Large Battle Crashes, Bugs, and Issues

Date and Time : 2016/06/21 Numerous issues between midnight and 1AM US East (server time) when a large guild war took place.
Server Name: Klaipeda
Team Name, Character Name: Like 100 people; this affected everyone around.

Channel Crash

Bug Description : Channel 1 of Entrance to Kateen Forest crashed at midnight. Players were booted to the character select screen, where channel 1 was missing from the channel list.

Client Crashes

Screenshots / Video : https://www.twitch.tv/sutoraiku/v/73620188?t=2010s
Bug Description : During large-scale battles with many players, the game frequently suffers issues including hard freezes. The video shows an entire guild freezing at the same time. Their opponents suffered similar freezes and crashes repeatedly. Crashes happened in other large PvP battles earlier.

@ Spam

Screenshots / Video :

Bug Description : Players can spam normal chat with a large amount of "@ " text to cause other players to suffer extreme lag, temporary client freezes, and disconnections. They can use in-game macros (customizable in the emote window) to do a lot of this spamming at once.

Lying Down and Flopping

Screenshots / Video : https://u.pomf.is/lvksmi.webm
Bug Description : Part 1: A respawning player can be stuck on the ground, lying down as if dead, despite having full HP. Actions such as moving and casting spells are impossible, but pressing the sit key causes flopping. It was resolved by relogging. Time: 12:33AM.
Part 2: An enemy player’s guild tag wasn’t visible. It’s not clear whether this was a display error or if the player left and rejoined the guild during the battle.

Projectiles from Nowhere

Screenshots / Video : Sadly, the record video key was neglected, so this report will be pretty useless.
Bug Description : After changing channels, projectiles (they looked like magic missiles but came every few seconds without the usual cooldown) flew in from off the edge of the screen and hit a player. An enemy player was in the area, but was not initially visible, briefly appeared, shook in an unnatural way indicating client/server desynchronization, and disappeared. The projectiles continued hitting even though the player ran all over the map, and stopped after changing channels again.

Chat Room

Screenshots / Video : N/A
Bug Description : When a lot of players are using an in-game chat room by inviting everyone to the same whisper conversation, some players can’t see all the messages sent. In addition, messages may cause the chat room conversation to steal the main chat window focus even if it has been popped out into a separate window, which prevents watching both the chat room and normal/guild/party chat at the same time.

Framerates

Screenshots / Video :
Bug Description : Framerates become extremely low during battles with a large number of players, such as world boss fights and GvG.

Part 1: Loading in new players who arrive at the battle causes the client to temporarily freeze. In PvP it’s common for one side to group up and attack the other all at once, causing lengthy loading.
Solution: Allow the game to display placeholder models when it’s spending too much time loading, so the client can be responsive instead of locking up until all new models have been loaded.

Part 2: Player models are complex, and drawing many at once in addition to their spells causes low framerates.
Solution: Add a simplified models mode which activates when the framerate drops below a threshold. Background players and spells (not the player themselves and not the target they’re mousing over) can be drawn in a simpler, lower quality way to improve framerates. This would be an option in the settings window with a customizable threshold.

Invisible AoE

Screenshots / Video : They’re invisible.
Bug Description : Some AoE and deployment spells from enemies or non-partied allies are invisible when the graphics are set to low mode or auto mode. This includes very important things like enemy frost clouds which will kill you fast, and friendly heal tiles which you need to restore your HP.
Solution: Draw simple indicator boxes similar to the red boxes that warn you about boss attacks. The frost cloud would be a red circle and heal tiles would be green squares, drawn in the simplest possible way to maximize framerates.

Huge battles are a lot of fun despite all these issues. This is an MMORPG, after all, and the game would benefit greatly from being able to have smooth battles with lots of players. For example, a guild event where you do a dungeon with your entire guild would be great. It’s OK to sacrifice graphics quality during high-stress situations to make the game playable.
