Is this a viable diev/druid build?

Hi all,

New poster, who has been lurking around for a while absorbing information from this sub-forum. I’ve been reading a lot, but I never played in any of the betas so everything I’ve been theory crafting on could be complete bull, which is why feedback would be much welcomed!

So I was hoping for some feedback on the following build:

My goals for this build were to have some heals, some buffs (with emphasis on many damage mitigation skills), and be able to do decent damage on an INT stacked character.

If I’ve done my theorizing right, the biggest advantage of this build is the ability to cast Safety Zone, Ausrine, and Sterea Trofh with [few?] gaps in coverage. Do let me know if this is a horribly mistaken assumption!

Some lingering questions that I have for this build:

  1. Do statue buffs take up a buff spot for party members? (i.e. is the krivis daino skill something I’ll need to get a scroll for?)

  2. In terms of character progression, am I setting myself up for a bad time even though the end result seems fairly reasonable to me?

  3. Lack of better status ailment prevention skills probably means this build will probably not have a good time in pvp… But would it at least be fairly useful with GvG stuff? Since so many clerics seem to be aiming for plague doctor builds maybe having damage mitigation and some dps might be preferable?

  4. One big looming question is what the future of this kind of build would be in terms of an increase in rank cap. I read on one thread someone theorizing that perhaps one of the hidden classes (I think it was shepherd) might require druid c3? Does anyone know anything about possible future content that this build would be able to take advantage of?

  5. One complaint about/of Diev players seems to be that bosses and monsters can move out of the range of statues (and their long cool downs don’t really help that!) For people who have some actual experience, how big of an issue is this lack of mobility in both a single player pve setting as well as multiplayer pve as well as pvp settings?

Errata:

  • I put a point into Vakarine because I think it’ll be a useful convenience skill that will save me money/annoyance of forgetting teleport scrolls.

  • I also put a point into carve because I felt it’s better to have one more skill to break up the tedium of auto attacks.

I want to make a similar character, but I don’t know if i’ll go Krivis in rank 2 (for better level Up)) or Cleric 2 (for best cures in the endgame) xD

Hmm… from the research I’ve done, one annoying disadvantage of the build I’ve suggested is that I’ll probably have a really bad time with flying enemies. I think only the owls will be able to damage those enemy types… going Krivis rank 2 would give access to Zaibas which I think should also be able to hit flying enemies.

I’m unsure however about how frequently one encounters flying enemies in the game… and I personally wanted to lean more towards healing.

You will probably want more Carve if you’re going Druid. Plus increase chance of material drop.

I agonized over the decision to minimize points into carve for a really long time… but since I would be aiming for an INT build and because carve benefits from STR/[Dex?] it would kind of destroy the nice synergies of the other INT based skills…

In terms of getting logs, I heard they’re pretty cheap to buy from vendors…

Well, you will find many flying monsters after.

Carve is a good skill, because Druid can transform any monster in to plant type, and Carve have a bonus damage for them.

The skills you’ve chosen are pretty spot on. Wouldn’t change anything.

While that is true, I found myself not using Ausrine too often because of its weird mechanic (if you’re running around in circles you’re not attack or healing). You’ll probably end up cycling between Safety Zone and Sterea, which is sufficient. Ausrine will be a panic button when everything else is on cooldown.

No, they go in the second row meant for auras.[quote=“chronosanct, post:1, topic:153321”]

You’ll struggle against flying enemies since your only effective offence against them is Carve Owl, which has a very long cooldown. Other than that, I’d say not to expect Carnivory to work magic in the late game. While it looks amazing on paper, its hit count severely gimps it when you’re mobbing high HP targets. Its still great DPS for boss fights though.

You are correct that 5v5 PvP will be hell without Bloodletting. But honestly they’re probably going to nerf it. And in GvG you’ll have ample Plague Doctors around you.

Never heard of such a rumour. Your build will probably go well with any INT-based DPS classes in the future.[quote=“chronosanct, post:1, topic:153321”]

This is true, and is why Dievdirby shines the most during long boss fights or in situations when your party doesn’t move around too much (Earth Tower). Monsters should never move out of range as long as your tank stays close to the statues. It doesn’t matter for bosses since you can’t silence them anyway. A general advice would be to case Laima before anything else to decrease the CD of all your statues. For high level content you will usually have a Chronomancer with you, and Pass does wonders for your statues.

Unlikely only one hidden class has had such a requirement and it was received rather poorly by the community. I wouldn’t expect them to do that again.

Oh, which ‘hidden’ class was that? And by the community do you mean for the Korean version of the game?

Many many thanks for the detailed feedback. If you don’t mind, it sounds like you’ve played a very similar build? Did you, on the whole, find it pretty enjoyable? Or was it more of a slog that you wouldn’t want to repeat?

Looks great. I’m not big on Druids, but I can talk about Dievs.

Statue buffs don’t take up buffs slots.

Leveling does look painful. You aren’t going STR or DEX at all, right? Flying enemies will give you nightmares. I strongly recommend looking for a leveling/questing buddy (archer would be best since they kill flying extra well). Shouldn’t be too hard, as people like having a healer around.

You aren’t bad for PvP, just not as good as a Priest/PD. On the other hand, a party only needs ONE Priest/PD, and for a second cleric yours would actually be preferable.

No idea, but we’re talking rank NINE here. Maybe I’d worry about what’s coming in rank 8, but 9 is so far off (and the game will have changed so much by then) it’s not worth even considering IMO.

Yes, that happens and it’s annoying. I haven’t used statues it in PvP yet, but I’d imagine offensive statues are more for zoning people than actually killing or debuffing them.

Re: Vakarine
You also have divine might, so it’s basically level 2 and you can also take a friend.

Re: Carve
Worth it. Carve’s 5 fast hits are also nice for quest/mission objects that always take only 1 damage per hit.

Re: Skills
Again, can’t say much about Druid, but otherwise I approve of all your skill point allocation. Except maybe I’d max Divine Might at the expense of Safety Wall. Pretty sure Safety Wall has an attribute that adds up to 20 extra hits for Cleric c2, so those 4 extra hits you’d get from skill points aren’t terribly important.

I played Diev and Druid but not on the same character. To be precise, I played C1 Cleric -> C3 Priest -> C1 Krivis -> C1 Druid during iToS and C2 Cleric -> C1 Krivis -> C3 Diev -> PD in kToS. In the former build, I could auto attack flying mobs to death, but in the latter build, the only thing that saved me from flying mobs until PD was Zaibas. Not a huge fan of Druid anymore with PD/Kabbalist around.

Edit: Realised I didn’t actually answer the question. Yes both builds were enjoyable, as long as you can deal with flying mobs somehow. They appear very frequently. Zaibas made grinding as Diev slightly more bearable.

Carve Owl is crazy powerful vs clueless or CC-ed masses of people. Always gets me kills whenever I use it in PvP due to its fast hit rate. World Tree also wrecks groups of enemies, unless of course a PD is around.

Chaplin requires priest c3

While a very good rank/class selection it was negatively received that id required priest c3 as people believed it was rail roading builds and taking away from options/decisions. And they were right now anyone that takes priest 3 pretty much has to take Chaplin.

And by community i was referring to the members of the KToS thread so the international players that have been playing KToS while waiting.

Yeah it sounds like one of the huge weaknesses of this build is flying mobs… though since I wanted to go the healer/support route I’ll probably try to join up with leveling groups.

Does grouping up provide exp bonuses or is the exp split (i.e. will I have to be an exp leech when it comes to flying enemy heavy encounters?)

Oh… so I guess it’s pretty likely that future ‘hidden’ classes will not have such strict ranking progression requirements?

I’m totally going out on a limb at this point but does anyone know if it’ll be requiring an amalgamation of multiple sub-classes or if it will just be reduced to two circles of a class to unlock a hidden class? [I’m fully aware that there might not be an answer to this question at this point]

You get an exp bonus that increases according to the number of people in the party.

Chaplin requires Priest C3 and a quest completion

Shinobi Requires a Quest completion

runecaster Requires a Quest completion

Those are the hiddens we have currently.

Edit: Chaplin was the first hidden class the other 2 came after it. It is unlikely we will see circle requirements again but not impossible.

Ah, many thanks for the context. I’ve only been researching cleric stuff, so I didn’t know that other classes only had to do a quest. I was under the mistaken assumption that other classes also had strict progression requirements like Chaplin. Sounds like the build I want to try will be in good shape for future stuff, provided I don’t get mauled by birds and other flying things trying to get there haha.
