Hello Everyone - thought I’d share simple pure STR vs pure DEX damage comparison videos:
Level 177 - with no equipment
PURE STR MONK:

PURE DEX MONK (with Monstrance):
Thanks

the sound is -horrible- on those clips, and they’re kind of short to really see anything.
ok first video, looks like you ran in, shot across the side of the pack, and then punched the rest out…
second video you got a clean shot right through the middle, and the rest ran into it when approaching you?
what exactly is this supposed to prove?
yes the sound is horrible, not sure why.
not proving anything. if you had read the first line - just simply comparing the damages between full STR and full DEX…
imagine if the STR build’s damage would Crit…
he would do around 4k - 6k Damage(if target is weak against strike/slash)
all he would need is 1 lv6 green gem on offhand (46 crit rate) x2 Lv6 green gem on main weapon (32x2 =64) that would give him a 10% crit chance, then if he starts building dex from there with at least 100 Dex
The problem is the crit formula, based on your crit chance, the enemy crit resistance, and your lvl (wich is the main problem):
Final chance to crit = (Crit rate - target crit resistance)*(42/your level)
Beside the crit resi (wich is never very high in pve), the more lvl you get the more you need crit rate to crit. But the damage earnt from crit is much higher than from str if the base damage of the skill is high enough.
Also people trends to forget than dex is a stat giving you damage (in form of crit), hit, and evasion, while str gives you only damage. So basically if full str isn’t very different than full dex about damage, just go full dex because you get other benefits.
My personal feeling as a monk is that the offensive stats (dex and str) give poor bonus, scale bad and need a lot of investissement if you put them in front of cons or spirit.
For exemple a monk full dex/str will deal like 40-50% more damage than a monk full of cons/spirit with no offensive stats, but in the other hand he will have a lot more hp, block rate, good resistances to CC and block penetration (from spirit), wich is probably better overall if you don’t focus only for pve.
If you play pvp/gvg a few times with a monk you understand fastly than your main problem is the CC (15 sec sleep, 10 sec stuns etc…) and the Blocks. What is the point to have damage if you can’t hit anybody because you are perma CC or perma blocked?
And here come the stat called spirit who solve both problems, it’s probably the most underated stat by melee classes.
You know this actually make sense. Most people who go Monk has been either going STR or DEX or both along with some con.
But problem is…
High dex doesn’t do squat against people with high con or even full con wizards. Late game enemies start having high crit resist so you actually need to go extremely high in dex to make it worth it.
Your evasion doesn’t work against magic either.
SPR on the other hand might be good for a monk who went Monk-Priest instead of Monk-Diev. Especially with the upcoming ktos patch which make blessing scale with SPR and most priest skills scale with SPR anyway.
So I might actually consider 100con & spr, rest to STR.
wouldn’t you need dex to actually hit something?
had like 5x in 200+ maps and was missing a ton on specific mobs like rambears and the like… there’s monstrance but it can only benefit from more dex not to mention reapplying an already short buff is just one more on top of an already long rotation(though longer blessing is definitely a plus).
stats are gonna look like a real mess i think.
con for survivability, dex+monstrance to be able to hit and now SPR to boost blessing.
