So i saw alot of cooldown related post as well as mp post, as while i dont think cooldown should be destroyed (as it would lead to a 1-3 button spam fest) i also dont think it should be as high as it is. It kind forces you to use ALL of your skills versus the maybe 70% that you actually like, and even with skill rotation it wont be until your like at class #5-6 that you’ll feel like you can have real skill rotation. Im basically pertaining this to skills with like a minute cooldown that aren’t really worthy of having such a long downtime (like the highlanders multihitting combo skill *cant remember the name). Not all skills need a reduced cooldown, but even some like the trap with a 2 ~ 3 min cooldown (Again the name escapes me) seems a bit to long.
Overheat.
Some skills can be used several times without going on cooldown, but cannot be
completely spammed or they will fill the overheat bar…
-Overheat gauge is measured by black / yellow circles on each skill square.
-Each skill has a different number of overheat circles.
-When overheated the skill will go on cooldown
-Only skill that goes over threshold is put on cooldown
-Gauge is reset after filled (?) [The skill goes on cooldown - there is no global gauge to reset]
-Skills must be alternated with basic attacks to manage gauge more efficiently [It is unknown how many auto-attacks are required to lower the gauge]
I actually like the fairly high CD for higher damaging skills meant for clearing a ton of mobs or doing a burst of damage at once because it makes you take your time and choose when to use the skill instead of using it all in a skill rotation like you said. I think the trap you’re thinking of was Broom Trap with a 90 second CD but it has a GREAT clearing potential and does a fair bit of damage for just one skill.
Also as @harimaku said, there is an overheat mechanic where you can cast the same skill more than once before it goes on CD.
TL;DR: I like how the CD mechanic is atm even if some skills are a bit long to wait on since it just means that we have to choose when to use a skill instead of throwing our all at one Kepa.
this idea is nice, tho probably would take a bigger system revamp
That system that @harimaku described is already in-game. Currently there is no issue with cooldowns.
i respect your opinion, i like cooldowns to for variety, just they seem a bit to high. Also yeah your right its broom trap, i looked at how long it took to do it again and simply made a -_- face.
Harimaku wasn’t giving you an idea, he was describing the actual system in place. I think as far as cool downs are concerned the game is where it should be. Not too fast, not too long. Makes your choices more meaningful in game instead of just mashing buttons as quick as possible.
Yeah lol I guess they are a bit too high
90 seconds is crazy and IIRC Fire Pillar is the same but it’s an even shorter duration as an attack and I think it even does less damage than Broom Trap (not sure but seems like it). Also as @FatePGN and @harimaku pointed out, the Overheat system is already in the game. Only certain skills have it however.
So does the overheat mechanic work as harimaku described or is it just a set number of independent cooldowns for the same skill? I remember the Multi-Shot for Archer would let you fire it twice before it went on cooldown, and when it came off cd both uses were available again. Does this mean if you stagger the uses it effectively never goes on cooldown?
So thats what those notches under the skill are? and how long does it take for them to refill
It’s the same mechanic as @harimaku described. To better explain, an example would be Multi Shot. You have 2 casts of Multi Shot and it only goes on CD when you have used both casts.
If you don’t use both casts however, it is a longer CD before you get both casts back so it is more efficient to use both casts in a relatively short period of time instead of holding onto it. The longer CD I believe is like a minute or more? I didn’t actually test it but you do get the cast back eventually … IIRC since it’s been a while since I’ve played
oh… thats fail then, you should be rewarded for not spamming not punished =s
