Lodge channel question

Is the “channel” the server?
Wat is dat dar?> (#5)

Yes, it’s just the channel selection menu. The server is divided into channels.

Is a channel like a phased world? 0.o
Someone might need to define server and channel in a ToS context. I’m use to WoW

Similar to other MMOs channels act as separate instances in the same server. Essentially if your on the same server as someone (a friend) and you are both on channel 2 you will see each other. If you are on channel 1 and hes on channel 2 you won’t see each other. You can easily switch the channel both in-game and in the login screen. You will then be changed to another channel on the same server. There’s also a few other caveats like different mob spawns, world boss spawns, etc.

Hmmm, in WoW they have groups of servers (all the servers that are hosted at the same location I think) it sounds like in ToS the “server group” is called the server and the servers are called channels. Or do they call them Realms… (Are WoW realms and wow servers the same thing?)
Lol! Who cares I guess I understand anyway. XD

A bit of terms to get use to, but being able to easily switch between and not be stuck in one, sounds cool.

its help me when the world boss spawn, we defeat in channel x then we can jump to channel y when they not defeat it yet to get hit the world boss bonus drop :stuck_out_tongue:

Well the server group isn’t the server. The server is the server. Generally in MMOs like FF14 and WoW they have these groupings for a bunch of different servers. So lets say you go to pick a server in WoW, you pick a server group > pick the server > then log in. If ToS does not have server groups and only has a list then it will be, you pick a server > pick a channel > login. The server is the server no matter what. The server group is like the overall grouping but has nothing to do with anything else.

You could be in a server group and be in server XYZ, your friend is in server XY under the same server group but you still wouldn’t see each other even when in the same channel. Because you are in XYZ and hes in XY. Now if you are in the same server group and you both chose server XY then decided upon logging in, or mid game, that you want to both move to channel 2 then you will see each other. Server groups really have no purpose besides separating servers into groups or sometimes having different data centers like FF14. Think if there wasn’t a server group, you would see a huge list of servers and it wouldn’t make much of a difference anyways. Hope I explained it well enough.

Yes, channels and instances work in a similar way, it’s a measure to prevent overpopulation in an area.

@Chaosbelow explained it well, but I’d like to add another precision, just for your information.
(warning : it might confuse you) Two channels are owned by the same “logical server” indeed, but they can be hosted on different physical servers.
It is important to know that, because depending of the implementation of the network by the publisher, your ping can be better on a channel than another.

PS : I doubt it will be the case though, logically they will group the channels of the same logical server in one/multiple physical servers at the same location, but who knows…

It’s a typical Nexon / Korean game thing. Basically it puts the server into a bunch of mini servers, where you can decide the size of the player population you want to play with.

Thanks all,
Even channels are increasing my hype lol
