the solution would be simple

OPTION 1)
a) rename/rework all the white/blue + few of those pathetic/garbage purple swords into short swords that can be used by all classes
b) all remaining purple and orange sword would be limited just for swordsman and [that new rank8 class that will use sword but I forgot it’s name not to mention it will probably 100x better than all Swordsman builds based on using swords] + add low/medium level sword weapons that can be used only by Swordies

OPTION 2)
a) give sword additional effects that are active only when Swordsman class is using those swords. Cleric, Archer and Mages would see those options grayed/crossed
b) give Swordsman (the Rank1 class) class attribute called “Blademaster”. All 1handed (or both 1h and 2h) sword weapons have their damage increased by 30%. Swordsman deals x% more damage to medium and large targets (more to medium less to large in contrast to spears). All Swordsman attacks ignore 30% of enemy critical resistance OR Swordsman critical chance is increased by 30% when using swords

with this IMC will be able to finally rework all swords so they can be as strong and usefull as spears.
Make few 1h good option for
tanks: less damage but more armor, magic resists, block, knockdown resistance, more threat generation, etc
dps: more STR and/or DEX, crit chance& crit damage (together not separate just it’s now… bunch of swords giving crit dmg when you have no option to increase crit chance because of lack of crit based selfbuffs), evasion, bleed, etc

add to this some class attributes for barbarian, corsair and doppel + critical (finestra copy) buff for barb and we are good

that’s the bad bad bad way of thinking

tell me now why someone would want SM DPS in ET tower when it’s dealing half dps of archer/wizard class? Tank DPS may find room for ET because of taunt/tanking all ■■■■ but what’s the use of weak all melee DPS that can’t burst all ■■■■ fast enough?

to survive you need to kill fast not endure getting kicked/punched/slashed more times than usual while tickling enemies

Due to animation lock, both before and after the skill is used, skilled opponents will be able to read and react to a swordsman class’ moves.

The only exception might be ones where you can charge while moving (e.g. earthwave), but then again upon casting you get locked into place for a second or less. Even double slash, which is supposed to be usable while moving, locks you in place unless you jump-move while executing it.

I believe the strength of the swordsman class is being able to close in fast (if he survives - this why we have pain barrier at core) and then execute a stun/kd/dps combo (which would require decent player skills). The only class in the tree nearest to being able to do this is no surprise cata3, and even that still suffers from the animation locks except for rush.

Nah i just don’t like the idea of people who makes alibis and some sort when he/she can just tell us directly what he/she wants to say.

To put it simply,what this guy wants to tell us is to scrap this idea, because this suggestion is meant to aid our dps viability and also scrap the whole dps idea of swords altogether and just make swordsmen all tanks…

anyways i’ll just pretend that im stupid and not butthurt at what he said because i aint as selfish as he is :thinking:

I didn’t “go straight to the point” because that’s not what i was saying at all. “One way to buff SW would be to improve survivability” does not equal “SWs should only be meatshields”.

Also, i didn’t call them retards.

thats why i’m sugesting other solutions…

So much yes. I would also love the mechanic of fighting certain bosses where everyone or at least the tankier characters need to mount bosses kicking them, stabbing them in order to take off their invulnerability.

it’s not going to happen… 15 years and devs never learned how to balance and make melee viable.

Probably a pserv with high rate so speak about “balancing game” have no sense in my opinion.

Ragnarok online (before the renewal, idk after) was nice about balance between ranged/melee/magic ! :slight_smile:

With R8 cleric, i’m little bit afraid about my swordy… just wait more details about our futures skill and the next ktos patch ( and fix bug, hack, exploit, etc.)
