Linkers greatest asset or enemy within?

linking enemies great. linking players is cancer. there should be a option in settings to refuse being linked by non party members and even party members. run through a area to go to a quest giver and get linked by some one i dont know just so they can grind a little more and i get damaged some… there is a special place in hell for those people i am sure of it.

the only thing worse is if they link players during a boss battle. its a bad skill . it should be removed. linking players is dumb

linking enemies is almost to good to pass up. some bosses have adds

maybe the developers can meet people like me half way and remove the class

I think, linking people should also spread heals.

I don’t think you can link players that are not in the party. In your case, maybe you do quests in some maps like Rukas or Klaivas forest that some specific monsters have skill to link players and pets pass by.

If they link you against your will, you should just purposely take a lot of damage to get them killed.

When i get linked i run away till the distance breaks the link then come back.

there should be an option /nolink

I don’t think it should be removed. While i hate it in PVE it is a very very strong pvp skill.

It’s a very strong skill for PVE and PVP. The Attribute for it is AMAZING for party survival.

That said, I have never inadvertently linked a non-party player. I’m almost positive you can’t. If you aren’t in a party with a Linker and you are being linked by one, then report it as a bug because it should not happen.

I promise you that any mage or sadhu you link is NOT thrilled about it.

Once again, the ability should only be able to affect party members. Randoms that are “caught” in a link is flat out a bug.

Physical Link (which splits damage among party members).
This ability is used as a support mechanism to spread damage out among party members to enhanced survivability. There should not be out of party links.

So complaining about a bug in the mechanic is less about the mechanic and more about the bug. Which is why I specified they should report it.

Also, any mage, sadhu, etc that is in a party with a Linker and gets linked by Physical Link, should be happy they are assisting in the survival of the party. Either making sure the tank isn’t one shot or keeping the squishes alive from random AoE. You don’t have to be “thrilled” about contributing to the success of the party.

Your party consists of:
A 70% con Peltasta
A 10% con Linker
A 0 con dodge Sadhu
A 0 con Archer
A 30% con Priest

Without party link, the paladin is the only person taking damage, outside of emergencies. The healer has less to focus on.

With party link three of your members die if anyone gets hit by a boss. Also your Sadhu hates everyone because she can’t use OoB.

On the other hand, linkers can max every other skill if they dump party link.

LOL i tell those linkers get ■■■■■■ and i stop dpsing till iv walked far enough to break the link and come back. Linkers are invited to link enemies and use hangmans, nothing more. The clerics and tank will handle survival of the party. I have been in many many many groups that have told linkers not to use links on the party (without me even saying a word).

How does damage get spread?

Is it each player takes damage/number of players, or is it somehow based on how much of the total hp value a player is, like the tank with 90% of party hp takes 90% of damage?

If it is the former then Party Link is a trap that will get your squishy party members killed.

If the latter, then the damage split off to the lower teammate might just evaporate in their defense, and be generally a good thing.

I have been in plenty of parties where there is AoE damage that is hard to dodge and that made even more difficult because of lag of servers.

Additionally, Physical Link should not be up 100% of the time. It should only be used in some cases. I spend 70% or more of my time in parties doing dungeons. I know the fights and I use Link on boss mechanics that can and will hit multiple members splitting that damage across the board making it easier on healers. Add in the fact that I have the Attribute that increase defense of all linked members it enhances survivability even further.

The original point of this post is some_guy complaining about a bug in a mechanic that should not exist, the random linking of a player not in party. Not the use or viability of the Physical Link skill and the lack of comprehension that most Linkers believe the skill should be up 24/7.

I tried linking people in Klaipeda and it didn’t work. The links you are getting in the fields are cast by mobs.

Yup there are mobs that cast Joint Penalty but people don’t pay attention and blame linkers

I have a solution to your problem!

Just don’t party with random linkers or ask them not to link themselves to YOU.

A linker can pick who to link with if they wish, because the Link range isn’t unlimited so if you stand slightly further away from the linker when he links, you won’t get it.

Also linking people reduces overall damage significantly, and makes surviving for the mage much easier. I often times would link myself with the cleric and increase my survivability by quite a bit, while the cleric has usually no trouble avoiding/healing himself and me back up nicely.

If you have a problem with linkers, don’t pick them up into your group - problem solved.

Oh and the random linking outside of groups is the Companion’s doing, linkers can’t link non-party members.

Physical link is a great skill for mitigating damage. Boss attacks that deal 1k damage can be reduced by more than 50%. The main reason why this skill is so bad is that if you’re channeling a skill, you will be interrupted. This alone makes Physical Link nearly worthless to any party whose members use such a skill.

Good mages don’t get hit in the first place.

Yeah, give me a break with that excuse.

Even good mages are going to get killed every now and then, when a pack of 8-10 mobs aggro, if you don’t have a tank, you are likely going to take some hits for the team.
