Is it me or was the window for keys a little too short?

I know there are maybe countless topics about people not receiving keys, but I want to vent my frustrations on how I feel on the window for beta keys being too short this time, especially compared to the first beta.

If you don’t care about my story you can skip the rest.

I’ve checked the site every week up until the very end of August where I found out my Mom was in the hospital. I didn’t receive the news till late. My mom was diagnosed with Cirrhosis and she’s had it for about 3 years. Since she didn’t stop drinking she couldn’t get a new liver. In the beginning of October. She stop responding and it seemed like she was no longer conscious. Doctors said she had 2 weeks to live, but we decided it was best to pull the plug. She was getting more swollen everyday and we didn’t want her to experience any pain. She died on Oct. 5th. Since we’re buddhist we under go a week long of mourning (house cleansing and etc). Another week went by and she was cremated on Oct 18th. And it was only until recently I decided to get back into my normal schedule.

This is just one but of many small examples on how short noticed and how small of a window the key give away really was. I know it’s just a game and that there will be more betas and a release and really, that I might just be complaining. But I can’t help but feel annoyed at how unfair the whole process played out.

Considering they allowed ANYONE to join the Beta this time instead of just registering for the lucky dip, 3 days was more than enough time.

I mean it is a closed beta still, you are not owed one at all. If there was any more time the number of testers would be way too much. Im sorry about what you have gone through, but they can’t plan for all these incidents in peoples lives. It was not meant to be a fair process it is closed beta.

Isn’t that kind of weird? If anyone can just get a key then why not just open the game? Why limit it to just 3 days? Why not just have a set amount instead? Why have unlimited keys givin out in just a few days? And then the earliest notice I can find is October 1st about how beta is coming soon yet there wasn’t a single word about it prior. Announcement for even just when they were giving keys out were extremely short. It’s almost as if they are basically trying to get people to check the site more frequently for more incoming traffic.

I am very sorry for your loss. My condolences go out to you and your family. The window was definitely very short, but over 150k+ people managed to get in, which was much more than IMC had expected. In the grand scheme of things, IMC probably wished it was even shorter so they would have gotten a number closer to what they were expecting.

First,I’m very sorry about your mother.Game aside,that’s a horrible thing to have to experience and deal with and I hope you have or will find peace.I’m also sorry this didn’t work out for you.

Second,they didn’t even expect the number of testers we DO have for this second beta,and we don’t entirely know how they’re handling the player load,so any bigger of a window and they may have had to make some more serious adjustments we wouldn’t have liked very much.So I think this is fine.

Just focus on recovery for yourself and other important things and before you know it,you’ll be seeing information about iCBT3 or iOBT.Don’t focus on what you missed,focus on what you can still be a part of.

Really sorry for your loss,and I hope you recover well.
That’s something really hard to go through I’m sure, and I hope you have all the support you need.

Although, 3 days is more than enough time in my opinion.
I think it just happened to be really bad timing for you and your personal issues.
It couldnt be helped.

Due to the fact that it is close beta. As they said, they are keeping to develop the game which means that the right now isn’t perfect/good enough to be released to the masses or go into OBT. You don’t want to be greeted with tons bugs and glitches during your first time logging in would you? Originally, the plan was to released 5000 beta keys along with the invitation of the first testers but they decided to changed it with 3 days of unlimited registration for some reason.

More players equals to more data, well considering that during the first iCBT, the numbers of reports and testers weren’t too satisfying. As far as I recall, first iCBT with 5000 keys were given but not even half made it into the game.

I don’t think you understand the purpose of a Beta test.
Let me tell you something they’ve said numerous times, they’re going to wipe everything, the game is not finished.

Now let me break down your argument and address them one by one.

There is a limited amount, that’s why there were several “waves” of keys being released, if you followed the announcements they’ve said that they had to ask steam for more keys.

And then the earliest notice I can find is October 1st about how beta is coming soon yet there wasn’t a single word about it prior.

So what, you had 3 days.

It’s almost as if they are basically trying to get people to check the site more frequently for more incoming traffic.

That argument is stupid, there are no ads so there is no reason for more traffic unless they wanted the server clogged and for the website to crash. Plus if that was what they wanted then they would have made an announcement on the specific time and day the keys would be released. That’s kind of the reason why people now are concerned about the game server being overloaded on launch. If they didn’t give us a day or a time I assure you the game server wouldn’t have as big of a problem as it will now.

It’s fair in my point of view.
Considering they update the news regarding iCBT 2 on late September/early october
by that time almost all of the community and mmo gaming related site already spread the news, and people would get ready for another race.
Well that’s what i assume anyway.

And yep with only 3 days deadline the appliance for iCBT 2 already over 150k. Imagine if it was longer.

Oh and sorry for your loss. Hope you and your remaining family still stay strong, man !

A little off topic but;
Again, I’m sorry for your loss and I truly hope you’re able to geta beta key somehow.
If not this time, then third ICBT for sure.
From what I found this community is very welcoming.
If you stay active on the forums, you’ll meet some great people and friends.
I’ll only speak for myself on this one, but I’d be more than willing to talk to you if you need a friend in general or for support <3.

Sorry for your loss , I understand how frustrating it is for sure. I only recently won a giveaway to be able to participate. But that set aside, I believe the fact that they didn’t have a limit to how many people were joining, I’d say a shorter time to register is a fair deal. Generosity from a company so early is going to show a lot of promise for not only the community , but the developers for future integration of the game.

Which is why I didn’t look at anything about it until now… It’s not like I’m going to just sit in my room and cry 24/7 for more weeks to come… Unless you have any ideas on things I can do?

i mean im not saying you should cry 24/7 i just this you should go through the grieving process. but thats just my opinion. grieve as u will. im sorry for your loss.
