Because you should use it for burst, that makes sense.
Spear lunge, cleave, high kick say otherwise.
Sure those are specific to 1 attack type, but they last much longer, and you can access them much earlier.
They only need to fix it so serpentine won’t stack with those, but no, let just cut it in half.
Problem with serpentine is that its animation is already 1.5 seconds, so if the debuff last 5 seconds, you only have 3.5 seconds to use it.

High Kick is 100% to Strike.
I dont think anyone should complain about that of all things tho.
Strike is woefully under-represented and only Pelt/Rodel/Murmillo make use of it. Paladin too I guess.
Monk and SR3 as well, also broom trap. The bottomline is that debuffs shouldn’t stack at all - only the highest one available at the time should apply.
You have 100%(High kick) + 100%(Slithering) + 50%(Headbutt) from your character alone - add in any Wizard class and that’s another 100% from Lethargy. A dragoon2? Yeah, another 100%. I could go on (Taoist, Falconer3, etc) but you see the point.

Those 3 skills last much longer, spear lunge 12s, cleave 15s, high kick 10s on 15s cooldown.
Overall the only thing those 3 lose to serpentine is the attack type.
The recent top 1 world boss dragoon is only there because he can stack spear lunge + serpentine. As long as they fix it so those debuffs don’t stack, it should be ok
The thing is, the class that can stack all of that for himself, Rodel C3/Murmillo, only has Murmillo’s skills that actually do high base damage. It’s not like Targe Smash or Shield Bash are suddenly the most OP things in the game, oh boy no.
Non-stacking debuffs would ruin quite a few swordie paths, even if it would be a justified nerf for the more broken ones on kToS now.
Hence why only serpentine being a target here is honestly quite understandable.
It honestly won’t matter if your base damage is high or not when the multiplier is that big - Murmillo particularly because it actually has buffs to skills as well as debuffs, which makes the whole thing multiplicative.
■■■■ Murmillo skills base damage when you have the helm and high guard buffing umbo/rim blow by +400% and 350% respectively (these 2 are additive with each other) and then make enemies take +250% damage (multiplicative with the aforementioned).
And even with all those multipliers, Murmillo is far from the most broken high damage class.
There’s a reason they targetted dragoon c2 specifically with this nerf, and even then it’s a duration nerf, not a damage nerf.

The reason being: everyone and their mother is dragoon c2 right now, because that doesn’t take ONE specific build to work.
Murmillo will most likely get hit as well once there’s enough pelt/rodes around.
