Will Cassis Crista able to auto swap and swap back when you have a 2h in main hand and required weapons in offhand? Also can you mount with the buff up? Intending to use the class solely for this buff, so dont need information about its other skills. Also are all skills usable while using Cassis Crista?
You can wear crista and then ride but it will graphically bug your character. Murmi can’t use skills while riding tho.
I believe you can swap to 2h too (haven’t tested) but I don’t see much reason to make a 2h Murmillo since many skills require a shield to be used. If you’re 2h build you most likely want to pick Doppel.
So if say I have a 2h spear in my Main hand as a catagoon, a 1h spear in my swap. Would using Cassis Crista allow me to still use all of my normal 2h spear skills?
I don’t have a 2h-able Murmillo build to answer you with 100% certainty, but I can unequip my shield/1h weapon fine with Cassis Crista’s buff on and it won’t wear off. By logic, you should be able to swap to 2h spear and use 2h skills while the helmet is on (but you can’t put on/off the helmet while using a 2h wep).
That being said, I see no reason to make a Cata -> Murmillo instead of a typical Murmillo or a Cata -> Lancer. You’d have to manually swap weapons a lot (very annoying) and you wouldn’t be benefiting from Murmillo’s biggest strength which is the Cassis’ attributes to boost Peltasta/Rodel/Hoplite skills.
By going Murmillo instead of Lancer in a Cata build you’ll be losing a lot of potential damage aswell as defense. Initiate buff from Lancer allows you to block attacks while wearing a 2h Spear. It may not have as much block rate as a true Murmillo wearing a shield, but it’s still reasonable and more efficient than swapping weapons and constantly losing all your block. Initiate has a long cooldown for the buff’s duration, but future Lancer circles may make it much more useful and a future patch will make Initiate buff Cata’s Rush skill damage by 30%.
I’m also going to mention that having two main weapons and having half your skills useable by one and other half of skills useable by other is a terrible idea. Not only you have to swap weapons (which will be really annoying eventually) but you also have to transcend and waste twice as much money for keeping both weapons considerably good (and in your case, also a shield).
As much as you want to build a 1h sword/spear and shield Cataphract, the class simply doesn’t synergize at all with Murmillos. If you really want to stick to the idea of a 1h Cataphract, then I’d recommend picking Dragoon 2 instead of Murmillo (which allows you to use 1h spears + shield with all skills). However, be aware that the developers already pointed out they want Catas to be Lancers and Hoplites to be Dragoon. This means you might be losing out a lot of synergy from these classes in the future.

Sorry but I forgot to mention you can’t use any of Murmillo skills while mounted. Cassis’ buff will stay, but you’re losing a lot of skills by being a mounted class.
After reading your posts again I finally understood you want to build a 2h Murmillo and not a 1h Cata-millo. What would be the reason you want Cassis Crista helmet so much? Helmet attribute will only buff 1h/shield skills and not 2h ones.
My reasoning would be solely for its defensive properties. In pvp damage is probably easiest thing to come by.
Is this initiate effect hidden?
Cassis Crista gives a chance for magic attacks to “miss” you which is nice but not really that reliable. I’ve heard people saying it makes you immune to debuffs but that’s not really true. The “immunity” just happens when the magic atk misses you and thus the debuff doesn’t happen.
It may still be easy to 1-hit other players in pvp with lower rank skills (or stun lock kill them with Rush) and thus you may be tempted to give up on rank 8 skills because of that (for a purely pvp character). However, with the upcoming patch that’ll double defensive values for all armors, you can expect your lower ranks skills to be much less reliable and then you’ll be missing out on the stronger R8 skills (i.e. Crush, Quintain).
Lancer is already a pvp focused class (though it performs okay in pvm as well), switching it for Murmillo just for the helmet alone sounds like a terrible trade-off to me. Remember you’re also losing on good pvp skills such as Joust (that removes enemies AoE spells) and Initiate (that helps penetrating shield characters).
However, I have very little experience in pvp so my opinion may be biased on my own Murmillo / Cassis Crista experience for pvm. I have no idea what’s the actual % chance of the helmet blocking a magic attack, but to me it feels like somewhere around 40% (no idea if it depends on some stat, either).
And yes, Initiate effect is hidden. It allows you to block with a 2h spear equipped (though your block rate might be quite low if you don’t have Hoplite or high CON).
