Linker and general mage questions

After much up and down i decided on Linker for the next CBT.

Originally, from the info i have, i wanted to go Mage -> Pyro -> Linker x3 and then maybe more pyro.
My plan is simple, i combo joint penalty together with fireball (since it deals so much damage in a single point, spreading it out seems like a good idea).

Now, my questions:

  1. Are the linker skills in any way dependend on magic power / intellect?
  2. I was debating to get second circle mage to get surespell, but i gotta ask, how usefull is surespell? I heard elementalist has very high casting time, so i can see the use there. Also, in your opinion, should i get another main attacking skill other then fireball? If so, why?
  3. How strong must joint penalty become? Are 8 enemys linked at once enough? Is more overkill?
  4. How usefull is hangmans knot in an party? Are other players annoyed that their target is pulled away elsewhere?
  5. I heard in newer patches that joint penalty devides the damage now, is that true?
  6. Are status effects “linked” aswell? Aka, a monster gets poisoned, the other gets too?

  1. Only Hangman’s Knot uses INT and that’s only when you get the attribute for it. Everything else doesn’t really require INT to my knowledge.

  2. You’re not going for any class that has a cast time so Sure Spell doesn’t seem very useful but if you want, you can do it for testing purposes to see if any spell normally can get interrupted (from the classes you chose) and then use Sure Spell to see if it helps since I don’t think any of your skills besides maybe Energy Bolt has a cast time.

  3. Joint Penalty at level 15, at least in ToSBase, says it links 10 enemies together. That’s a significant amount already but it was nerfed from before where I think you could like 15 enemies together. It’s still an amazing support skill for fighting multiple enemies. When you’re fighting only 1 enemy, well… you’re kinda not helpful with that.

  4. Hangman’s Knot is very helpful as with the attribute it does damage, and it binds the enemy together for however long it says and if you have a small but powerful AoE like Fire Ball, you’re going to hit for the max amount of AoE.

  5. Joint Penalty shouldn’t divide the damage… if you can link the reference then it was severely nerfed and is almost as bad as Full Draw’s link (it’s not meant for the link but the immobilization but the link is still bad IMO)

  6. I’m not sure if the status is linked or not .-. ask someone in kCBT or test it out yourself later :smiley:

Of course i will test out, it’s CBT after all !

As far as I’m aware, status effects aren’t shared. Tested using Ice Bolt.

Single-target spell damage isn’t divided, however there’s some complex mechanics involved when you combine Joint Penalty with AoE spell.

So there is an interaction, huh. I thought AoE would just not work with joint penalty, thats why i choose fireball as my main attacking skill.

I have some questions about linker as well, if someone can pls answer :smile:

  1. Can someone please explain how life line works?

  2. With spiritual chain, what happens when you exceed the buff limit? Also, do the buffs disappear when the chains duration is over? Or will they follow their own duration?
