Is the game really that bad?

Hi ,I was decided to download the game but its closed to new players so I decided to wait and I have been around this forum for 4 days now. I have 4 friends that are going to download it, and we are not very hardcore mmo players,(usually we play 2-2 and a half hours/day).

The thing is, that we were waiting for this game to arrive, but when I enter this forum and read reviews from steam the opinions are always bad and the general impresion that gives is tht the game has a toxic community full of bots, a developmet team that doesnt care about anything and a total unbalance on the classes.

I wanna ask, is really that bad of a game?, I mean there is not one positive thing I have heard and I want to play the game, the classes system and skills seems superatractive to me and the artstyle and the story reminds me of the old rpgs I used to play, and the combat is not just stand in a point and use skills like in other mmos.

Because of this forum im starting to doubt my own opinion since I created it without actually playing it. I wanna ask is it worth to try?

When it goes open to new players.

Yes free will be worth it to try.

If you dont like it, that’s perfectly fine.

The best suggestion is find some active like minded players to play with once you can join.

You should try the game yourself when it’s once more open to new players and not let the opinions of other cloud your judgement. Since it’s free-to-play you have nothing to lose. Yes the game has numerous issues but it’s enjoyable (to me at the very least and I play as a swordsman!).

I would research what class builds you want to do before hand, along with skills and attributes so that you don’t get disappointed later on.

Correct.

They care, they are just unskilled and don’t really know what they’re doing but maybe they’ll get it right eventually!

You have NO idea lmao. Better do your homework before you start throwing those stat points and doing those job advancements because if you only have 2-2 and a half hours/day to play, remaking your character isn’t going to work for you.

Yes, me too. I’m making a paladin even though it’s trash because it’s fun for me. However doing non-cookie cutter builds will lead to player discrimination later on so be ready for that.

It’s fantastic. The art is half the reason I still play the game. It never stops looking beautiful to me.

Laswi FTW lol.

I like the combat’s hack 'n slash action style but due to balance issues and poor scaling, later on it starts to get tedious I feel.

This forum is full of shitposters and trolls. I would try to ignore most of the stuff you see here if it sounds like blatant crying… cuz it usually isn’t worth taking it seriously.

Despite all of the problems in this game I’m still enjoying it. Play with some friends and you can pick any classes you want free of discrimination from the players who prefer to whore meta game builds. (And there’s a lot of people who also don’t want to whore meta you can befriend too).

I have played game much worse than this. Destiny Year 1 (or at launch) for example. That’s 60$ plus $20 each for another 2 DLCs. The community was even more toxic than TOS because people can remain anonymous online, they can talk whatever they want, whether it’s true or not.

My advice, wait till the game is open to new players and judge it for yourself.

The game is bad.
However it is worth a try.

Sounds like a contradiction but basically the game is niche, for most people it will not please, for a smaller portion of people it will.
You might find you are part of that small demographic who will enjoy this game, so give it a shot, you never know this might be the game that you want to spend a significant amount of time on.

The game is very, very repetitive and while you often do the same thing for mmo’s in general the content of this game is capped and spread out amongst 280 levels which makes it feel more monotonous and there are more levels to come. I recommend you try it to 50 if you can and then consider if you’re willing to do the same thing for another 230+ (once rank 8 arrives) levels with increasing exp demands.

Content is continually being added and polished to the game but most players who experience Itos won’t see that change come unless they stick around for quite awhile.

The game is fairly casual from one perspective, but with the desire to continually progress it can be hard to enjoy it at a casual pace, and yet at a faster pace there really is a lack of things to do.

I can only add my perspective which is that the game is quite pleasing (for me) at a casual pace as a break from other games/hobbies/work I’m doing.
I don’t think the current state of the game is worth putting a large weekly investment in, but you might.

i think you will thoroughly enjoy the game… its just theres a few cookie cutter builds if you were trying to pvp… which is turning me off so hard. the pvp is a joke. they have no rules as far as pvp goes… atleast every other class but swordsman. they can throw you in the air for 10 seconds… no cap on cc… freeze you for 10seconds… just ridiculous stuff… so if you like melee… the melee class in the game for pvp is like… youre from the stone age… while they are shooting guns. im at lvl 233 doppel c2<… you cannot even avoid magic damage btw… no dodge no block no reflect… only 2 slots offer magic resist in truth and those are your bracelets… the pvp concept is a joke if you come from a game like league of legends. but all in all… if you guys are into non melee builds you are more than likely succeed in all plateaus of the game.

The forum is a lot worse then what you are going to see in game, plus everywere besides general discussion is better. The first time i looked in gd it made me consider not playing, but i’m glad i did. The gameplay has been really fun (though i’m only in the 90s) and i love grinding with the pretty art style and awesome bgm. There are problems but it’s gotten better and i do think the devs are trying. Only time will tell if the game will sink or float but it’s f2p so you might as well check it out when you can. If you decide to play i hope you have fun

This game really good 'til level 200.
And this game really bad afer 200.
Pve: grind.
Pvp: duels.

No content to play at max lvl at all.

Don’t listen to ANYONE here. This forums is a flaming cesspool of trolls, idiots, and autists. They only hate the game, and give no rationale behind any of their opinions. If you want an honest answer, go to the treeofsavior reddit. But, yes, the game is good, AND it is worth giving a try. time to get called a white knight ; ^ )

Overall, it’s a good game… But it gets me edgy when the ping rises to >500
It would lag your skills and 1HitKO normal attack will take like 3-4 attack movement before the damage is dealt; likewise in skill casting. Well, other than that, it’s a good game… At least I still am enjoying it.

Stop trying to intimidate the guy, people. It’s just a yes or no with a bit of essay writing >__>

No, the game isn’t really that bad. There are a few unusual restrictions and bugs hanging around, but their are perks like the art, the bgm, the exp curves, etc.

Y’know, there are actually also some really well written positive reviews on Steam.

But just to summarize the good things about ToS:

  • Amazing graphics
  • Amazing music
  • Really interesting and versatile class system
  • Developer really cares about the game (that’s really not the issue)
  • Weekly updates and Q&As
  • The game is fun to play, especially with a friend or four
  • The game offers content and rewards for both playstyles: Questing and grinding

Game has several things that still need to be worked on, but it’s still a good game.

I’m not sure why people are THAT bitter on these forums, but of course there are a few situations they could make you react that way, like when you get kicked out of party because your build is suboptimal. Or when you really want to try out that one mission/dungeon but don’t have four friends so you use the queue, but nothing happens even after 1 hour of waiting time because nobody does it because of bad XP/drops. Or when too high latency prevents you from properly playing the game because it slows down your attacks, keeps setting your position back or prevents you from using an elevator at all.

If you are close to the server, the server isn’t overpopulated (and not currently DDoS attacked) and you always play with friends, then the game is pretty good for you, though.

Especially the fact that you have exactly 4 friends makes this game almost perfect for you (because it’s designed around parties of 5 people). Try to stay close to each other’s level, though. Then you can rock all the missions and party quests together. (I wish I had 4 friends my level.)

Games alright if you’re into singleplayer RPGs.
