Mouse controls / keyboard feedback

During the closed beta, I played a Wizard. The mouse controls seemed fluid and good, except sometimes it was hard to target a specific monster in a large group. I also REALLY wanted to be able to bind a spell to mouse buttons, but was unable to do so.

As for Warrior, I find it almost unplayable with mouse controls. I found the positioning of the melee attack key akward. The ability to re-bind keys could fix this (having “attack” on right or left click would be awesome). The whole targeting system just confused me too. All I wanted was a button to lock onto the nearest target and then be able to cycle targets with Tab. The whole target “locking” system seemed strange and uncomfortable. Maybe I was missing something, but I really didn’t like the way melee classes controlled.

IMC had a warning when you go into mouse mode. “unsuitable for cleric or swordsman” But can you not rebind keys in that mode?

It has been mentioned in Feedback several times already.
In iCBT there was no way to re-map the controls in-game - you had to manually edit the corresponding .xml file in the game client. Hopefully there will be a proper UI for that.

As for binding stuff to right click - not gonna work unless IMC decides to rewrite the entire control scheme. As of now it doesn’t allow multiple binds for the same key, so the moment you bind “attack” to Right Click you lose the all inventory, NPC/vendor and similar functionality which was bound to right clicking before - unless you assign the previous right click function to another key.

In games like Tera this was solved by switching to “Menu/inventory” mode for non-combat mouse interactions - ToS just doesn’t have one.

I played archer and in general I liked the mouse control. The big problem at least in the last cbt was how bugged it was. There were quests and npc whom you couldn’t talk until you changed to keyboard controls

they must make suitable
people love play with mouse ;p

mouse control was main intended for archers and wizards since they are harder to control with keyboard for those who haven’t played range classes with keyboards~

you could get a few worthwhile/powerful/one-hit multiple mobs AoE skills along the way while ranking up to deal with this problem, or just go linker with a lot of single skills and explode them all~

I have been using controller mode for ranged and melee and its been great (not saying mouse doesn’t need fixes but maybe try another mode?)

idk about controller or joypad so… im all ears~

we need mouse functions for all classes, kinda feels empty without the mouse

I think mouse controls need some work.

Most of all I would prefer to remove targeting on mouseover and substitute it with RMB/LMB sticky targeting.

After targeting a monster from a distance you have to be focused on your cursor not to accidentally target some random monster, which is harder than it seems when:

  1. there’s a lot of monsters on screen,
  2. you’re moving a lot,
  3. monsters are moving a lot.

More often than not I need to focus more on the location of my cursor than which skills am I using, what’s my SP and my movement which is absurd.
Also tooltips should be adjusted not to display keyboard controls when I use a mouse type setting.

Being able to rebind the hotbar shortcuts would also go a long way.

EDIT:
ctrl to lock target doesn’t work in mouse mode, just rebind it to RMB and problem solved.

Mouse control have some problems. Melee could work very well if it was better implemented, like it is in other games.

Some of the problems:

  • When you click on a dialog choice, you character will move where you clicked when the dialog is over.
  • When you click to move to a position and use a special attack, you character will resume moving to the position when the attack is over. Your character should simply stop moving when any attacks are made.
  • When you click to move in a free area, your character should keep moving in the direction of the cursor as long as the mouse button is pressed even if there is an obstacle or monsters over the cursor.
  • Charged attacks such as Cartar Stroke should go in the direction of the cursor when it’s done charging.
  • Your character should not just stop at an obstacle, it should slide on walls like with keyboard or gamepad controls.
