2 weeks after the TBL introduction i’d like to share my opinion on monk in pvp and read yours:
After reading a lot of kToS feedback, i knew that monk wasn’t in the pvp meta but i didn’t mind because i like the concept of the class and tought that i could be of some use in pvp and have some fun, but by getting carried by my team, i stayed in the top 30 of my server for a few days and participated in the “competitive pvp” (composed mostly of magic cleric/wizard btw)
And after getting flamed/rekt numerous time i began to spectate other monk in TBL and i feel like the class itself is almost useless in pvp beside energy blast (which has some major flaws): the only use of a monk build in pvp are the 4 circles before monk (usually cleric2/priest2 or cleric2/diev2)
In a classic TBL match a priest/monk will launch energy blast, buff and heal his team, rez (when the corpse are not sliding, if they are, well you’ll get flamed) and stay behind his team waiting for the cds, a dievmonk will carve his statue and do the same.
In other words almost any basic rank 4 cleric can do the same in TBL.
Concerning the class itself:
Double punch: after the recent patch this skill became quite good in PvE however it’s almost impossible to get in melee in PvP so this skill is very hard to land and this isn’t a burst skill so even if you land one, you’ll deal 1.8k at best and the opponent will flee
Hand knife: This skill has a knockback that can counter PD and can be used in combo (hand knife+double punch) in order to deal some damage but again this is very hard to land, has a 15s cd (if you miss, you’re screwed) and the combo itself isn’t that strong
Palm strike:Same as hand knife
Iron skin: useless
Golden bell: can be useful (the oponent waste their cd on you and the safety zone attribute is good) but last 4sec and has a 3min cd, so it can only be used once in a round (if you fail, you’re screwed)
One inch punch: This skill is REALLY good but again almost impossible to land and has a 20s cd (again if you miss you’re screwed)
Energy blast:This is the only ranged aoe damage skill that we have, has a knockback (pd counter) and good damage BUT while you use it you are stuck (which is VERY dangerous in PvP), in “competitive PvP” the high con kabba will oneshoot you by stepping in the blast, while charging it you are blue (and cannot cancel the skill) so the opponent will see you coming from far away and it has a freaking 60s cd which is huge compared to the skill damage and utility
And if we add the opponent’s block and dodge (even with high str/dex) and the huge amount of CC/OHKO skill in PvP this is even worse.
I feel like all the issue that i’ve listed are shared by our fellow swordsman and are caused by some core problem that all melee class have in this game (except maybe cata) making any melee build useless in PvP and so so in PvE
And even if i like the class, being almost useless and chain killed/flamed is not fun at all.
This is my opinion on the performances of the class in PvP (sorry for the wall of text), i’d like to have some feedback/advice in order to make the best with what we have!
