It's time for a matador

Ok, so I’ve tried almost every class in the game. Now it’s time to build a matador, but seems like it’s not a very popular build.

I’m thinking something with highlander because I don’t have any characters with highlander anymore (doppel with barb3 now)

This is my attempted full STR matador build.

Its a good build, but I always viewed Mata as a crit/ Provocation class. So Pelt2/Pelt3 has always seem like a choice. So like Sw2->Pelt2->Cor3-Mata,Pelt3-Cor3-Mata2, Or A tanky Barb (Pelt3-Barb3-Matador) with Shield and Rapier. Matador seems like the “Off-Tank” class thats not here for damage, but for provocation uses to boost it’s crit to deal some damage.

Ideal stats would be Dex and Con imo

Thanks. I was beginning to think no one will be able to answer. This class really is unpopular huh…

I think @Pokart said the same thing in the official matador thread. Make matador specialize in provoking mobs instead of dps wannabe.

I’m ok with making my matador more focused on pelt and make it a mobbing build though. You mentioned a build with pelt3. Is pelt3 much better than pelt2? I’m thinking about following your pelt3-cors3-mata2.

IPelt3 just gives you better provocation and longer laster Guardian. Pelt2 gets perma Guardian. But pelt3 has to switch from dagger to shield to utilize it’s abilities. Not so much for pelt2.

If ANYTHING I think this would be decent.

You can max dagger impact then put one point in Quick if you want to use daggers.

Barbs will outdamage you due to Frenzy and Warcry, but you get the Aesthetic of the Pistol/Rapier!

Hm… Imo swordsman is either C1 or C3. C2 seems to be a bit of a waste. I’d rather throw in a barb1 in there.

Me seeing Matador C3 skill : :airplane:

I’m going on Retiari.

I would suggest you to drop Peltasta for 1 more circle of Highlander, or Sword2 cause Pain Barrier worth it.

You don’t really need Peltasta for aggro when you have Matador’s Capote and Corsair’s Jolly Roger. Sure, you can lure more monsters with Swash Buckling (note that this last one can be used with Dagger too, not only shield), but Capote will reduce their crit resist with attribute, and Matador is all about crit. Peltasta would really worth only for Guardian, and if that is the reason, then you should go for Peltasta2 for higher duration.

You also have to remember that Faena has an attribute that increases its damage by 50% if you are not wearing a shield, so Peltasta skills would be even more worthless, unless you only want to swap to provoke and stun (and the first one you can do with your dagger).

That being said, I have two builds to suggest you that have Corsair3 and Matador2:

Swordsman1 Highlander3 Corsair3 Matador2

This build is not mine, but is an interesting option with lots of damage skills to not run out of combos. Lots of skills with Highlander full circles, Corsair for farming and DPS purposes, then Matador for crits, provocation and damage.

Swordsman1 Peltasta2 Barbarian1 Corsair3 Matador2

This build is mine, I use this character for farming as I said. Rotation os not as good as Highlander3, but I chose this one to have extra defenses with Peltasta’s Guardian. Barbarian1 is to use Cleave for extra fast crit rate. As I said, damage rotation is compromised on this one, but I did for extra defenses and this cheap +50 crit rate (almost a lv7 Green Gem on a subweapon).

I know that Matador is not a top DPS class (Fencer3 Matador2 on Rank10 might be really interesting), but I personally wanted a character for farming and this Corsair3 Matador2 shows up very handy, cause I didn’t want that tedious Linker2 Thauma2 combination.

Loving it so far, but I am aware that Matador will not be a top damage class, cause he is supposed to give you crit rate. Speaking of criticals:

  • Ole lv10: +15% crit rate, +30% if you have the aggro
  • Capote: -50% crit resist from monsters (attribute)
  • Muleta: +10 crit rate per level when you successfully counter.

Thanks a bunch for such thorough info.

Hm… both builds are great it’s really hard for me to decide.

Full DEX I assume?

You mean :ox: 크크크크크크

Yes, but you can have 100 STR and some CON if you want

The reason I say a better Pelt because you do more damage to monsters targeting you at Mata2. And Jolly makes monsters target the flag, not you. And you wanna dish as much damage as possible while sustaining your tank abilities.

Plus Barb gives you a better chance to hold mobs with Warcry which extends both Swash and Capote. Also you receive high crit chance AND attack. Barb 2 also gives you that running buff that increases your HP recovery by Con. It’s a great addon for the tankiness Matador has.

Corsair isn’t a bad path either due to You buffinf archers, access to Hexen and Dust, and my fave, Quick and Dead. But you lose out on crit. Which I feel like is what makes this class along with it’s provocation.

I say 100 Con rest Dex.

The point of Matador seems to tank well and crit hard. If going Barb, you have a lot of crit rate increasing tools in your arsenal to help with that. So boost the damage with dex.

If going Corsair, I’d say 100 Dex rest STR You’d lack the crit abilities of a BarbMata, but You will have the ability to Farm, Deal nice damage and maintain provocation.

Theres also FencerMata, which will be the Meta where you just go pure dex or 100con/rest dex.

I think I will follow the sword-HL3-cors3-mata2. But instead of HL3, I will do HL2-barb to get the crit from cleave. Thanks all.
