2-Cranto-Kalejimas-300Dungeon-Sausys-Valandis91 route to 360 that I usually take and see how far I get with it, I guess.
