kToS and rank resets

There was a happening on ktos, where the rank reset packages were bugged(I believe they were fairly similar to the itos ones), and people could buy more than one. So recognising that this opportunity wouldn’t come often, some people decided to buy quite a few. IMC decided to suspend those accounts according to the number of extras they bought. Remember that these are untradeable, and not free. People were PAYING CASH for these extra ones; someone even went as far as to buy 9. They weren’t given their money back afaik, but the one that were used, could not be retrieved. There were obvious backlash towards IMC, it was mainly their mistake that allowed for this to happen and the players were getting punished for it.

Some people have commented that they should just release it to be purchable once per month or something like that. Which I think IMC probably has considered before saying nope(1/acc). From this little fiasco, I think it’s safe to say rank resets won’t be easy to get at least for a while. (That one from the adventure journal is NOT easy to get and youre limited to 1)

There was another suggestion to make the next week or so(it’s a week long holiday in Korea) free rank resets for everyone, so to make those exploited purchases redundant and to have some time to think about what is an appropriate response. Many of the people who bought one, were commenting “I should’ve bought and used 2”.

Do you think the rank resets should be more freely available? Would it allow for more interesting builds/satisfying game experience? Can it be considered pay2win if unlimited rank resets were available for TP? What is IMC gaining by limiting rank resets?

As much as I would love to buy about 3 rank resets for older/crappy characters of mine, I can absolutely see why they won’t make them so easily available. It kills the replayability and intrigue of making new classes. I have a warlock right now that I’m quite happy with, but if I could just fork out a few $ I could find out what all the other classes in the wizard tree are like, instead of looking up guides, planning builds and working hard to get characters there.

Rank Reset event when they release a big update (like incoming Character Rank update). One Rank Reset from Adventure Journal and one from Steam DLC, I think it’s enough. Remember they are going to make a new feature which allow you to reroll your last rank. It’s fairly enough as long as they don’t rework an entire class, or do some big updates.

They might do a rank reset event soon with all the changes they’re doing to classes and ranks, so we might just have to wait and see.

We don’t need Rank Resets for any time that is not a big update.

What we need is a test server where we can control all relevant variables.

hey it might be true. but shut the ■■■■ up. we got what you’re trying to say. i even said that once or twice. its done ok?

basically all you’re doing is ruining the mood. what u said has been said since the beginning 2 years ago, so try to say something new or stfu.

I don’t get why you are saying it over and over. It’s been said over the years already lol.I think we all know that and yet your still here typing in the TOS Forum so why repeat it?

The truth doesn’t hurt but someone repeating the same thing no matter the context get old fast and annoying for others.

If your sick of it then why are you still here?I suppose is either to trigger people like @WorldisMine,to hope that IMC here your rant or to make yourself feel better for letting it all out.

… … lol … ???

But hey you are right about something you got the right to voice your opinion —b,then again this thread is about Ktos and rank resets and not about QQ and whining towards IMC.

After re-balancing for all classes and R9 release and then once it is stable, I hope they will have free daily reset event like previous.

First, most importantly, it will attract back large population to check-in.
Second, the negative impact might be overrated.
Third, it is valid reason to do so with so many changes, and good for bug testing as well *cough cough.
Forth, I actually see no reason to create 10+ characters in this game.
We barely funded 1-2 characters to their max potential,
as good as keep creating new characters improve the dungeon queue cycle, but overall it is meaningless to do so.
*well except saalus run -.-

Stupidity hurts. Why do you need to shove your PoV that is completely irrelevant to the topic? Do you know how it looks like?

-Can I haz moar resets plz?
-Doesn’t matter cuz the gaem is ded lolz.

I didn’t have the rerolls in mind when writing this, good point.
but i guess it is…a little irrelevant when talking about the recent incident.
I just hope it’s one reroll per rank and not one reroll per character.

Also adventure journal reset is one per account from what I know, not character. so I think it’s not adding a lot to the reset availability.

well that’s the thing, people are reporting here and there that ninja-nerfs or bugs are happening with classes all the time, and these changes stay for quite a while. yet, we have no option of changing our classes available to us. it’s not like the players simply want a free reset. they were willing to pay. 9 reset package is a lot of money, and they guy used 5 before getting them removed from his account.

Classes are bound to get nerfed/buffed sooner or later depending on their performance.

Unless there is a total overhaul, i dont think players are entitled to a full reset.

Example:
Cleric “class” is doing 10% less damage with “that skill” <- fine
Peltesta is now a 2handed spear class <-reset please.

I personally think class reset should not be a thing, ive never supported minmaxing in any game.

I like classes for the concept and design, not picking a class for the most damage.

Keep in mind that a lot of classes depend on each other, so one skill change in one class could mean a whole different tree.
Let me take a recent example:
featherfoots have been ninja nerfed apparently, and players are reporting that their skill does HALF the damage it used to. and their lower tree is mostly support so that it can make use of the single target skills of ffs.

Is it still fine that they don’t get a reset even if this nerf will most likely stay until next major update?
I’m not asking for the game to always respond with rank resets. I’m wondering why having a reset available for purchase in the game is a such terrible thing. they can always limit it to some degree, like 1 per month or put a high price on it, or difficult quests as prerequisite for purchase.

Also, I personally am raising an ‘meta’ ff build just because I like the ff character concept and it is the best way to make ff skills shine, not to farm mats. So this isn’t simply an issue about min-maxing vs concept design players. There also exist character bound aspects such as titles, and dyes that are more important to people who like to role play more than min-max as well. Alts can’t replace those characters. Why is rank reset such a bad thing if you want to promote your class designs? Min-maxers will raise alts to min-max anyways.

The recent incident ? As I said this feature is irrelevant if they do major changes anyway.

@Euphe

For exemple I have a Krivis3 Pala3, I have a great combo with Aukuras and Restoration, even if Aukuras has a high CD. And I didn’t put any point in Zaibas, plus I’m playing with DEX CON. So let’s say they give all my points back for my 3 circles in Krivis, how am I supposed to have any synergy now Krivis is totally changed ? Total reset is fine as long as it is for major changes. I understand why people are against this kind of feature, but what can we do if the game changes so much every year ? I think I maybe rerolled more than 50 times, I’m very patient, but if devs did mistakes, it’s not my fault lol.

im just sadmad guis been ghostdeleted , but honestly the whole whats happening to ktos with their semilarge pop is none of our concern which is why i hate on these kinda threads. no offense i love this game as everyone else that stuck around since beta and release , im not a boogeyman i just want IMC to flourish maybe i word things wrong sometimes or come across koi salty but i really dont see an sisue here if free rank resets would be freely available abusive then anyone and their XXX would do it , so its fine they even GIVE us an option after 5 or 4 317 chars at grwoth 13 to fix goonbuilds i mean mistakes.

but what determines what is major? like you said they ‘buffed’ cleric and you were given the short end of the stick. But it doesn’t seem that likely that they will give a rank reset at all, nor is it fair to give all players rank resets.
so give rank resets to the krivis, oracles, and paladins? what about the people who want to switch into them?
they seem to be willing to change the lower rank classes willy nilly as well.

seeing as imc dislikes and is bad at providing rank resets, why not let the players decide when to take their rank resets? if they take it at the wrong time, its their own fault to some degree. If the rank reroll is their version of this, i think it’s a shoddy one, since your last rank is important only at certain points of the game; but we never know, they may just slow down the levelling process a lot.

Sure, what happened in their event doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen to us. But seeing as how almost all, if not all, of the major content(the class changes, stat changes, new ranks) is exactly being translated into itos, and since they are what rank resets are mostly for, I think what happens in there is relevant to our situation. Even all the event costumes and cash costumes have been the same, just in different events at different times, or different purchase methods.

The word itself determines what is major, such as the rework of Combat Calculation System, and so the new system of Character Rank which is also introducing Master Class, new classes and reworks for some classes. If you rework a class during one year patch after patch, it’s a major change for this class, but major change over time. I should have said major patch.

Although it can change, it is safe to say any changes to current rank 8 equivalent classes/skills(so including 2nd circles of r7 and 3rd circles of r6) are important. From the looks of it, not just major patches make rank resets relevant; ninja nerfs and bugs are really prevalent in this game. If they were responsibly promoting their class diversity and combinations, I think rank resets should be more available to us. If they stop being so prevalent, I would probably change my mind about resets.

Also nobody seems answer why having resets available is such a terrible thing. Irrelevant aspects/objects(if it is) exist in games all the time.

(optional read:
In another game called Dungeon Fighters Online, skills were being changed so frequently(around 4 times a year?) and permanently by the devs in balancing, that they kept their skills resets to be free at all times(skill paths were crucial to this game). I’m not asking for this amount of freedom; the two games have very different environments, I understand. But what if? Some would say that builds will all become the same if you do that. But I think if they are confident about their balancing, or if the classes have their distinct roles, they shouldn’t have a problem with doing it. In fact, I saw some people experimenting much more with non-meta builds than meta during the week or so of free rank resets, not necessarily to JUST min-max and define the meta(although most of them did try to min-max), but also to find out which classes had some hidden synergies that noone thought to put together. All it sounds like is that they’re not ready to show off their classes, but it is their main thing.)

For me, I don’t pick a class for the most damage. I don’t “minmax”. But, I do enjoy being comfortable with my character and that is impossible to find out until I actually pick a class and try it.

When I do pick a class and try it, what happens after I try it out and dislike it is that I end up not playing it anymore. So, I make a new variation on the build to try and make something more comfortable and something that fits my dream role-playing character.

Then, I get to R8 again and decide it’s not quite right. So I make a new character.

This continues over and over again until I ultimately lose interest in the game because all I’m doing is putting most of my effort and time into leveling and questing repeatedly from 0-290 instead of actually trying to enjoy the game.

550 Hours into the game and I still don’t have a level 330. My characters are not fun to play. It takes so much time to try out a new build, I think I might just give up and quit. That’s the mind set that I have and it may be the same mind set others have.

Having the freedom of choice in building a character is captivating. But when there are so many secret interactions and undisclosed information regarding skills and animations out there, the game becomes too hardcore without some kind of freedom to change the existing choices.

I believe the developer wants a hardcore game. But either his vision of a hardcore game isn’t being implemented correctly, or I am just not the kind of person that should be playing this game, like the tens of thousands of people who quit before me.

  • I am a paying founder who quit a few weeks after the game opened. I then came back shortly before rank reset event. I think I know exactly what I want from this game.
