Let us choose rank(1)class

I find this kinda unfair for some builds for example we have solid builds like wiz3-ele3-wl3 but when we pick someting that doesnt work with wizard class like w1-cryo3-psy3… or psy2-RC? or cry2-psy3-RC? yea its forced rank1 class issue and build is wasted and it goes with many other builds that doesnt even use rank1 class at all so theres my suggestion:

  • rank 2 classes be available from rank 1 so we will be able to choose from 3 classes and not forced to build around one
  • add option to choose class from character creation
  • to apply changes rank reset voucher or event should work (with r10 or r11 update)
  • rank 1 advancement option should be available right after reset

This will allow us to choose path we want to go like:

  • swordsman for utility/buffs (btw move alrdy that “provocation” attribute to pelt class)
  • highlander for debuff/dps builds
  • pelt for tanky builds

This will work even with master class cleric because few builds like priest/monk/zealot and AA build doesnt need cleric tree.
With this change we will get some new solid builds and will solve that problem with choosing rank 2-3 classes at ranks 6-7 or even 9 (yes some players are forced to do it)

That doesn’t work, since this game does not have a Novice/jobless Class.

Your Class identity is bound to your backstory, and this is why you are forced to this specific Class.
Also,the first rank is basically the tutorial Rank, it is supposed to give you an overview about the controls and general gameplay of the whole tree.

The Rank 2 Classes are already so very specialized that it would not only cause confusion, but also lack impact when advancing to your first non-basic Class as you’re starting off pretty dull and then suddenly the game becomes pretty flashy (which is one of the charms of TOS).

Imagine how you play that boring Cleric and suddenly you get zombies and statue carving at Rank 3!
How cool is that for a new player!
If you can already start atypical, you’ll miss on a great amount of skills,too (Archer loses Swift Step, Swordsman Pain Barrier, Cleric Heal,Cure & Safety Zone… That already seems doomed)

Also, to argue from another point: we can be happy that we actually can advance from the base Class before reaching Rank 3 [they could’ve left out the choices for at least Rank 2,too, given how most other games work, they basically don’t let you advance/stray so fast].

By the way, we still don’t know how many Ranks are planned (at least 11 or 12 have already been announced/teased/stated/planned), but if we’d get 13 Ranks in total[with the current cap advancement speed of 30 levels, Rank 13 would be at ~ level 480, which is 20 levels short of the planned 500 levels],
we would be able to build
base Class C1 + at least 4 Classes at C3.

In the end, it all boils down to the fact that Rank updates happen too slowly and thus builds are pretty limited, especially since there’s not much space to have Rank 5/Rank6/Rank7 at C3 and some Rank 8 Class Circles in your build. The future will solve this problem, but I guess we’ll still have to wait some more time since the developers are still rebalancing Classes and reevaluating old content on the side.

Do you really think the playerbase is full of new players ? Most of people create smurfs for the bonuses given by the “New player event” thing. You’re not going to confuse players in a niche game.

Not a valid point at all. “We can criticize the game to improve it” > “We can be happy of what we have”.

It’s not what is addressed here, it’s about Rank1 being stuck to one class that is most of the time useless.

They will add new ranks but that doesnt solve problem while you will be able to finally get your low class on c3 other build get another slot for r8 class that are way stronger with skill factors and effect.

You dont lose anything because its your choose if u want pain barrier or not (other classes like wiz could use it more) also they will change how healing works with int/spr, safetyzone seems to be too strong and probably will be changed aswell, swiftstep? how cool thats only skill used from archer class its good but not necessary and at c1 is garbage not even attributes on it (still remember times when other archers blamed me for using low lv swiftstep overwriting their lv15 buff).

I could imagine playing boring class but now we skip 2 ranks because we can just autoatk everything and get to lv50 in no time

Game is confusing for most players and idk if anyone could not fail their builds w/o looking at guides/forum, as new player u dont know if you should advance starting class or get new one and with class choice at start with small guide and info it could be different… not everyone plan ahead they just get into game and play it (try imagine that) and whats problem starting with “cool class” like krivis, I wonder if there was anyone who got bored at rank1 and quit game because didnt like skills in their arsenal

In my opinion there is no reason to start game with class that doesnt work with every build

Yeah, but in life, everything is confusing. If you don’t ask&research what a certain job does, you could waste years of your life learning that specific job/studying for it and then discover that it is not what you expected/crap/boring/underpaid/etc.
New players can also try to ask people ingame instead of just running aimlessly around. This is what I’ve seen a lot in Ragnarok Online, although it was easier not to wreck your character in RO than in TOS.

How about setting a Rank 0 for the base Class and moving the Rank 2 Classes to Rank 1 while leaving the Rank 3 Classes at Rank 3?

That way you’d not lose a Rank for the base Class while still having it as an initial tutorial Rank, making the game start with Rank 1(after you advance from Rank 0 Class level 15 to Rank 1 Class level 1), which directly influences your ingame choice, but also leaves Rank 2 without further Class choices so people have one more Rank to either specialize in a prior-Rank 2 Class (e.g. Priest/Quarrel Shooter/Peltasta/Pyromancer) or continue to build up their base Class.

This change wouldn’t affect the ingame balance that much (at least much less than adding another Rank at the end) since you would only gain 1 more Rank for a C2/C3 Class in your build.

With this change, they could introduce the Master Circles for the 4 base Classes Archer/Cleric/Swordsman/Wizard at C3, so people who specialized in these base Classes can opt to add them at Rank 3 on top of their C3 or go for another Rank 2 or Rank 3 Class, which would create a more in-depth choice early on.

They should just re-evaluate the decision of having new classes each rank and introduce classes in tiers rather than having a couple new ones introduced each rank.

The tiers could be:

Low Rank 2-4, Mid rank 5-7, High rank 8-10…that way you could actually combine more circle3 classes together if you choose.

For example, currently we have

Rank 2: Priest, Krivis
Rank 3: Bokor, Dievdirbys
Rank 4: Sadhu, Paladin

How much more liberating would it be if all those new classes were instead offered starting rank 2? It would also simplify addition of new classes too since devs would only need to decide whether the class is considered low, mid, or high ranked.
