Is this game still worth trying, when it goes F2P?

I’m not sure if this would go here, or in the Help subforum, which seems more about technical issues than opinions.

Now, I’m sure a lot of the people on these forums are pretty committed to the game. I recall seeing posts a few weeks before the Founder’s Server went up, with people saying that ‘a bunch of noobs will come on, not wanting to wait for F2P, and complain’.

This said, I don’t have an issue with waiting for a decent amount of time, assuming the game is actually good. With people still complaining about paywalls over in the Steam reviews and a lack of multiple features (along with threads on the forums itself highlighting bugs, and general issues), is this game something really you would recommend somebody get into? This is, of course assuming one does not want to drop any money on it, which according to the Steam reviews is a near impossibility.

Now, I didn’t really play a lot of Ragnarok, and I recall that ToS was being talked about as being a near spiritual successor to Ragnarok Online, but with my lack of play in that game it’d be hard to say ‘if you liked Ragnarok, you’d like this’.

Finally, I’m sure somebody is going to say “why don’t you just wait until the 10th, and see for yourself?”, and while that’s a valid question, I still don’t really want to waste time on a game if it really has a lot of issues still ongoing, and has a lot of things restricted to people who don’t actually want to spend money.

Okay, so firstly, prepare to get a large mixture of biased opinions. My own will probably be considered as one.

Secondly, those steam reviews are mostly rage-reviews people made when the Founder’s Servers were brand new and chaos ensured during the first week. Usual start of MMO things honestly: Botched connections and bottlenecked login servers, bugs, and glitches abound. I’d guesstimate that majority of those complained about Trading being restricted, which were recently brought back in a clever manner. Most of them are irrelevant tbh. Some of them have valid opinions and complaints which may have been patched already.

Thirdly, I can’t say whether or not you’ll enjoy it. I have no clue what games you enjoyed, and how you say you were mostly a stranger to Ragnarok, you’re here for a brand new game rather than a trip down nostalgia avenue.

Is the game worth a try? Yes.
Are you obligated to love it when you try it? No.

The game really isn’t for everyone currently. It’s a niche game by design; it’ll either click for you or it won’t. And as per course of many MMORPGs, it has it’s fair share of bugs. However, the developers seem more responsive than most companies, but still retain a space of mystery.

what do you have to lose really? try it. play if you like, ditch if you dislike.

in spite of the reviews, negative or positive, once it’s f2p, if you have the patience, yes, this game is worth trying out. that depends on you though how long you’d be “trying out” because I think a few hours would be enough to get the gist of the gameplay. the enjoyment or despair would take a little longer though :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Personally I love the game. Enough to have spent 150$ on it and over 500+ hours in the wonderfully crafted world. However I do think it being F2p is going to hurt it badly. If you /don’t want to support something then you shouldn’t get to leech.

Well, given that it’s FREE to play at that point, I’m going with an obvious yes.

That said, this game doesn’t really appeal to casual gamers. IMC is all about bringing back traditional MMO values, and this game is no different. It’s a little grindy (though not until past level 200 if you know what you’re doing) and fairly complex.

Because I don’t want to waste my money on something I don’t think is good or not, I’m leeching off it?

The other responses are very reasonable and I appreciate those, but this just sounds downright toxic.

Well there will always be people complaining, even if the problems are been taken cared of, is our human nature, even more in the MMOs. The people that pay will feel superior to the ones that don’t, the old players will always say something about the new players, some of those new will complaing and ask for tons of things (discounts, less difficulty, more difficulty, global pvp! ban the ksers , ban more bots! No lag!, etc).

If the game is good or not, depends to you, if you like the MMOs in general I think you should give it a chance, if not, maybe there are other options out there for you.

Some of my friends also told me about the resemblance with RO, but, I think is all about the looks, the mechanics, stats and gameplay are way different. A lot of people came looking for another RO, and they got dissapointed.

Finally I’d say, wait for the F2P and see it for yourself, give it a chance, if you’re discouraged because of the problems, well, there is no perfect game out there, with the MMOs there will always be: Lag, Bots, Cheats, Bugs. I won’t say IMC is perfect, but they’ve shown a lot of commitment with this international project. Just give it a try, and if you don’t like it, well you’re not gonna lose anything.

Some people on this forums are elitists. They rage on you for playing for free on a F2P game(?), which is kind of stupid.

The game itself is fine, you see bugs once a while, but saying that it’s unplayable is very exaggerated. I think the way the game is being handled is somewhat questionable, the game already lost almost half of it’s population since the start of this month.

I like this game overall. I complained before because of the trading system but found out that you just need to sell as often as you can in the market and when someone buy something, you can just sell again. Its obviously better with a token though.

I like the quests and the mysteries in areas. I like the gameplay with the classes and have to think before choosing.

The only aspect I like less is that monster and boss killing is redondant and always feel the same, same strategy etc. Maybe I’m still too low level to experience more complex battle though.

didn’t try pvp yet. well did like 1 duel and issue was decided before even starting.
