JFC! Tokens does NOT equate to "Pay-to-win"

Sorry about this rant, but an increasing number of users are starting to sound like a broken record.

Ermergerd! Token users get the better stuff! This is becoming pay2win! I can’t pay for a token, but I have time to play the game! Toodaloo TOS!

Jesus. Loving. Christ!

Tip of the f’in day: You can buy token at AH sold by paying players (and they do just so you can play the game without spending a dime when F2P kicks in!)

So save up some silver, buy yourself a token at the AH if you can’t afford TP. You’ll be able to farm faster and get better stuff as your progress throughout the game anyways.

/rant

Why bother? Most people complaining are idiots that doesn’t even play the game past lvl 100. Everyone that does knows how easy it is to farm silver once you reach fedimian area. Even then, there’s hardly any p2w element on the changes of token. The only p2w thing is enchant scroll, which is already there from the get go, and you dont see these idiots whining.

I say let these fools quit the game, its only <50 players. Good riddance.

TIL the younger me back then was stupid.

That, or maybe this was before all those crazier AH and trade restrictions got implemented?

Token isn’t P2W but trans system IS.

Kind of a nonspecific thing to say but it kinda is, indirectly (buy token > sell on AH > earn silver). I agree though it wouldn’t have been like this if not for the current transcendence system.

I think they added that P2W in a ninja patch where they made it possible to sell TP items on the auction house. It wasn’t there since day 1 I believe.

the only thing close to P2W is the scrolls and thats more of a P2G2W (pay2gamble2win)

Virtually all mmorpgs are p2w. If a game has items that affect gameplay (i.e. items provide stats and in-game performance rather than purely cosmetics) and items or currencies are transferrable between players, it’s practically p2w. There’s no point complaining about it.

There is because there’s varying levels of P2W.

There’s the Nexon level of pay 2 win which is acceptable to korean gamers, and then there’s the North American levels of pay 2 win which is acceptable to NA audience.

Good examples of “pay 2 win” is guild wars 2. Back when I played in guild wars 2, there wasn’t much if ANY pay 2 win in that game, it was pretty much all cosmetics. There was indeed a system to convert $$ into gold, but you can’t buy power with it really.
So yea, but ofcourse guild wars 2 is buy 2 play but no biggie, most people have paid some money anyways which is basically buy 2 play already.

all the new player are spending thier silver on weapons and armor when they should be getting token asap

I wonder if that’s really a thing, because the market is locked for new players. Though…the newcomers event give 14 days of token benefits

I always thought this should’ve been a thing, event or not — remove the 1-week wait period and give new accounts a taste of an untradeable 7-day token when a char reaches a specific amount of adventure points or completed a long questline to a degree that botters would consider bothersome that they’d rather stick to the good ol’ grind.

I might still be missing something there though. Doesn’t solve the bot issue, but this at least removes the crappy restrictions which were supposed to counter bots yet consequently has been detrimental to new players instead.

Freebie is a good marketing strategy especially for a product that has become almost mandatory to get the full experience.

Totally agree. It’s either a cash grab or not. It’s a matter of whether the business model is good or horrible. I actually posted that since tos forums is plagued by kids calling every feature associated with micro transactions p2w.

The way I see it, a game is p2w in a destructive way is when you can buy end-game gears directly or exclusively from the store and when you can’t trade those items in between players. Rng-related (e.g. gacha, enchant scrolls, other enhancement items) also makes it fair for everybody. Imagine if the token is actually untradeable and the only way to get one is by directly buying it from the cash shop. Now that’s p2w.

cash grab. support mr kim
