the Early Access started on March 29th and was said to last a month… well it’s currently May 3rd… by saying a month it should have opened by either April 29th or 30th. but so i read they intended to open it in May… well we are 3 days into May… where is it?
May 10 if you read the dev blog. Could be delayed further I assume since they cant even handle telsiai’s population currently
It is in May, of 2059. Stay tuned folks.
no buying TP until then either. lol.
Reading is over powered. Try the announcements / news about the moved date.
Hopefully, it gets delayed again. Forever. If you haven’t paid to play already, chances are you’re just going to cause paying customers games to lag and have to compete with people who have no obvious plans to support the game itself.
PS: Imo.
As a paid player myself, this post is elitist and condescending. I understand people may have gripes with the ‘F2P horde’, but that in no way justifies unnecessary hostility, and is, quite frankly, plain rude.
Firstly, who are you to assume that a free player will not pay in the future? I know plenty of people who want to try out the game first before investing money into it. That sounds like a perfectly sensible thing that anyone would do.
Secondly, free players can contribute to the community in various ways aside from spending money on it. A huge part of the worth of a game comes from the value of the community, and just as there are trashy f2p players, there are just as many obnoxious p2p players as well.
Maybe you prefer b2p, and that’s all fine and dandy. But that’s not the point of this thread. No need to perpetuate that us vs them dichotomy even further.
While @scarethemonkeys was a bit rude, they are not wrong. They game should be delayed to the originally planned F2P date 3 months after the early access starts. The game is far from ready.
Okay I will admit I came off a bit trite there for my own reasoning. I find it downright saddening that 10$ (Cheaper at the time in other places) was/is to much to try out the game as you suggested. But I was also one of the people who voted for the 3 months 50$ thing. Which of course IMC caved and well, that led to the demise we have today and mostly negative reviews but that’s neither here nor there.
Anywho, responded because in part; you’re right. Personally, I’d prefer it to be sub based, but again; neither here nor there. In my many years of gaming I tend to shy from the F2P games for many obvious reasons, and countless times I’ve heard people say they never intended on buying anything or supporting the Devs. It’s just something to do. Which isn’t a problem until it IS a problem. Sever latency, lag, community, ect can all suffer miserably due to a F2P crowd.
Again, forgive my rudeness. The game has bigger issues then worrying about the F2P crowd atm.
Edit: Pretty much what @thebloodyaugust said.
yeah should be sub based or have to buy it imo we help this game thrive so i agree, just have sort of a free trial thing like FF xiv.
@scarethemonkeys @codybosrock1
i’ve said it plenty of other threads, and i mention it again here.
in studies that have been done, f2p typically makes more than what b2p brings in. Age of Conan literally doubled its income after the switch to f2p.
b2p: pay once, a fixed amount. maybe pay a monthly sub.
f2p: pay whenever, as much as you feel like. (some spend 10x the cost to buy a game monthly.) also usually has some sort of “premium service” (like tokens) which generally amounts to equivalent to a monthly sub.
Typically when a game is created (in this case I will use a Sub based game as an example) it needs investors and employees to run, work on said game. If the game is not meeting the needs of the investors it borrowed from and is unable to keep it’s employees well paid the game becomes F2P. (More so when said investors need to be paid back) Every developer knows that for short term F2P is the way to go, but in the long run it is extremely unhealthy for the game itself.
F2P games do bring in more income but it’s in burst. People will play, drop couple hundred bucks then quit a month or two later. So obviously that’s more money then the company would have made had it been B2P or Subbed. It’s a quick way to earn a buck, and it keeps the servers constantly fluctuating with new “spenders”. What does this do in the long run however? F2P and even B2P cannot afford to have large quality updates. They have to do much smaller based updates and the game suffers due to lack of new content. With that said; the investors hopefully got paid and the remaining employees are as well.
Where do I get this info? I’ve been a MMO gamer for many many years. Hell I played NWN on AoL, EQ and XI were my babies. But let’s take FFXIV for example. I was an Alhpa tester for that from Verion 1.0. Not the new more Theme Park one we have today. (Albeit I still play and have been now playing that game for what, 5-6 years?) If you know what I am talking about great! If you look up an Article with Yoshi, he talks about F2P games and why they’re bad for the actual game itself. Only Blizztard and Square Enix can afford to do what SE did. They did not have Investors, they funded it out of pocket therefore the game did not need to stay, F2P. (Also the game is doing quite, quite well a Sub based.)
Long story short or TLDR; F2P games are great for short burst of income. Updates and quality improvements fail over time as the burst goes away.
B2P isn’t much better in this regard, but is over all more healthy for the community.
Sub has the least amount of income, over a short period but the most stable in the long run. Updates are healthy and size-able. The community is a much better place.
i am not bashing on the f2p community so don’t pretend i am by tagging me in something. i’m simply stating my opinion. studies are great but that’s my opinion i would prefer it p2p it would mean less bots and less cheaters less people to try to take advantage of the system obviously it wouldn’t eliminate them but it would reduce them.
when did i ever say you were or weren’t bashing it?
i tagged you in case you found the information interesting.
meanwhile we -are- p2p right now. how’s that bot situation working out for you?
its alot less of a problem then it will be when its f2p thats how its working out
I am very disappointed with the company, I played the beta, I will not pay anything until it releases to everyone as promised.
