Interacting with plants

There are a good number of quests in this game where you need to interact with a plant, either picking leaves, collecting dew, smelling them, whatever…

And they all seem to either house monsters in their roots, be aggressively sharp or poisonous or generally a pain in the ass.

This is completely unnecessary. The act of harvesting plants is boring enough without failing 4 out of 5 times for arbitrary reasons.

I don’t mind if you want to supplement the grind with quests. I really don’t. I welcome the odd quest to give me some back story, or side story or just some general interaction with the world… but for the love of God, cut out this nonsense where quest nodes arbitrarily fail to prolong the quest.

Thank you.

For sure +1. This is just something that is irritating, and doesn’t bring any fun factor to the game at all.

Agreed as well.

I think the plants and other things should have ‘handling instructions’, like a quiz, that tests if players know how to handle a plant. Only if they fail it should there be bad effects.

Having something bad happen randomly (more like 80% of the time) only makes a quest take longer time and less fun.

This sounds like a accurate description of real plants.

I personally think it would be even more boring if you succeeded 100% of the time. Since you can fail, you need to actually hang around the area where the plants spawn and kill some stuff rather than just mindlessly running from place to place clicking on stuff as fast as you can.

I just don’t think it makes sense that every plant you interact with can poison, cut, stun, sleep or freeze you. And I don’t mind if it’s not a 100% success rate, but right now the rate is all over the place. And it’s fine when you are in a zone by yourself, but if there are other people there trying to do the quest as well, and everyone is racing to every plant as soon as it spawns and everyone is failing 4 out of 5 tries it becomes very irksome.

I was doing a quest the other night where I had to interact with something 7 times. It took me more than 50 actual tries to complete the quest. I would literally rather kill 100 mobs than examine a node 50 times.

Even if it was something like a few guaranteed failures… Like the first time you try you prick yourself on a thorn, the second time you try an insect mob comes out, and then the third time you succeed that would be fine… but relatively high chance to fail for arbitrary reasons just isn’t fun.

and assuming the place or area is only consist of 1 channel with hundreds of players doing the same quest… OMFG the pain… :skull:

I agree, nothing makes things more annoying than having to rely on RNG. What’s fun about running back in forth in that corridor in Gytis Settlement trying to pick up a f***ing weed correctly? Imagine if I hadn’t been the only one there. Good grief.

There needs to be some other way of obtaining this stuff, a minigame or test of knowledge or SOMETHING. Anything but running in circles in Gateway of the King being stunned 50 times by a weed that confuses you.

But how many times are you going to be pricked by a thorn before you learn how to avoid it? Because our characters don’t ever seem to.
