Instead of grinding new characters, why not level up Colosseum Style?

Idea is simple.

firstly, there is a need for level restriction. an account must have at least a lvl 100 character in order for a new character to gain access to this Colosseum/Arena. And there is also a need for level restriction for how high a new character can level up to. Say maybe only up to lvl 50.

So once you have a lvl 100 character and you wish to play a new character but hate the idea of having to go through the same content, you can CHOOSE to skip that and go straight to the colosseum/arena. There are 2 game modes:

  1. fight against monsters
  2. fight against players

For 1), you will be pitting yourself against monsters. As you win, you gain exp cards. Each time you win, a new round begins and you will be fighting monsters that matches with your level. There is no end. You can keep leveling for as long as you are competent enough to do so…if you think you can that is. But only up to lvl 50. Gears will be provided but only of the lowest quality. so no cheating by being rich and buying powerful gears from the marketplace and using them in the colosseum/arena.

For 2), you can go against another player who is the same level as you OR join up with other players to compete with another group. winner takes the exp card and exp cards earn here will be way more than in 1).

Once your new character hits lvl 50, back into the world of TOS you go.

Seriously…we all want to play all these classes and builds. But its extremely time consuming and it will be good to find a good way to cut short this process without breaking the game at all.

You’d have to go back to do the main questline anyways.

Sounds neat. But tbh I don’t mind the grinding.

@pudimowned. at the very least, that’s about it. But having to kill monsters for exp and doing quests for exp card can be an extremely mundane chore and further discourages players from playing new characters to try out builds and classes. Maybe 4 times is okay. but 10, 20, 50 times…haha. i might as well play on a private server if i really want to do that, and if there is a good private server first. So its nice and neat (like what @Achera said) to have an option, another way, to level up fast.

just to add more details to the idea…

UPDATE: 15th JULY 2016

It shall be called ‘Colosseum’ instead of ‘Arena’.

  • Account Restriction
An item called the ‘Colosseum Pass’ is required to gain access into the Colosseum. Only a character that is at least lvl 100 can talk to a NPC to get a quest to register the team’s name. After that, only a character that is below lvl 50 can obtain the pass. it cannot be auction, cannot be traded.

  • Level-ing Restriction
You will only be able to level up a new character all the way to level 50. The Colosseum is meant for that very purpose. If you are able to win endlessly without a single loss, you will be able to reach lvl 50 in less than 3 hours. Average would be 6 hours.

  • Preparation Phase
Once the pass has been obtained, you may proceed into the Colosseum. There will be 3 game modes but before any game begins, there is the Preparation Phase:

Gearing up

You will have 1min to gear up with the available gears provided. They are of the lowest grade. HOWEVER, there is a penalty for each round won. if you equip the following:

2 armor pieces = -1 exp card, 4 armor pieces = -2 exp card
1 weapon = -2 exp card
1 shield = -1 exp card
2 rings = -1 exp card
no gear = +2 exp card
Wearing 1 armor piece (chest, pants, gloves or boots), 1 ring and 1 necklace = no -/+ exp card.

Level Selection

You can choose to fight monsters/bosses that are higher level than your level, which will cap at a difference of 5 lvls. Monsters/Bosses will be randomize. Either you are lucky to get one who is only 1 lvl above your level or one who is 5 lvls above your level. +3 exp card for each round won.

  • Game Mode: You vs Monsters
You will be fighting against monsters that are around the same level as you. They will be random. So count on your luck if you happened to get easy ones to kill. if you win, you will be rewarded with exp card. you can then choose to proceed to the next round or head back to the Preparation Phase. if you lose, no exp cards. you can then choose to repeat or head back to the Preparation Phase.

  • Game Mode: You vs Bosses
Bosses here will be slightly more difficult than the quest bosses that we usually fight against. They will be faster in terms of responsiveness (less time doing nothing. immediately after they attack, they begin their next attack). That’s the only difference from a quest boss. However, the rewards here are greater than vs monsters. you will be rewarded with more exp cards AND there is a exp card multiplier of x2 to the exp cards obtained from no gears and level selection. a total of additional +10 exp cards will be rewarded upon winning.

  • Game Mode: You vs Players
You can choose to fight against another player, 1vs1, that will be around your level (give and minus 3 levels), or fight in a group against another group, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5. Upon winning or losing, exp cards will be rewarded. Of course, winners will be rewarded more exp cards. winners will be rewarded with more exp cards than fighting against monsters but less than fighting against bosses. losers will be rewarded with exp cards that are lesser than fighting against monsters. This mode is more for fun and playing with other people.

  • Leveling New Characters Restriction
Once your new character reaches lvl 50, that character is forbidden from entering the Colosseum. The pass will expire and be consumed. If you wish to level up another new character to lvl 50, there will be a quest from the NPC to get another Colosseum Pass. This quest requires you to get 5-10 said drops from said monsters throughout the lands of TOS (only up to lvl45 areas). Rare drops not included. Only common drops. You can buy from the market if available. Upon obtaining all drops requested, the NPC will then take 3 of each drops + 5000 silver. After that, create your new character again to obtain the pass. This quest is a quest concerning the economy of TOS and it is expensive to maintain the Colosseum.

However, TOKEN USERS NEED NOT DO THIS QUEST! :sunglasses: Talk to the NPC and choose the “I am a Token User/Holder” option. You will then be able to start leveling your new character again immediately after that.

Notes

You are free to leave the Colosseum anytime while under lvl 50. so that you may do your Class Advancements. Upon leaving, all Colosseum gears will be returned and you will be able to equip your own gears.

Leveling up Colosseum Style allows players to not only quickly level up but to also familiarize themselves with all the skills of said classes.

If the max level now is 280 and its going to be 600 in the future and there are so many classes that we want to play with, its going to be tiresome and extremely grinding to play through the same content and then to level up that character all the way to 600…again. This is to help cut short the process, at least in the early stages, allowing old/experienced players to quickly get to the stage of enjoying said classes and their skills. As well as to remove the strong discouragement of going through the same gameplay experience 10, 20, 50 over times.

This Colosseum Style may be further improved to allow players to level up new characters to 100/200. But it of course has higher requirements such as a level 300/600 character.

the moment you typed "the early level map is for new player to get used to the game. ", you have clearly told everyone you didn’t read. it requires at least a lvl 100 character for every new account, to gain access to the colosseum.

obviously an experienced player doesn’t need to go through all the lv1-50 contents 50 over times again and again just so he/she can play with different classes and builds. and an experienced player doesn’t need getting used to the game. the colosseum is mainly for that purpose. Otherwise, majority of us will be playing 1-4 characters only. its too much time and effort to play 10, 20, 50 over characters and leveling them to get all 7-8 ranks.

Also, its an option. an additional feature. its not a must. nobody likes it, then he/she can just carry on the same adventure in TOS. afterall, there are benefits from doing that as one can get materials and rare items. But a player who isn’t interested in any of that but is interested in playing different classes and builds, yea…this is the main point.

With this idea, we can see some weird and wanky, funny and cool builds of different classes. Right now, all of us are probably taking our classes and build VERY seriously and playing them as properly as we can, down to the point of investing every single skill and stat points carefully. We want to break away from that if we can and simply enjoy playing around with classes and all sorts of builds.

Not only that. With this idea, people won’t be creating new accounts. Because by doing so, he/she will need to level up the 1st character for that account all the way to lvl 100 again. AND in the future when we can lvl up to 600, the leveling restriction can move higher to 200 in the colossuem instead of 50. This will further discourage players from creating new accounts and strongly encourage players to buy character slots instead. This in turn will help to improve business for IMC. its a win win situation.

its a start. an idea has to start somewhere and its definitely from a person. maybe someone here already suggested about it before but it was well thought out enough or didn’t really catch the interest of any of the staff from IMC, etc, etc.

So yea…i too agree that they should get all the fixing done first AND also all the patching and updates for all class skills. And then we can talk about new features. because its not urgent. its just something in the long run, in the future. lvl 600 is gonna take a long time before we see it since we are at lv 280 now.

haha…if maplestory and ragnarok online can last more than 5 or rather 10 years…why not?

But some of these things can be difficult to implement if they start later. difficult to explain. something to do with coding and database, etc. And since now they got this Arena, they can simply re-skin it, make it look like a colosseum, etc.

so yeap…

As for questing and maps helping you to understand your skill and choices a lot, actually…there is A LOT MORE to it than just questing and exploring maps.

GVG? PVP? Earth Tower? maps at lvl 100-200? maps at lvl 200-280?

All of the above can easily influence the choices you make regarding your skills and stats. seriously. its a game that its difficult to be perfect. And who knows what other stuff we have to be bothered enough in the future? the above are definitely not all of it. There’s bound to be more. easily.

The colosseum will involve primarily only fighting. So with that alone, it is enough to understand how the skill works, why you should invest in it, etc. Frankly speaking, playing the game alone isn’t enough to understand the skills. every experienced TOS player will tell you that you will have to research up on skills for every class on the forums. Because of hidden mechanics or some combo like Deprotected Zone + Hand Knife. Questing and map exploration doesn;'t really help out a lot.

The colosseum doesn’t help to level up a new character instantly or in less than an hour. no. it will be about roughly average in a day or 2 if need be. whatever i have suggested can be subject to change to make it fit. of course my suggestions aren’t perfect. without any fighting, might as well create an item to instantly level up a new char to lvl 50. why bother fighting to get exp cards to level up? Its the main reason why there’s fighting in the colosseum.

i actually typed all these already. if you just read, i wont have to type again.

even opinions must be properly constructed to be considered worthy enough of an opinion (with reasons and logic). otherwise its nonsense right? haha…so yea, i did acknowledge and respond to what you said about questing and maps, about how they contribute to your choices for skills. would it better if i did not talk about what you said?

If you or anybody else feel that its redundant, the only reasons why i can think of are because either you guys enjoy the early content a lot (the art, the music, etc) and it doesn’t bore you even if you play it 10 times, 20 times, 50 times over. Most of us can bear with that 1-4 times, and a handful who can do twice of that amount.

But there’s a lot of fun to be had by playing different classes and builds. if there aint gonna be a fast enough way and you want to play those classes and builds, well all the best with the amount of time and effort you have to put in.

One thing for sure is…not all of us are extremely knowledgeable in how to grind to quickly gain levels. yes it is possible to hit lvl 50 in less than a day. But what about lvl 100 and 200? at the same time, if all of us were extremely knowledgeable, there will be competition and probably half of us will be left running around looking for places&monsters to grind.

it will be great to know what the majority feel and thinks. if the playerbase of today says its too time consuming and there’s so much content they wish they can enjoy but so little time…something must be done. of course, IMC has to make money in return.

If there is a better idea, that would be great. but currently. only EXP Tomes and tokens help players to quickly level. it helps to level quickly to lv50. but 100 and 200…not really. Then again, no urgency here. since i think most of us are still happily playing with our current characters and lvling them to 280.
