[MONK] Some Questions about Monk from a newbie :)

Hey Hey^^

i have a few questions about the Monk, since im an old RO player and a Champion was my main.

Im kinda new to this game and not that experienced with Monks at all, so i will try to ask only “some quick questions”

-How viable is a MONK in Pvp/GvG?? Are they needed ? or does every GVG guild say NO to a MONK? since this is one of the things im interested in to play :smiley:

-How is the Leveling as a Cleric/Monk? since i will solo most of the time leveling.

-Hows the Lategame in PVE of a Monk? And hows the DMG at all? I dont need to do 50k Crits, but i’d like to do at least “some” okayish/good dmg.

I appreciate any kind of help and advice! :smiley:

First things first. nothing alike. not even a little

No they are not needed and their viability depends on their other class choices.

recruiting groups often specify NO MONKS.

If you want to play monk do it because you love the theme because your going to have to wait till balance patches to start before they have a chance to get good.

i played monk (champ) in RO too
played a Monk to lvl200 in the ToS beta.

and i got a lvl 265 monk here now.
and i gotta tell you- they are all telling the truth.

Monk is underpowered here in terms of REAL dps.
we got some nice doublepunches and energyblast thou that helps us dish out atleast some dps in a group. (my +dmg attributes are both at lvl50 now)

strongest downsides of energyblast:
you have to manage and plan a “long” preloading (that can also be interrupted)
(no phen card here yet haha)
and the 60sec cooldown are just "meh"
together with the fact that the dmg output of your blast stops asap if youre getting knockbacked

the dmg itself however, is still quite good, but nothing compaired to a fletcher or wugushi or warlock.

but you can also shine duo your preJob choices.
since youre cleric, you can also heal ,
if ur Priest you can buf/res and revive can safe your mates in danger.
if ur Dievdirby you can carv statues that gives -% cooldown on skills and less sp costs for your party
etc…

so basicly, monk is a class where you can support your party and have a pretty good and easy solo play, BUT also you can dish out “some” dmg with energyblast 1x each 60sec. (or 30 in best if u have a chronomancer in party)

its a fun class to play, BUT if you want the champ as back in RO, youre wrong here.

BUT we all can hope for Rank8 (lama)
lama is called “the next monk lvl”

so all my hopes are into the new ranks for monk :3

I think zealot will more likely be the monk progress not lama but we can only guess for now.

Is there any cleric Class build which is offensive with good dmg and needed in gvg/pvp/pve? So not only supportive? Or do i have to go for wizard instead to Be offensive and effective in pvp/gvg?

most of the dps cleric builds are good for pvp are good in 2v2 battle league which is not in ITos yet. Typically they take the supportive role otherwise.

currently this is your better route for a offensive build.

Im a bit sad since the only option to Be useful in pvp/gvg damagewise is the wizard cls? :confused:

Yea currently balance is bad but Ktos has been doing good balance patches. Hopefully well start getting those patches or similar ones when Itos starts working on balance.

Top DPS is either mage or archer, depending on the build, equipment, stat distribution and player skill. Fletcher owns the title for best single-target DPS for PVE.

DPS sword builds come second albeit significantly behind in general, maybe better than some lackluster mage/archer builds but never on par w/ the best DPS builds of those two.

Cleric IMO is a truly versatile class. While you can never match the best DPS build of the sword class, you’re covered by the number of support and utility skills the Cleric tree offers. Most builds shine best when in parties. Also, PVP Chaplain is a thing! :smiley:

In PVP/GVG though, it’s not all about having the best DPS. Good strategy involving proper initiation, positioning, support and CC can beat even the best DPS party/guild if executed well.

I dont need the highest dmg at all, im just trying to find a class which is good in pvp/gvg, needed and Doing some dmg since a Full supportive Class Is too Boring for me:/

then fletcher or wugushi (both archer branch) or warlock (wizard branch) is the way to go.

however, musketeer / canoneer (archer branch) are interesting too, since their future c2 and c3 ranks will dish out some very nasty and strong damage

keep in mind some of their current skills could become their rank 8 skills much like when rank 7 came out.

warlock is a c1 class currently too,
so its new ranks c2 (rank8) and c3 (rank9) will also be very strong soon ^^
atleast we can assume that

PVP Monk: useless against wisards, not even with blast energy.

PVE Monk: Independent! Go on a dungeon alone and survive. Only a few classes can do that.
But is horible when comes to damage on area, the monk is focused on single targets, except for blast energy that waste great time to recover from the cadence.

Leveling: Horrible to grind alone until you become a monk, but you can very well use Cards. People complain that you need to save cards, that a ridiculous waste of life time, there is lots of cards to leveling, people just dont want to make the quests, even more because when you do dungeons 90/115/130 you save even more time. Grind in party is good, but hardly a party want more than one cleric.

The best thing of the monk:

  • Be a phisical attacker and still be a healer.
  • The clots are awesome.

Bad things:

  • Monk is a PVP character, but is useless against wisards.
  • Individual Damage.

plus a zealot is jewish, monk isnt jewish (judaism)
monk is asian culture/religion , zealot is so much different

we can outdamage swordsman class, not archer and certain wizard builds though. but we can definatly outdps swordies

I did mention “best sword DPS build”. Something along Barb/Hop Dopel Shinobi (I forgot the exact build), but you can prove me wrong w/ a Youtube video or something.
