Job Reset Opinion

There’re many posts regarding job/circle reset. So I thought I should create another one.
I’m going to be serious this time (I usually don’t get serious).

Let’s start with pro and con of such feature. Please keep in mind that it may sound somewhat bias because I’m for it.

Pro:

  1. Save time:
    a. Players can enjoy playing different build without having to create a new character to enjoy a little change.
For example, you want to play a different circle for rank7 but keep the rest the same. It does not make sense to spend hundreds of hours doing the same quests over and over again.
    b. Players who mess up their build can fix it without having to redo everything or rage quit.

  2. Have good friend(s): When you come across some people who you enjoy playing the game with. They want to play with you too, however that group does not need your current build in the stack. Making a new character just to be with them might not work because the level differences.
For example, you met a cute girl in a dungeon and enjoyed playing together. Later you decide that you want to do quests and chill together. However, she’s a full squishy dps who need a full support and you’re playing a stupid Monk. Do you know how it would feel to miss that kind of opportunity?

  3. New player friendly: currently people mess up their builds because there’re not enough information in their native language. Mainly is because this game is fairly new.
So, let’s assume that all the information are out their regarding every single builds in the game.
We have to understand that many of mmorpg players are just kids who simply just want to play the game without having to do gamework(homework) before started playing.
They will end up leaving the game and we old players will no longer have younger players to chill with.
Can you imagine playing a game knowing that all the players are 30 years old overweight virgin? We’ll lose even more player and in the end the server will only be left with bots and bots will quit eventually.

  4. Better community: let’s say you mess up one of your circle and players you meet keep telling you that you’re stupid and such. If there’s a job/circle reset, there’ll be no more ■■■■■■■ in the server and everyone plays happily.

Con:

  1. Leveling abuse: as you all know, some class are harder to level than another. People will go yolo full dps build and then later reset into a full support if need be. It is true that this usually a problem in most of mmorpg but it’s somewhat different in this game.
Let’s me explain. We can all agree that priest full support class is hard to level up. However, that’s only true if it’s your first character. If you have a high level character you can simply send over stuffs from your main character and leveling has never been easier.
Yes, I’ve done it myself. Send your level 200 pets and some gears over to your priest and leveling has never been easier… Hell it’s way easier than leveling my main dps char -_-

  2. Everyone is the same: this isn’t really a big issue. Once player realize that his/her class is garbage he/she will end up with the mainstream build later on anyway, so why not just save time….
Why would you want someone with weak build in your party anyway?
The only time this can become an issue is pvp, but why would you want to fight against a weak char instead of an op char? What’s the fun in out classing instead of out skilling your opponent?

  3. Unfair to try hard young player: well, it’s true that it’s unfair to those who had to work hard making a character with a build that’s difficult to play. However, those players won’t really lose anything. They may have spent more time leveling up but they also get to enjoy the path which those who simply use reset would not understand.

In the end I believe that a job/circle reset will benefit more than it would hurt our game.

Everyone will benefit from it in one way or another.

I’m sad I don’t have more flags… more spam. If you really wanted to address the topic you would have used one of the like 5 topics we have already on this.

I think we should be able to drop ranks and level them from scratch, not just change to whatever class we want.

Gonna stop you right here because I am tired of seeing this as a “con” on all objective/neutral approach attempts to the topic.

This is not a con, or an exploit, or abuse. It’s a mainstay in MANY MMOs that sometimes it’s better to level as another build, while there are better refinements in the eventual endgame. There are many skills and abilities that lend itself to mobbing, or taking damage better, or EXP in many games which obvious soul purpose is to quest easier. Once at the level cap or end game, one switched to a build better suited to bossing or whatever their end game instance requires.

This is such a silly argument as a con, if anything it’s a pro, it makes leveling more fun for people. That can only be a good thing. It is absolutely fallacious to imply that because someone’s leveling wasn’t torturous enough that it’s an “exploit” or that it’s abuse

This is a pro.

Stop calling this a con.

A summary is a summary. What you wrote is simply an opinion. Flag yourself.

can we drop this already? It’s ■■■■■■■ stupid to keep beating the dead horse.

A class reset NEEDS to be in game because of major revamps/reworks and to allow theorycrafting, without a way to experiment with new builds safely, everyone will just use an already existing build and the posible theorycrafter population will be less than 5% of what it could’ve been, and the more people investigating and testing stuff, then the more we can learn about the skills that are poorly described and vagely explained in game.

the real thing is, HOW LIMITED and restrained it should be, that should be the discussion, not if there should or shouldn’t be one

Those cons arent really cons at all. That first one though isnt even thought out right. Being able to go back and choose a different class doesnt mean you can just use a class you didnt already level up. Example: i level up peltasta to max. I then switch to highlander. I then have to level it up to max too. But now that i leveled them both up, i can switch back and forth. Problem solved.

The people who dont want a way to reset have no argument. There are no cons to this system. It only benefits players, and prevents people from getting excluded because they have a bad build. This also heavily restricts player customization and profits, since people arent going to buy a skill reset potion to fix their already bad stats.

Ffxi was a very hardcore game, and they never gave you an option that couldnt be changed later on. Screwing up a character is a big reason people will not want to continue playing. It takes an awful lot of time to get a character to max, and seeing that be all for nothing is a huge turn off.

Of course an argument could be made for “you can just go and do research!” Which is also a stupid argument. You would still need to do research whether you can class change or not. Not only that, but there is no one place to go for all your needs. Or the info given is incomplete or just incorrect.

An mmo is like an investment. If your return on investment is not satisfactory, you wont continue to invest.

The idea that said concept is a con is also an opinion, hence not a summary.

Ok I’ve changed the topic to “Job Reset Opinion”

Hope you guys are happy now

Still a spam topic. There are at least four other threads going on about this.

and those games are all single-class games, and none of them actually have class resets either.
you can’t level up as an ez-melee Warrior, and then switch out to Priest.

what those games offer is the same as a skill reset potion here.

thankfully, no one is asking for such a thing.

Now that the idea is in my head i want to level as a ezmode rangers and job change to oracle. I also want to keep my job costumes to confuse other players.

Yep, how come people are asking for class resets when classes like Peltasta, Sapper, Chronomancer are classes and not sub-set skills of Swordsman, Archer and Wizard?

except they basically are.

in THIS game Priest is as different a class from Cleric /Dievdirbys /Plague Doctor /Druid /etc…as it is from Swordie /Archer /Wizard /etc… and as Shaman is from Hunter /Druid /Warrior /etc is in WoW. different “builds” in WoW, are simply alternate skill choices, ie, the same as a Skill Reset. this is true for most games that feature “multiple builds”.

games which feature “graduated classes” (level up in one class, then select a new class in the tree to branch to) usually do not feature any kind of class reset.

please, correct me if you’ve seen a lot of differences.

The best way to do this is to de-level someone to whatever circle they want to reset to without resetting quests. So if your 255 c7 and want to respec back to c2 you would go down to the level you got C2 around 17ish without the quests to help you level so you would have to grind all the way back up. The benefit would be keeping achievements and gear. The downside is obvious. There now we have a reset that doesn’t let someone level as ezmode and lets people who want to respec be able to without any advantage rerolling an alt and transferring gear wouldn’t give.

Edit i would never use this option as i hate grinding and use quests to minimize grinding but it would make it available lo.

c’mon people you can’t seriously be telling me that all classes on this game are different, if that was the case you could be wiz c3 > ranger c3 > templar

people, there’s not 54 classes in the game, it’s called marketing, they sell it as if there are so many to appeal to a lot of people, but the truth is, there’s 4 classes with 13 different options for each class…

Fewer people may have seen his ridiculously biased and frankly stupid rambling then though.

Well, since they have already marketed ToS as 50+ distinctively unique classes, why spoil what they already did and intended by introducing class reset and effectively reducing it to only 4 classes? :3
