Just a suggestion regarding the controls

yes we all know that we control the game using the keyboard like arrows to move the character and so on. And Wow really? the use of joystick really makes the setup like a pro…But why not give the players broad options??like adding the use of mouse to move the char and keyboard for shortcuts like any other MMO’s? Coz admit it, most players prefer using mouse controls than arrow keys

Please ??

Duede based on what i haved read.

"Character Controls refers to how Tree of Savior (TOS) game is played by a player. Many MMORPG requires the use of a mouse for almost all controls, however for TOS, the developers has decided to use the keyboard as the main controls of the character. Mouse is only used for engaging with NPC.

Gamepad support is still in testing phase and has not been finalized. While there’s no official gamepad support yet, the game’s developers mentioned the possibility of implementing it later on. However, using third party applications such as Joy2Key or Xpadder, you can bind the keyboard to your gamepad. A Xbox360 or DualShock controller will allow you to bind all basic keys as well as 16 of the 20 possible action bar hotkeys."

That’s old info, last I heard there will be an option to use the mouse for targeting/moving. That vid above is them testing the very thing you were asking about.

Q) I really liked the game pad compatibility, but targeting is still somewhat uncomfortable.

A) After CBT2, we came with an idea to attack and cancel attack with the mouse so our main programmer is working on the mouse control in such a long time.

▲ The mouse control that we are testing at the moment. It will be used with WASD.

And seems it already implemented in the Indoensian pre-launching event few days ago from what I heard.

WASD + Mouse aiming = OP
But I dont mind if the only keyboard control will be kept.
Only mouse control with keyboard only for skill selection is good to implement for touch screens devices and its becoming MOBA style (well and RO was like that).
so IMHO WASD + Mouse casting/canceling sounds great!

Cons for only mouse control is that you can play one handed what is becoming popular, but not so affective in HardCore gaming, good for casual.

WASD + Mouse Aiming - no more one handed , but more control. If one of your hands fall a sleep KO.

Damn @vykis, you left me behind =))

One of the biggest things I like about RO is it’s simplicity of controls. You can virtually play with one hand while holding a bottle of your favourite beer in the other. This is especially cool for boring low level hunting, when you have no need to use skills extensively or have only 2-3 skills which can be bind to additional mouse keys.

But to be honest, I’d like to try gamepad/keyboard controls too. “Lazy” controls allows you to multitask while playing, but if you have no such possibility it must improve gaming experience. Theoretically if your attention is focused on game it improves emotional bind to your character => more satisfying play. Any opinions?

I really hope I can set up my controller to have independent movement and targeting on the thumbsticks XD

I’m pretty sure you can move with just mouse too in that video. Notice how the character moves to the cursor direction.

finally.someone how understands the importance of mouse control…
Just like the old days

Just like the old days

and here is our primary problem

What’s the problem with that? Is mouse control that bad?

having multiple options are okay its the best route.

If IMC can have those brain Brain–computer interface the better even though i cant afford them.

its the ROfication that is the problem

@Erokhi I hadn’t played RO for many years but I DL’d a offline server recently just to have a look for old times sake. And OMG, that old school controls LOL, I don’t know how we got by in them old days XD.

Definitly some room for improvement in tge control department! I don’t have a problem with supporting a similar style of control in ToS for those who want it, but I can tell you right now. I can’t go back to that man. >.<

I’d prefer to walk with WASD-keys instead of arrow keys.

I’d prefer to have a “keybindings” tab under options over pretty much anything, any time of the day.
Seriously. I mean, I’ve got to put all those extra buttons gaming mice have to use, not to mention the keyboard.

If you are walking with WASD and all of your skills are hotkeyed on your keyboard, your hands are going to be really close together in an incredibly awkward position. Arrow keys or mouse makes the most sense.

But if you REALLY want to use WASD, I assume there will be a menu to change keybindings so you can easily change it from arrow keys to WASD.

hmm arrow keys are more disturbing (for me XD)
WSAD is better, while hot keys can be ctrl+ anykeys or alt + anykeys or even Lshift+anykeys…

key combinations is my kind of style than single click on keys @_@

You are absolutely right!
I didn’t think about that at all… the hotkeys…
How does it feel playing with the arrow keys?
